XBMC Connected is a skin based on the impressesive DivX Connected (http://www.divx.com/connected) frontend.
Taking advantage of XBMC's arsenal of features and options :laugh:

I have the same problem regarding the wait screen. Jmarshal was supposed to look into that :rolleyes: I'll have to contact him again..

on windows I haven't the "wait" problem.
it'll be possible to move the "now playng" box in the home page from the left to the right? in this way the icons are covered.

Busy dialog is disabled in Windows so you wont see it there.
I moved the now playing to the right just a bit ago :) It's in SVN.

just wanted to personally thank you for releasing this new skin seeing how all these other people/groups have been working on new skins FOREVER without actually releasing ANYTHING!
a few things about the skin....rss feeds on my SD tv are alittle blurred and when viewing video list everything gets "jumbled" (i.e. video clips with movies). oh and fast forward while watching movies works great....a big improvement over PM III.

RSS looks fine on my SD TV (NTSC).
I'm not sure what exactly you mean regarding jumbled. Can you expand on this?

*UPDATE*
Looks like it has to do with how the busy dialog takes a snapshot of the current background.
Even if I diable everything in the doalog it still becomes distortded.
Added Overlay Icons today.
I would suggest reset skin setings and then reload skin under Settings --> Skin Settings --> Extras.

Correct, we are only seeing it on the XBOX.
My understanding is the Busy Dialog is disabled for other OS's.

It works fine on win32 trunk, which does have the busy dialog. I'll have to add some sleeps and so on to xbox to trigger the busy dialog.

In episode view for videos I can't see the "watched" icon, think it used to be there as a little tick mark but doesn't show up anymore.
When I'm streaming video and it pauses to buffer, the "buffering" dialogue text doesn't show up, just a black bar. you *can* see the text if you have the video player info showing too (black button on xbox controller) . I also think it'd look neater if the buffering dialogue was at the bottom of the screen (like in PM3) rather than the middle.
Other than that works really nicely for me.

It's working for me on both XBOX and PC.
Download the latest version of Connected and see if it helps.

Just got the latest version of the skin and still don't see "watched" icon on xbox and windows, i reset the skin settings on xbox but no change - might be something i've done? XBMC knows which episodes are watched and unwatched because i can change it in the menu for each episode...
the buffering thing is shown on xbox version below, but also seems to happen on windows (don't use windows version much so don't know how to get the video player stuff to show)
NB this is using BBC iplayer plugin if that makes any difference?:

Are you in UK? BBC plug in is for UK only, based on your ip. I've also got the same effect with apple movie trailers script, so seems any streaming video is the same...
I think the new position for the buffering dialogue works well and is less intrusive than old position.

i like what you've done with the buffer label, not as snazzy but more practical
busy dialog is fixed too, it doesn't show the weird background anymore, although there's some funny flickering at the edges of the "please wait" box.
would it be possible to put the "please wait" box back in the centre of the screen? it moved a few revs back (probably as a result of my complaining about the buffering dialog) but now i'm thinking it might look better in the middle:grin:
Yeah buffering doesn't seem to work correctly with images.
Might have to look into that some time.
Busy was moved back to center earlier today (Revision 1851).
As you said there is still an issue with the corner and I have submitted the problem to jmarshal. Hopefully he comes up with something!

me again, found what i think is a bug in the file manager view (xbox, atlantis, PAL 4x3). When I use the context menu on a folder and select "calculate size" it seems to do something but the folder size doesn't show up.
Any ideas?

You should probably ask the skinner to add this feature. It would be very difficult for me to explain it.

You should add this to the SVN Repo Installer: http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29911 .... There's only one skin listed in there so far.
I have been doing a ton of optimizing over the last couple weeks.

1.Option to use bigger (much bigger) fonts in all screens (home screen is fine).
2.DVDthumb or Coverflow view in file mode.
3. Video on background when exiting 'full screen video' (currently small window appears only in home screen) and I think we don't need info window popup at this point.

First I go to: Videos>TV Shows> 30 Rock, and Scroll to Stargate Atlantis
When I exit back to home screen and then choose to go to TV Shows again It defaults back to 30 Rock instead of where i left it at Stargate Atlantis ...

The TV Shows shortcut is set for tvshowtitles.
If you want it to work like PMIII you need to disable the Videos Submenu.

But, of course there is something left to improve (my opinion, maybe its intentional the way it is):

I'm missing it the most when viewing a movie. In other skins, when I show up the info (with the status bar etc.) there is also the actual time displayed. I really got used to having a look at the clock this way instead of grabbing my phone from the desk or switching on the lights an having a look at the wall clock.
Could this be implemented, please? At least in the movie info or better, in all of the navigational screens too. Maybe you could add an option to the settings menu where the user could switch the clock on or off.
One question about the displayed pictures (the "flying polaroids"): where do they come from? I often see pics I've never seen before and I just can't say, what film they should belong to. Are they probably grabbed from some server?

Time has been added during full video when the info is pressed.
It's in SVN now (revision: 1921).
It was intentional to keep inline with the original Connected design however there is always room for improvements. :)

The current images are ones I include with the skin. Eventually I would like to grab images from the users profiles but the current structure makes it impossible. That's why it's still beta ;)
On a side note, I plan to cleanup the skin settings and add larger fonts then I will post another built version.

Biggst issues for me:
Navigation
Here's what I see as wrong and takes forever to move abount
Video -> Movies, TV Show etc.
To get to genre you have to go into Video -> Movies, hit back to get into genre
Same happens in music
What needs to be is:
Video -> Movies, Movies - Genre, and then TV SHows
Music -> Music - Genre - etc
All this back tracking makes it had to explain to the wife and other users.
I really do like it so far, I wish the fanart mode in movies should the fanart, all I get right now is that red background :P

Did you try to disable the submenus? Then Videos and Music should act the same as PMIII.
It might be possible to add another option to the submenu for Genres. I'll have to think about that...

Fanart works for all views that are followed by (fanart). You might have to refresh your fanart and then reboot to see them.

Yup in the basic sense.
It's just you choose video options, you end up in all-movies, or tv shows.
Once you in movies then you have use the back key to get genres.
I would think most people would use genres more then anything, I have over a thousand movies and don't like seeing them all at once, hard to find stuff.
So yes to the question direct links from the sub menu for music-genre, and video-genre would solve the issue :)

Revision 1940 is in SVN and should fix your problem when the submenus are disabled.
I'll think about adding category links at some point.

Fixed problem where it wouldn't remember last window opened (warwon).

New skin options to set Selection Image paths.
You will probably notice the skin pack is allot smaller in size now.
I removed the default selection images and made it a seperate pack.
You can now use your own custom images by placing them into folders and setting the folder paths under Settings -> Skin Options -> Home.
I would suggest keeping the imags around 300x300 pixels to avoid any memory issues.
Feel free to post links to any packs you make!

When you you set the script a new button is displayed in Weather.
I use this for a radar script.

So I used this skin for the past few days, and it's been going great.
Thanks for clearing up the weather script confusion, I would still prefer seeing the Temp on the main screen; anyways it's up to you if you decide or not :)
The thing I noticed is a bit strange is the photo flip display for Photo’s seems to be very un-random.
I have about 30+ pictures, one picture is of Jim Carey, and the other is Gandalf and it keeps repeating those pictures, it gets funny seeing Jim Carey 10 times before it finally shows the next picture.
It does cycle through them all for pictures but it's very picky and seems to focus on the first pictures in the folder (I might be crazy on this one).
But over all it's a very good skin, the other thing I noticed is that while using this skin I can't get the music library to update unless I force it from the file view.
I tested PHIII and when XBMC start it scanned for the new item I placed in the music folder, I let it scan it into the library, then shut down removed it, start up and load the connect skin, tried the same thing, and it didn't add the new music, which I thought was add.
I also tried adding another few tracks to the local drive not a network share, same issue.
Shrugs might be somthing on my end but the other skins are load, XBMC loads it just fine.
Another plus it loads fast, love the startup music, its fast, and the fanart view is nice.
My is getting used to it, and seems to be able to use a lot easier then other skins.

Thanks for adding the clock! I didn't test it already as I just copied the 1943-build to my HTPC, upgrading the 1906-build, so I will see the changes first this evening when relaxing on the couch :cool:
One thing I stumbled upon, also in the 'Now playing' info, is the size of the bar and the two playtimes beneath it (current playtime/total playtime). They don't sit side by side if the total playtime is larger than 59:59. In this case the bar intersects with the current playtime. I guess, the bar doesn't get shortened to the available space between the left corner and the beginning of the current playtime.
Probably this is already fixed in a newer version. If so, just forget about it!
Oh, another thing, same place: why does the description scroll down in this info window? I find this very annoying, as the available space is small and even if I wanted to read the description, it's nearly impossible as the lines are just some words wide and a useful description would get some dozen lines long. Could this description please be replaced by production year, director, a few actors or something like that? Anything would go as long as it's not scrolling.

I really like the Selection thing, but why don't you use the images of the library ? Is it doable? this way when I go to Movies i see only the images of the movies I have ( plus, when I add a new movie and scrape information for it, I have the selection updated as well)

You can actually try this yourself.
Point the folder location to one of the folders in "UserData\Thumbnails\Video".
You will see covers are split up into several folders and mixed in with actors.
So currently the only way to get what we are looking for is to make our own packs. There are scripts that will create actual screenshots from all your movies.

If you choose ...\Video\Fanart, you should get only movie-pics. I don't think, there is fanart relating to an actor. And even if, this could be fine too, as they would be much nicer than the standard actor pics, which are almost pretty ugly. . :rolleyes:
Yesterday I had a look at build 1943 whith the clock added to 'Now playing'. This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks! :grin:
The problem with the overlapping bar and playtime in the info-screen is still actual. I'm using PAL, so I don't know if it shows up in higher resolutions too. Maybe the info-screen is bigger in other resolutions and the bar fits beneath the playtime.
OK, I also had a look at the weather screen :;):
Please, don't take it to heart, but in the weather screen (PAL resolution!) nothing fits anywhere. Unfortunately I can't take screenshots, as they always seem to be broken, don't know why. So I try to explain:
On the very right side there is a lot of free space, completely unused. Beneath, there are the forecasts for the next days. Within these forecasts the german words are mostly to wide for the boxes, as well as the temperature values (they should be language independent, right?). In some of the boxes the text stays in the box and gets scrolled and in some of the boxes the text is simply running out of the box. If these boxes would be a little wider and using up the free space to the right, everything would fit.
In short words: the space could be used much more efficient.

Had the same issue too, but didn't bother about because it's just a pretty short time after startup. My resolution is standard PAL.

Great. The shortened terms are still readable and the temperature is now being displayed with a visible minus sign (seeing 12°C on the forecast screen was quite nice but the sign was just hidden in the border of the box).
All in all it's mostly fitting now. As I still cannot take screenshots I need to write down the things that stick out but mostly I just forget about it. :blush:
There are still some issues concerning the width of the german terms. They are mostly longer (therefore wider) than the english counterpart. Maybe they need to be shortened. But this should probably go to the translators.

I don't see how the screesaver issue is skin related. Please try it with another skin and see if it does the same thing.

All of your weather and fanart issues should be resolved after you update XBMC.
Sorry, it is only possible to show the watched/unwatched flags if you're in library mode. It would work with the skin but XBMC doesn't allow it.

There was a problem with the seek text not showing up but that was fixed back at revision 1966.
The "seekbar" is not the same as the info window and should display when you are paused or seeking (forward/rewind) or have the OSD menu up.

Allright, so there is no misunderstanding about that. The mentioned info displays correctly (and I think I didn't praise the new content yet. It's great like it is now!!)

Without a doubt this skin is borrowed from DivX Connected.

Ommm, my playlists are stored as .m3u-files in the folder ~/.xbmc/userdata/playlists and are usable independent of database mode.
When selecting the menu item playlists from the point videos I come to this folder and can select one of the stored playlists. BUT from within the list of video-sources (e.g. in the file-view) there also is a source called playlists. Formerly I could access my playlists by tapping on this item but this no longer works.

Allright, I'll give it another try tonight. I'll delete all my settings (e.g. the complete .xbmc folder) and start a freshly new installation. After first run, I'll install Connected and then it should work. If not, something weird is happening on my system :sniffle:

Sad to say, but all my tries didn't change anything. The seek-bar still ain't available. I also deleted all other resolution-specific folders I don't need, but no better. I even tried with a new user-account, but it's just the same. Within PM3 the seek-bar is available, within Connected it's not. Everything else works fine.

I don't know what I did wrong, but after a restart of xbmc the seekbar is gone again. I can't remember doing some weird settings that could have stolen my seekbar. The only thing I had to do was re-defining my sources as xbmc seemed to have deleted all imdb-related settings.
And the navigational sounds are still missing too. :sniffle:

No, this would not have anything to do with the sounds or the other issues you are having.
It was simply a coordinate change for the seekbar.
The next build I post will have the updated seekbar.

Unfortunately not. The DB update was already completed.
When playing a video and pressing pause while the info-window is showing makes the info-window disappear until I resume playing. The same when seeking.
I'll see tonight if its regarded to the used SVN of XBMC. I just upgraded to SVN 17541. Maybe it works again.

Something really strange is going on in my system. :nerd:
Last night I played one movie, the seekbar was available. Afterwards one episode of a tv-series, the seekbar is still there. Second Episode: the seekbar is gone! :sniffle: (Connected 1996 from SVN, XBMC 17541 from ppa)
I just don't understand what's happening.
I think I'll have to try it with debug mode, even if it's not really comfortable to watch a movie with debug info displayed. :no:
The navigation sound is also still gone, but that's not so hard, I can do without very well.

XBMC is deb installed, Ubuntu, 8.10 Atlantis, Connected 1993 zip file downloaded from this thread.
As you can see in the pic, every option other than number 4 is greyed out, so I cannot select Hecho(Done) or any other number.

I found out it's gotten even stranger: time or number of played items also plays a role in the disappearance of the seekbar. I just tested some movies, opened them, seeked a little around, paused them, with and without overlaid info-screen. and after some time or maybe after a certain number of items, the seekbar was gone. And I didn't even think about a series. :sniffle:
I'll try to explain it in the core-forum. Maybe someone can help.

Can you please either make a mod, or an option to have (while in library mode) it so when you leave lets say the movies folder and then return it goes back to where you were? TV shpws is where this get's me the most if I am watching #14 in a series and when it is finished it always defaults to #1 instead of keeping #14 highlighted like in every other skin.

It seems more people are going to posters instead of wide for TV show icons.

Oh, yeah I did remove the reflections in order to correctly position the watched/unwatched icons.
I plan on revisting all of the overlay icons and OSD buttons.

Settings uses SettingsBack.png
Filemanager uses MediaInfoBack.png
Best way to figure out what image is being used is to open the specific file and look for the first <include> then cross refrence in includes.xml

One thing though, when in music library browsing by songs i would realy like to be able to sort by artist and get the list by %A - %T (like pmIII).
This way you can view your whole collection sorted by artist and play with just one click.

I'm not sure what you mean. If you have the Music Submenu enabled and click on Song from home you are able to sort by Album or Track.

Is there a way to change the color of the plot text when in Fanart View? The text can be hard to read depending on the Fanart image.

I second Ghostdog, the grey doesn't show up against pale fan art which is a bit annoying. i just logged on to post this very same issue myself but Ghostdog beat me to it!
Is it possible to put in different font colours or maybe have a semi-transparent panel behind to show the text up better?

I've got a problem using lastest version of skin in the latest nightly xbox build (rev19222). The menu in the screenshot below doesn't appear when i press right from the home screen. This wasn't a problem in T3CH rev18221.

The menu is still working as i can get to settings, shutdown etc by pressing right then up or down the correct number of times, but just can't see it!

It first appeared (better: disappeared) some versions ago (I use SVN from ppa and, for my knowledge, the latest connected from svn), I don't remember exactly when. As I usually use the shortcuts on my keyboard to get the right menu up, this wasn't a problem for me. Every menu except of the 'main' one on the main screen shows up correctly.
Currently I don't have this problem on XBOX or WIN32. I am also using an older versions of XBMC.
Tomorrow I'll build the latest version and see what happens.

Another one: I guess I just figured out where the problem with the disappearing seek/pause window could be located. As I stated some weeks ago this little infoscreen doesn't show up sometimes when pressing pause or seeking in a movie. Now I guess it is related to using the database or not.
The last two weeks I only watched movies and series that where succesfully loaded to the database and I only started them from within the database mode. The infoscreen was always there. Yesterday, I watched some epsiodes from a series not in the database and .... the infoscreen is gone.
Probably this might be related to the latest SVN version, but I don't think so. IMHO this could be an issue when starting a movie / episode not in the db where the system somehow hangs up.
Could this in any way be related to the skin?

I would like to thank you for such a great job. By far the best skin out there. I just wondered whether you could make the Downloading Movie information bar a little smaller. Some menus get hidden behind this dialog box when its on screen.

Ah, I remember, it's the original skin. Might be a little dusty, didn't touch it since decades :laugh:
I'll try it with PMIII tonight, but as I frequently update to latest ppa version, the xbmc-version might have impact on this issue. Today I updated to 19325 and Connected is 2112.

Hello, I'm having the exact same issue with fanart. I'm pretty sure I'm not using a custom theme - mostly because I don't know what those are! Just today, I downloaded the new XBMC and a new copy of the skin and the issue remains.
The fanart totally overwhelms the detail view so as to make it unreadable. I have XBMC on an XBOX with a plain standard def TV. If it's unfixable, it's no biggie. However it would be really nice to be able to use fanart again.
Also, thanks for all the hard work on the skin!!!! I've tried many skins over the years but always went back to the default PMIII skin. Connected is the first one that I ever liked enough to stick with! It is by far the best skin for standard def TV out there.

Soory, I guess I explained it mistakable. At the moment there is no problem with the seekbar. It is always there when it should. But I try to explain what I did the last time the seekbar was gone:
As far as I remember, I first watched a movie or an episode which was held in the database and afterwards switched to folder view and scanned manually some episodes not already in the database (e.g. marked a series/episode and tried to download details for it, what didn't work). Then I watched some episodes for which there were no infos in the DB. That was the moment, the seekbar was gone.
(Unfortunately) I am not able to reproduce this error again. I tried with Connected as well as with PMIII but everything was OK. If it should happen again, I'll try to reproduce it and tell you how to make it happen.

Text has been brightened slightly to improve visibility.

This is no option in the settings, it's a view which you can select. Fanart is available only in database mode. There you can switch to a special view which shows the title and the cover in a row and the fanart of the selected item on background. Looks awesome!! :nod:
If you can't see any item in the list of views: it's the last one. :rolleyes:

After playing with this skin some more I find it fantastic (and really great for people with 4:3 tv like me..yes there are still people out there with SD tv's! :)......)
I have a few suggestions/request if i may
1)i would love to have fanart in file mode and not just library mode
2) is there an option to have the list view show fanart? i really love the current list view in connected and would love if it could be combined with fanart
3)i prefer seeing the whole fanart without the info on top and not grayed out like it is right now, is it currently possible? i think its better to get the info by pressing i and not having it show up as default
4)i love the current skin (i looked at the other skin mods but they are not as good) but i dislike the purple color (though i suspect my wife will like it :).. can there be an option to use another jpeg or "wallpaper"?
5)i would love to have the current time and time left in movie in the playback OSD if its simple and possible to make

I have no skills in programing or art but would love to help in other areas if needed.

First things first, you need to get into settings by pressing right on the main page (home).
A menu should come up where you can select settings.
From there select Skin Settings.
In Skin settings you can change the skins background.
Disable the info text in fanart views.
Pressing info during video will display the time.
The other requests I will look into soon.

a few more questions/ramblings if you dont mind :)
1) i managed to have the fanart show without the info as you suggested through the settings but the fanart is still very dark (like its grayed)..can this be turned off and just have the normal jpeg show?
2) Also in other skins i tried (aeon,serenity,etc...) the fanart fades nicley between movies. In connected there is no fading and when you switch between movies you get the default background for the first few seconds (bug?). It maybe a technical difficult thing so please ignore this if it is but would it be possible to have the same with connected?
3)I know you are part of the mediastream skin (my fav skin all last year until i discovered serenity :). After a few versions they added support for reading utf-8 text..can it be added to connected as well?

Well primary english but the wife has some files in hebrew and right now it appears as gibrish..i would love to have english as the main language and support for hebrew (that is utf-8 i guess) in file names

I think the problem is we need to create a Hebrew language file.

Well I'm not in it to win it but thanks for the kind words :)
It should be possible to create a black image and select it in Skin Settings as the background.
You might even get away with a 1x1 pixel background. Smaller the better.
Let me know if you need more help.
Awesome skin. Everything seems to be pretty well thought out, and functions nicely. The options for the skin settings alone are stellar! I'm not a huge fan of the stock wallpaper/background, but that's just 'cause I'm not a huge pink/purple kind of fan, but I understand the reason for it.
Anyway, yeah, that was pretty much the only complaint I had lol. Tough to find not only great looking skins, but skins that look great in SD as well. Some of us have an old beater hanging around that still wants to play games and movies in SD :)

2)could there be an option to "map" the right button to open the categories (videos,pictures etc..) in the home screen instead of bringing the settings dialogue?
I have a few more suggestions but i dont want to bother you to much :)

what i meant with backgrounds, that was not about specificaly created ones for this skin, i meant simply various pictures and artworks from around the Internet that more or less looks good as this skins background. I partticulary like sci-fi and fantasy artworks, for example.

You know instead of scrolling down you can scroll up to get to files.
Another option is to disable the Videos submenu in Skin settings.
It is possible to map the right key to access submenus but how would you access settings?

Choose from 6 different colored backgrounds
Select a custom folder for backgrounds
Enable or disable diffuse (darken) for backgrounds and fanart
Media flags have been added for movies (watched, resolution, codecs, sub titles)
Add a background to wrap view (helps with fanart)
Option to disable text and add background to weather (helps with fanart)
Although it probably doesn't seem like a lot was changed, there was.
Some Skin options have been moved so I suggest looking through them all.
To avoid upgrade problems:
Go to Skin settings --> Extras and click "Reset Skin Settings" and then click on "Reload Skin".
Let me know if you come across any problems.
Ive d/l and installed the new updated skin. I like the different background colors. I really like skin. Clean, but not empty and not a hard learning curve on navigation.

On a side not is it worth installing Weather backgrounds? From looking over forums seems like a lot of steps to have a backdrop.
I know its off subject but noticed it in settings.
I use weather fanart but it's purely personal preference.
It's not difficult to install with this skin.
Download the fanart pack and unzip to a local folder.
Then select the folder with the images from Skin settings.

I am talking about "grey" text. For example, when "Weather" opened, names of conditions are white, but conditions itself are grey text. Maybe I would like to see, for example, yellow text, if background is dark, etc. Its good that text and values different, but contrast for reading actual values is kinda low, harder to read.

Hi, after installing Rev 2160 yesterday I got some strange behaviour in the settings: I can either enable weather info or weather details (might be the naming is a little different, it's the names I just remember) but enabling one of them disables the other one.
Is this intentional (if so, why?) or is there something wrong with the settings? I'd like to see the weather info on the main page as well as the details on the weather page. But actually only one of them is possible.
Also there seems to be a sizing problem with the weather page and disabled details. The fanart only covers the lower 2/3 of the height while the upper rest shows the pic from the background (I chose a folder with pics for the standard background).
Maybe it's a temporary problem again which will be gone the next time I start XBMC. But nevertheless it might be helpful for you.
And als from me: fantastic work, great skin! Every time I have a look at another one (7tft, xbox, PM III etc) I soon get back to Connected!

Allright, I just had a look at it and the settings say:
"Hauptmenü" -> "Enable Wetter Conditions" and
"Wetter" -> "Enable Wetter Info" (Hauptmenü = Main Menu; Wetter = Weather)
The first one enables the current weather on the main screen. The latter one enables the detailed weather infos on the weather page. But only one of them works at a time. I also reset the settings (via "reset skin settings" and "reload skin") but that didn't help.
Additionally, after resetting the settings I don't get the backgrounds pics to work again. At the moment the background is completely black. The only pics that work is the fanart for a movie and the weather-fanart. Probably I'm just confused by all the different settings and don't get the right combination which enables the background again. Maybe you could clear the settings up a little?

German. The localization is a mix of german and english. Sometimes a little hard to understand but it works.
BTW: XBMC is Version 9.04~rc1svn19929-intrepid1, it's the latest from ppa.
