I have a Core2Duo 4500 (2.2GHz) and a AMD BE 2400 (2.3GHz). Both are dual core. I am testing with the Planet Earth MKV episode 1. The bird scene draws about 90+ percentage on AMD and there is significant stuttering while the Core2Duo only spikes occasionally to 80+ percent and doesn't stutter. I even put in 4GB total on the AMD machine and that didn't help.
Both are running Beta 2.
Megahurtz isn't everything :p
I don't think you can compare the MHz like this

I understand GHz isn't everything but both processors are latest gen 2 core processors. I guess I'm asking is it a architecture superiority or an ffmpeg optimization issue.

If you look at the two processors you will see many significant speed factors.
most notably the L1 and L2 cache sizes.

Well... you should compare the processors speed extracted from some sort of benchmarks for particular area of interest (gaming, arithmetic, encoding/decoding, random multimedia). GHz alone dont really tell anything special, its like megapixels in digital photography where there are decent 6Mpixel DSLR that can do splendid photos and compact 12Mpixels cameras that output extreme junk...

That. :)
