hi.
i’m missing that the subtitles was as default on before the 18 or 19 may 2004 cvs.
pleas make an radio button in the video settings, or an options in the xboxmediacenter.xml (true or false)

i always use subs on so it would be nice.

i also think subs should be disabled by default that's not the problem... but the annoying thing is that they'll have to be re-enabled after switching from part one to two while using movie stacking.
btw: some people will like it if subs are always on... maybe it's possible to add such an option in the settings?

is it possible to add "default subtitle language" -feature? so you don't have to choose your subtitles every time.

p.s. you have spelling error there: "finish" should be finnish. :)

changed this once more.. now only dvd's subs are disabled by default. other subs start up automatically.

still not a complete solution since it doesn't remeber if you selected the second subtitle when the next file starts to play.

i support sub to be enabled for ripped format e.g. divx, xvid. as these are ripped format and by having the sub together with the video file means that the user wants to have the subtitle on, otherwise they can achieve it without the sub.

as for dvd we can have it disable.

in dvds, the default subtitles state is in written somewhere in the dvd headers or metafiles. i know that movie dvds published in israel usually display subtitles by default when you play them (because most people would want them). the language selection depends on the settings of the dvd player.

as for divx and the like, it should probably be on by default.

the only reason i did not upgrade from 5-18 is that the subs are disabled

bring 'em back!!!

they are as i said before.. just not for dvd's, which normally don't have them enabled by default. (unless forced)

the only reason i did not upgrade from 5-18 is that the subs are disabled. bring 'em back!!! :)just enable them via osd or "title" on dvd-remote for now, they haven't been permenetly disabled so you can't enable them again

i also prefer to have subtitles on by default (as english is not my first language)

the perfect solution however would be a radio box in srt subtitle settings (display by default enable/disable). this will make everyone happy i think :).

it would be nice to have the option of turning it on/off/sticky (ie remeber the previous movie setting). similarly use the previous audio stream and subtitle text streams when there are multiple streams available.

hi,

i have question about disabling subtitles within xbmc, i know you can disable it while the divx/xvid is playing using osd or pressing the title button on the remote while the movie is being played, but that's not what i want. i want xbmc to not even bother to try and load the subtitles and just load the movie.
the movies i have contain vobsub subtitles in the same directory as the divx/xvid, they have already been burnt to cd so i can't actually move the vobsubs to another directory that xbmc doesn't search. and as we all know vobsubs can take a very long time to load which is why i want to disable xbmc from loading it in the first place.

from looking at the xml configuration file i understand that xbmc searches the directory where the divx/xvid is located first for subtitles, then it searches the subtitles directory specified within the xml file.

any help would be appreciated,
shag

can you please add an option to be able to enable and disable the standard setting for subtitles.

it's very annoying that you have to enable the subtitles after each and every file.

hey

had a quick question about subtitles in xbmc. i’ve been encoding everything in xvid with muxed titles in an mkv container. this is the same wither it's avi or divx. it seems tho that every time xbmc defaults to subs automatically when i play the file. is there a way to set it to default to off unless i chose to turn on the subs. a lot of times i have dual audio files with the first audio track in english and second in another language. so usually i have to go and turn them off every time i chose to watch a file in english. i have a feeling the answer here is in the muxing end of things but figure i'd ask anyways. thanks.

just a quick one:
why not being able to always display subtitles by default, and more precisely a specified language's subtitles? just like always display english subtitle when a movie starts. indeed, some people always watch movies with subtitles on. it's kinda frustrating to always have to turn them on again each time...

every time i watch a video file the xbmc spends a good 20-30 seconds searching for the subtitle file(s) for the video file (while displaying "caching subtitles"). during this time i see the ccxstream.exe logging requests for directories that don't exist until finally the xbmc gives up and requests the video file.

i don't have any subtitle files for any of my video files and don't plan on using this feature in the near future.

is it possible to turn off subtitle searching (globally/per xbmsp share)?

if not, is there some way to speed this search up? i tried creating the first directory it looks for (s:\tv\btv\subs), but that seemed to make no difference.

here is the log i have from ccxstream...

subtitle settings are saved per file but you can change the default across the board (though i thought they defaulted to off):

1) play a video.
2) bring up the osd and go to the audio subpanel.
3) turn off subtitles
4) click "set as default for all videos".

this will disable subtitles for all files, even those already in the settings database. after that, if you play a video and enable subtitles for that video, they will be enabled on that video only.

heh, atleast i spotted another bug. those dirs should be

s:\tv\btv\subs\cd1 etc :)

no way to speed it up. i don't think the calls to exists is what's taking the time.

there was a design flaw a while back if you had lots of rar files in the same dir as it would open all of them to check for subs inside them. i changed it to only look in <filenoext>.rar in the main dir, and all archives in other dirs.

u can disable checking inside .rars in settings.

hey kraqh3d,

thanks for the response. i did what you suggested but it made no difference.

it still looks for subtitles even when subtitles have been turned off. i did set it as default for all videos (and verified that this setting is retained between two different videos) but it still spends about 20-30 seconds looking for the subtitles...

any other ideas? :)

kraqh3d
2006-02-13, 17:30
i thought that would've disabled subtitle searching, in addition to their display. i guess the subtitle file need to be cached first so that the display can be seemlessly enabled and disabled.

Gamester17
2006-02-13, 17:38
yes i've seen this as well, and a problem/bug is when you encounter a corrupt subtitle that xbmc won't load then it won't play that video as it always tries to load the subtitle before video (even with sub disabled), so you have to delete the sub

spiff
2006-02-13, 18:31
kraqh,

you're correct in the second assumption. i'm working on improving it...

kraqh3d
2006-02-13, 20:11
so then there is no way to completely disable subtitles?

breki
2006-02-14, 04:12
i'm happy to hear you are working on improving it, spiff. this is what bugs me the most about the xbmc (overall i'm very happy)... :)

how do i find out when the improvements are ready? will an update be posted on this thread or do i need to monitor sourceforge or something?

thanks in advance for your hard work! :)

breki
2006-02-14, 04:26
i decided the right thing in any case would be to file this as a bug so that we can track it...

http://sourceforge.net/tracker....=581838 (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1431192&group_id=87054&atid=581838)

kraqh3d
2006-02-14, 14:42
but its not a bug. it works as designed. its just an annoyance, particularly to you.

breki
2006-02-15, 05:15
well, i disagree. i think it is a bug...

if i turn off subtitles i expect that to include caching of subtitles before playing video files as well. it doesn't make sense to spend 20-30 seconds looking for subtitle files that won't be used...

breki
2006-04-13, 18:54
hey spiff,

any news on your proposed "improvements" (see comment from february 13th)? :)

spiff
2006-04-18, 13:26
i have fixed a few bugs.

i guess we can make the enable subtitle button enable/disable caching as well.

spiff
2006-04-22, 02:05
- 21-04-2006 changed: enable/disable subtitles now enable/disable caching of subtitles. also polished browsing a bit.
