Very nice! thanks.
A few requests:
Les Claypool, Primus, TOOL, black sabbath, kid koala, the black keys, re hot chili peppers, gy!be, fugazi, and oh maan so many more. I'll wait till you release more packs for a full request
These look really good and I'll be patiently waiting for more! Janis Joplin in particular looks REALLY nice.
Where did you get the source images from?

Awesome pics! My favorites are Beatles, Eminem, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, ozzy, Pfunk, Radiohead, The Doors, the who and White Stripes. Excellent quality! Thanks for taking the effort to share these.
One little Photoshop tip I've noticed that I figured I should share. If you're dealing with a black and white image, you can save some file space by selecting Image -> Mode -> Grayscale. This will discard any color information and make the file smaller when you save it. With XBMC on Xbox or AppleTV, we need to save all the memory we can ;)
Good work, thanks again!

I will have all the bands listed in the next pack.
TOOL, however, is rather difficult to come by high-rez images of. Maynard was quite the shy fellow until the advent of the APC era.
The source images are all from Google Images. Just type in the band-name and select "Extra-large images". :D
So if you have some massive list of band requests...do share them now. The biggest problem I have in making these is not finding the images...but thinking of bands to use.
@Sartori, thanks for the tip. I'll make sure to do that in the future.

I found a nice SD image for tool (good enough for me) here (http://www.neo2k.cmace.de/downloads/wallpaper/tool_wallpaper_1%20tool-band.de%20.jpg)
I'll compile a master list for you soon :)
Did meligrove.com ever get music fanart hosting off the ground? If so you should definitely upload there!

I found something a little better for tool...depending on your preference.

All the other bands requested are also done and in the second pack...I've got 30/50 done thus far. :D
Suggestions...keep em coming.

Thanks for all the great fanart. Lots of good stuff in there. Just so you know, you have the Dropkick Murphys labeled as Flogging Molly. Similar styles of music though so I could see how that might happen ;) Cheers.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm a fan of both bands, but have never seen pics of them...will fix in a day or so.
Any requests?

No worries ;) They are two of my favorites too. Only reason I noticed is I have seen them both live quite a few times. I will go through my albums and see if I have any bands that I really need fanart for. Thanks again.
how do you use music fanart in mediastream?

digitalhigh, more awesome work with the second pack! Another tip, though (don't you hate people who think they know it all?). Some of those B&W pics are a bit contrasty. A feature I probably overuse in Photoshop is Shift-Ctrl-Alt-L (Auto Contrast) and Shift-Ctrl-L (Auto Levels). I fact, I have a habit of opening pics, doing Auto Contrast and then Auto Levels. About half the time, I don't like what Auto Levels has done, so I undo it in History. It's quick to do and can make a huge difference. Also, for some of the fuzzy pics, you could try Filter -> Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask. I keep Radius at 1.0 pixels and Threshold at 0 levels. Depending on how much sharpening is needed, I tend to be either 20%, 40% or 60% on Amount. Oversharpening looks bad, but a little can make a big difference on an HDTV.
I love the work you're doing and I don't mean these tips to criticize! Please, feel free to ignore them! Hell, you can even insult me if you want! ;)
Thanks again, good work.

How dare you come into my thread and insult my work! I spend hours doing this stuff, and all you have to say is...
Just kidding. :D
No, actually, thank you for the pointer. I use photoshop a lot, but don't take the time to play with any of the automated stuff or the newer features. I still do touch up work with just the clone stamp tool and the pencil, and I adjust all the brightness/contrast/saturation stuff by hand.
The problem is that I have a three-monitor setup, and the levels aren't matched just right. I try to check them across all three screens, but sometimes it's hard to tell what will look best on all screens.
So any advice is more than welcome. Have you re-adjusted the levels of the ones that needed it? If so...send em my way and I'll re-add them to the pack. Or I can do it...whatever works.
And I see what you mean about the unsharpen mask. That seems to create the kind of textures you see in higher resolution images, where up close it's spotty, and at normal rez it looks incredibly crispy. Hmmm...now I've got much playing to do.
Thanks again. ;)
Nice work on the packs, quite a few bands that I like
thanks :)

I know I'm gonna get slammed hard for this........but, I do have a wife. I would rather be slammed verbally on here, than in real life by her. LOL
Could you release some country music FanArt? Like Hank Williams Jr, Charlie Daniels Band, Bellamy Bros., Taylor Swift......Some others too?

I don't know about getting slammed...now if you'd included Big and Rich in that list...
:D
I can whip up some country ones. I'm a bigger fan of the old-school country music, so if you want any other specific artist...list em.
In fact...just give me of bands to do. Anything you listen to. Just start rattling off bands. And this goes for everybody...just throw em out there.
Please. ;)

rage against the machine, mars volta, pink floyd, jimi hendrix, offspring, goldfinger, dr. dre, ice cube, big pun, eminem....all good stuff :) I think you might have already found some stuff for a couple of those but i'm just tossing out there what I think of.
Also, I think it would be nice to have more images with actual music or instruments in the picture, rather than just a picture of a band (most of which most probably won't recognize) standing on a street corner or whatever). So, you know, people playing music, concerts, jam sessions, even just random pictures of instruments. Even a few pictures of classical instruments or pictures of orchestras or something like that might not hurt. Anyway, just ideas!

I've saved your list, and will begin tackling it immediately.
rage against the machine, mars volta, pink floyd, jimi hendrix, offspring, goldfinger, dr. dre, ice cube, big pun, eminem....
I've got everything in that list except for goldfinger, dre, cube, and pun. Those are added to the "to do" list.
I can do some generic ones after the list of bands I've been presented. I'm guessing that in the future, band-specific fanart will get implemented, but in the meanwhile, generic shots are a good idea.
And as far as the generic shots of the band...I think that when Meligrove still existed, the specs for music said something about pics of just the band if possible. I've just kinda had that in the back of my mind while doing these...
Regardless, I've got a bit to work on now. Any more bands you guys can come up with are more than welcome. :D

This wouldn't have anything to do with someone trying to develop a scraper for music fanart, would it?? ;)

well no, I mainly use XBMC for TV Shows and Music, so not sure how it works for movies.
I seen screenshots of people having fanart for music, just not sure how.
digitalhigh
2009-01-05, 17:24
Well, for Aeon, you just point the skin to a folder where you have all your music fanart stored together. When you're browsing music, it'll just display those images at random in the background. The screenshots you see where the fanart matches the album/artist shown is most likely a mock-up. AFAIK, xbmc does not yet support contextual fanart. That feature is slated for sometime in the not-so-distant future.
So, getting the backdrop to match the artist for music...doesn't work yet.

P.P.S. I am a little worried about htbackdrops.com as the admin hasn't approved any fanart since Nov 10, 2008.

Yeah, I was getting the same feeling about HTbackdrops. This was right after I uploaded this entire pack over there for scraping purposes, then one of the devs told me that they weren't sure if they could use HTbackdrops as it doesn't have the proper API.
Either way, that's just one more thing for me to do now. Having XBMC is like having a kid...you're always trying to keep up with it and never even get close. :D

It's great that you health is better mate and thanks for approving those fanarts. DH even if it isn't possible to scrape from htbackdrops.com it's still a good place to keep them all together.

Hi there,
I can help to create an online database + api for the fanart.
I created for the Vista Media Center a little Plugin to listen to internet radio (www.mcetools.de). I fetch all kinds of information for the currently played artist.
I recently extend the functionality to be also available for the normal (offline) music library. I want to provide my users the fanart if they are listening to an artist.
So we can help eachother. I would like to hear from you If there is any interest.
Cheers

htbackdrops.com is scraped just fine these days fyi.
that being said, a community driven site for albums and artists like thetvdb and themoviedb would be most welcome.
