Hi,

I have an idea for a linux based file server that would suit my needs (and probably a lot of people here). I just dont know easiest way to do it.

These is the features i need...

* Filesharing (via SMB and AFP). this is pretty easy..
* Headless operation (via VNC or Webserver?)
* Bittorrent client that can be started remotely.. I know a few servers can start downloading if you drop the .torrent in a watched folder.
* TV Episode Downloader (TED or similar).
* Printer Server using CUPS.
* Folder access control of some kind to protect private folders.

Im using XBMC in library mode which would scan the files downloaded and add to the library automatically.

Most features are available with FreeNAS which I already use but I could really do with the bittorrent client feature so i dont have to have 2 computers running.

Has anyone else done this or got any pointers on doing this?

Hi Gary,

Wow, i guess i should have had a look at freenas recently. Good call! giving it a try now

UPDATE: Tried it out. Unfortunately its pretty basic at the moment and you have to download .torrents manually then upload to the transmission interface. would have been great if it monitored a folder and started the torrents automatically.

try bitflu
it has a CLI and web interface, and has an autoload directory, where you can drop torrent files in.
