Don't know if it's intentional or not, but the behaviour with fanart is different for showcase and info view.. I like showcase the best, but I only get the behaviour I would like to see with info view.
Thing is I have enabled my own fanart in settings, so it constantly cycles from my folder of choice.. When I pause on a movie in info view the fanart for the movie I selected slide in, but this does not happen in showcase.. Here fanart for the selected movie/tvserie does not show as long as I have selected "cycle fanart in info/showcase views..." in settings.
I would like the behaviour where I can have my chosen fanart cycling, untill I pause on a movie, then it should show the fanart for that movie. As I said I don't know if it is intentional or not, but I found it a bit weird that the behaviour is not the same for the two views..

just tried it, and it works fine on my system, and someone else tension113 confirmed it works on his... so, maybe ur running out of memory or something... no idea... fanart cycling works a ok for me, so i don't know how i can help u out... although i do... guess u don't like volume iii now either... hahaha...

looking good, however, the tv view with the filmstrip border around the screen thumbnails looks a little out of place. I really like the dvd case. I think it should kinda flow a little better. It would be nice if the now playing icon had the dvd cover as well and if we could have something similar for the tv episodes and music albums. not sure. Just looks a little disjointed. these are observations form the screenshots. I will try it out myself tonight. I think you should move away form the dvd case and make all the views look like the now playing with a gloss and just a border. any one else have any ideas?
out of place... people complained about the original so i changed it, and since then, ur the only one to complain about the new one... create a new filmstrip overlay for me and send it to me so i can include it, not making any changes for awhile... but we'll see what happens come volume iv... and for now playing... i removed the other covers from it for a reason, the home screen needed uniformity, and needed a bit of modifying... so i did what i did... but universal covers may be the way of the future... we'll see...

This is one mean release, the list of changes is long and strong in my opinion. Best thing is that you do your own thing as well, and don't just deal with requests.

It's amazing. From the home screen to the view changes, everything is slick as hell. The Info view is my new default. It's so smooth and in my opinion looks better than the Showcase view now, with the small text while navigating your collection. Love the letter showing location in catalogue as well. Real useful! Using lower home scroller position, and the shading behind the now playing panel bothers me, because some text gets mingled in the background (that's a requests, my first). Like the cast section in video info as well. Good that thumbs have been included. All in all, amazing job with this Volume! I love everything, and I can't wait for Volume 4!

Not sure why this would be happening.. I have mine set to cycle through my fanart and both showcase and info are working the same.. Fanart for each movie comes into view when paused on it..

Screenshots look great, I'll install this and try it out when I get home. Has anyone used this version on their Xbox? I'm wondering how well it runs on xbox, i love the new features and look of this but am worried how it will run.

works fine on my friends xbox... but there are issues when backdrop cycling is enabled in showcase and info views... but very seldom... memory issues occur from time to time... but across the rest of the skin... it works fine... so, if u have memory glitches, try resizing fanart and hopefully that'll make showcase and info work perfectly...
Check your pm's, I'll leave it up for a week or so. Not too many hits ;)

one question, how do I speed up the delay it takes to show the info and fanart for a movie?

Any chance you could add the Watched/Unwatched status overlay and item count used by Mediastream in TV Shows Library mode? It's incredibly useful to see what's newly downloaded without having to Hide Watched, which can make the interface look very messy with the same two or three shows repeating forever.

Absolutely love this release! Really like the design of the mainmenu scroller and now playing widget. Also the Info view is superb. Like it's speed and smoothness. And there has to be much more to discover tonight ;)

Hey! As I've said before, you've done some incredible work on this, XB2IRIS!
I just have a few quick comments. I've just started using XBMC on AppleTV. There are a few issues that are related to the fact that the AppleTV remote only has six buttons: Up, Down, Left, Right, Play/Pause/Select (all one button) and Menu. XBMC Beta 2 adds two other button functions: Play/Pause/Select (held for 2 seconds) is Title (Context Menu) and Menu (held for 2 seconds) is Back.
I think you are aware of the lack of a separate stop button and added Stop to the Menu during video playback. Thanks for this! AppleTV users are currently missing the pop-up shutdown (Quick Commands) menu, Info, Display and the music control OSD that pops up when you hit the Start Button on the controller. Without that music control OSD, once you start playing music, you can't easily stop it. I had some ideas that would make life easier for AppleTV users that I don't think would disturb regular users much.
I was thinking that you could implement some of this missing functionality to key presses that don't seem to be used otherwise on the Home screen. Right now, activating the context menu on the Home screen doesn't do anything, perhaps this could bring up the shutdown (Quick Commands) menu instead? Similarly, hitting Back on the Home screen also doesn't do anything, so maybe this could bring up the music control OSD? Also, on the Home screen, hitting the Info button brings up a really cool System Info screen. Any chance you could add a button link to that in the Core menu?
It took some doing, but when I was using XBMC on Xbox, I edited the keymap.xml to add the ability to Page Up and Page Down with my Monster MCC AV 100 universal remote using discrete codes. Right now, without the ability to Page Up or Down, navigating through 800+ albums in Music is crazy and time consuming. I know you don't like the side navigation bar, so is there any way you could add Page Up and Page Down to the top navigation bar in Music? I don't think that most users have a way to Page Up or Down by default, so while it would clutter up that bar a little, it would be pretty useful for most users.
One other general suggestion/bug fix I've been meaning to mention is on the Info screen for movies. The Trailer button is available for selection whether a trailer is actually available from IMDb or not. It would be more intuitive if the button was blank or gone entirely if there is no trailer available.
Thanks again for all of the work you've put into this Aeon mod! We all really appreciate it and I understand that you'll be taking a break for a while. While XBMC on AppleTV isn't exactly the big upgrade I hoped it would be, I think there is good potential there and as time goes by, I expect they'll be more and more users of this platform. It would be great if Horizonz could better accommodate these users as well.

Well , I am no expert, but a earlier version had the current dvd case which I love, and the pictures had a modified version of that dvd case that would also look great for music cd's. you could use the same dvd case and cd case for games. pictures, i love how you have it now but maybe more translucent? like the dvd case is now? not sure. tv show banners had a long modified version of the dvd case as well, not sure if that is still in this release, so screenshots for thumbnails of tv shows, hmm, maybe a translucent frame? or ditch the dvd/cd case isea altogether and make the frame with the little arrow like on the homepage now playing icon. hope you understand what I am trying ot say. I cannot wait to tweak this out with fanart etc, cuz this is going ot be my main skin going forward....

Thanks for the quick reply! By item count I mean unwatched item count. A very useful feature of Mediastream (which so far is the only one I miss out of Aeon) is being able to go down the list of TV shows and immediately see the count of unwatched episodes in the right-hand column. It's a bit like this:
American Dad | e 20 | u 1
Where e is the total number of eps (which you currently display) and u is the number of unwatched eps. So I can scroll down the list and immediately look for anything that doesn't have a "0" on the rightmost column of the list, and that means a new episode. Visually e and u are represented by subtle icons which are also used as overlays on episode thumbnails, but that's besides the point.
The only other small issue I have is that when cycling from one movie/show to another in Info views the fanart for the item I'm moving to flashes for an instant before disappearing and then fading in properly. It's a little jarring, but no big deal.
Otherwise I think your skin is superb, and I look forward to using it more in the future. :)

I didn't have a chance to go through much last night but I did notice that pressing Info (i) during video playback still doesn't show the progress bar, it shows the movie info in the middle of the screen instead. Other than that it looked great. I love the new "Now Playing", I'd love something like that for the fullscreen music vis too instead of the huge info in the middle, hehe.
I did come across a question too: if I enable "Full screen media backdrop" (or whatever that option is called) then if I go to the home screen while I'm playing music or a movie it shows the vis/movie instead of my fanart. If I go to any screen except the home screen, though, my fanart shows again instead of the media that's playing. Is this intentionally how it works or should the music vis/movie keep playing in the background?
And lastly I'd love support for PgUp/PgDn too for quicker scrolling.... or some kind of scroll bar.

Currently I'm testing XBMC on my linux laptop. Hoping to replace my mediacenter running MediaPortal. So far so good.
One thing I noticed is that the backgrounds are not scaled down to the resolution XBMC is using. I'm running XBMC in 480p mode and only see about 1/4 of the background image. The image fills up the screen but only the top-left of the orginal is visible.
Not sure if this is a XBMC setting or perhaps a bug.

Very nice job XB2IRIS. I'm running your mod on Atlantis Beta 2 on an AppleTV.
First off a question/comment. I love your Iris background graphic but in my media room, where I keep the lights down, it just seems a little too bright and takes attention away from the media content itself. So what I did was take a screenshot of your image and toned it down a little bit (hope you don't mind - added some hue & saturation - attachment). I then tried to add it manually as my backdrop (Aeon/Backgrounds) but it doesn't seem to appear everywhere I set it at. Example...Movies, it's there on the Home screen and when I go into Movies/List View & Poster View it's there as well. But when I go to Info or Showcase View it switches back to your original graphic. Is this supposed to happen? Those two areas are the main view I want to use for Movies. For TV Shows and Pictures it shows your graphic in Showcase View while Music and Games it shows my graphic in Showcase View (all other views for all four show my graphic).
In Movies/Info view the black info box, to the right of the DVD box, flickers on and off sporadically (do not see this in other views).
Date and Time location...I don't care either way but if you were taking a vote, I'd say it should be in the top left. The eye travels left to right, top to bottom and it just seems odd with that space empty, especially in the Home screen.
Lower Home Scroller position....I love it! But as I said above, the Date & Time would look better up on top (graphic flipped upside down of course).
Other than some of the animations being a little jerky (same in other skins -- AppleTV issue?) I find this skin just simply amazing. And being a new XBMC user as of just a few weeks ago I'm blown away how this has breathed new life into my AppleTV! Thanks!

Some of the features included haven't been properly tested thoroughly, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. This will be my last release before I take a break from anything xbmc related. Not long ago I updated to Beta 1 and discovered the new potential with Fan Art and everything. I started with PM3.HD. Then MediaStream. Then Aeon. And Im sure you already know where I stopped.

Im running perfect on an Xbox in full glory, no Xbox-mode crap. I have no issues at all. Cant wait to load the new update.

can you make the default (black) menu less transparent? It is difficult read when there is a dark background.
Also, alternative borders... please. DVD & CD cases are not really needed (and in some cases even appropriate) with much content no longer coming from "disc" ... plus I think the skin is 100% sleek, with exception of the 'cases'. At least give us the option to have a "normal" border.

i noticed that in V3 .. while pausing a movie .. now the progress bar appears at the bottom just like i asked for, thx :). However, i sort of miss the info panel that popped up before (in V2). Did you try to maybe have both panel's appear, or does that clutter up the screen a bit too much.?
Also, how do you get that info panel to pop up during playback? When i hit 'I", i get the spec's info at the top (ie, bitrate, fps, frame drop count, etc)

My suggestion for those panels:
fast forward/rewind/skip : only bottom panel
pause : both panels
info/i: only bottom panel
I can't see why you'd want info/i to cause the huge info to show during playback... you can't even see the movie, hehe. The bottom panel makes more sense IMO, to check how much is left in the movie without pausing, and to see all info just pause and read it.
The actor/cast info works perfectly, great job xb2iris and thanks very much! I noticed tonight that the time was getting cut off on the home screen (Thursday Oct 16 10:00 PM, but no PM was showing just ...) so maybe that could be a little wider. Also it seems that words with accents don't show correctly in the font. It looks like there are no international CAPS characters in the font so it shows a lowercase instead, like LéON (lowercase é). MediaStream recently had this problem too, I think the font just needs additional characters?
Also a suggestion, can you add the library counts to each view (total # of items) like MediaStream has? Just a small number in the bottom right corner so we know how many items we're scrolling through.

I agree, I'd like to see the info OSD to simply show the title of the video, the movie poster/episode thumb, progress bar, THE CURRENT TIME (clock), and then maybe the controls (bookmarks, pause, stop.. etc).
And perhaps have it just along the bottom of the screen, the floating box in the middle of the screen looks a little silly IMO, because it does block the video. Usually when i hit the info button it's just to see how far along in the video I am and/or to check the current time, or to set a bookmark.
Anyways, again.. I love the skin. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful skin that is now my new default. I was amazed at how responsive it is. Thank you for putting so much effort into making this. It's a true showcase for XBMC.
The fanart-delay makes browsing much more responsive in file-mode. I asked for this feature a long way back, but I got the comment that it wouldn't make a difference....
Well, anyhow it IS working ;-)
And it's much softer to the eye as well... These big full screen changes are enough to induce an epileptic seizure..
But now I'd like to decrease the delay. I think a delay of about 0.4 seconds is enough to have the benefit while browsing....

The fanart-delay makes browsing much more responsive in file-mode. I asked for this feature a long way back, but I got the comment that it wouldn't make a difference....

But now I'd like to decrease the delay. I think a delay of about 0.4 seconds is enough to have the benefit while browsing....

Hey! As I've said before, you've done some incredible work on this, XB2IRIS!
I just have a few quick comments. I've just started using XBMC on AppleTV. There are a few issues that are related to the fact that the AppleTV remote only has six buttons: Up, Down, Left, Right, Play/Pause/Select (all one button) and Menu. XBMC Beta 2 adds two other button functions: Play/Pause/Select (held for 2 seconds) is Title (Context Menu) and Menu (held for 2 seconds) is Back.
I think you are aware of the lack of a separate stop button and added Stop to the Menu during video playback. Thanks for this! AppleTV users are currently missing the pop-up shutdown (Quick Commands) menu, Info, Display and the music control OSD that pops up when you hit the Start Button on the controller. Without that music control OSD, once you start playing music, you can't easily stop it. I had some ideas that would make life easier for AppleTV users that I don't think would disturb regular users much.
I was thinking that you could implement some of this missing functionality to key presses that don't seem to be used otherwise on the Home screen. Right now, activating the context menu on the Home screen doesn't do anything, perhaps this could bring up the shutdown (Quick Commands) menu instead? Similarly, hitting Back on the Home screen also doesn't do anything, so maybe this could bring up the music control OSD? Also, on the Home screen, hitting the Info button brings up a really cool System Info screen. Any chance you could add a button link to that in the Core menu?
It took some doing, but when I was using XBMC on Xbox, I edited the keymap.xml to add the ability to Page Up and Page Down with my Monster MCC AV 100 universal remote using discrete codes. Right now, without the ability to Page Up or Down, navigating through 800+ albums in Music is crazy and time consuming. I know you don't like the side navigation bar, so is there any way you could add Page Up and Page Down to the top navigation bar in Music? I don't think that most users have a way to Page Up or Down by default, so while it would clutter up that bar a little, it would be pretty useful for most users.
One other general suggestion/bug fix I've been meaning to mention is on the Info screen for movies. The Trailer button is available for selection whether a trailer is actually available from IMDb or not. It would be more intuitive if the button was blank or gone entirely if there is no trailer available.
Thanks again for all of the work you've put into this Aeon mod! We all really appreciate it and I understand that you'll be taking a break for a while. While XBMC on AppleTV isn't exactly the big upgrade I hoped it would be, I think there is good potential there and as time goes by, I expect they'll be more and more users of this platform. It would be great if Horizonz could better accommodate these users as well.

hey man, keymap.xml is the only way to specify button usage... for instance... the context menu is coded in a way that means all u can do is specify how it looks and not where it appears... u can tell it not to appear somewhere, but you can't get it to appear somewhere it doesn't, because it's xbmc defined... sorry, same with the back button... u can't really define button functions in skin xml code, unless its meant to be done that way... so unfortunately, u'll have to wait for better support for appleTV...
about the page up/page down idea... thats an idea i'll think about... i'll probably just create a page control for all views... something uniform... i'm not really a fan of page controls or scrollbars... but we'll see what happens... no way i'm gonna have page controls/scrollbars in showcase or info views though... it'd spoil it completely i reckon... but as i said, i'll look into it when i'm back from my holi...
Well , I am no expert, but a earlier version had the current dvd case which I love, and the pictures had a modified version of that dvd case that would also look great for music cd's. you could use the same dvd case and cd case for games. pictures, i love how you have it now but maybe more translucent? like the dvd case is now? not sure. tv show banners had a long modified version of the dvd case as well, not sure if that is still in this release, so screenshots for thumbnails of tv shows, hmm, maybe a translucent frame? or ditch the dvd/cd case isea altogether and make the frame with the little arrow like on the homepage now playing icon. hope you understand what I am trying ot say. I cannot wait to tweak this out with fanart etc, cuz this is going ot be my main skin going forward....
i reckon the universal frame/case would be the way forward... a really sexy, really cool frame across the skin, would make everything so much more universal... although, certain covers look great don't they... i'll have to try a few ideas, but maybe i'll stick with what i got and change one or two frames a bit, like the episode one... we'll see... the way forward is through inovation and ideas...
Thanks for the quick reply! By item count I mean unwatched item count. A very useful feature of Mediastream (which so far is the only one I miss out of Aeon) is being able to go down the list of TV shows and immediately see the count of unwatched episodes in the right-hand column. It's a bit like this:
American Dad | e 20 | u 1
Where e is the total number of eps (which you currently display) and u is the number of unwatched eps. So I can scroll down the list and immediately look for anything that doesn't have a "0" on the rightmost column of the list, and that means a new episode. Visually e and u are represented by subtle icons which are also used as overlays on episode thumbnails, but that's besides the point.
The only other small issue I have is that when cycling from one movie/show to another in Info views the fanart for the item I'm moving to flashes for an instant before disappearing and then fading in properly. It's a little jarring, but no big deal.
Otherwise I think your skin is superb, and I look forward to using it more in the future. :)
i get what your saying about the unwatched total... maybe i'll just put it in brackets or something... don't really have space on most of the views info sections... but we'll see how i can accomodate it... and the flashing fanart image is the same across every skin which has a delay for fanart to show... that's a bug with fade out animation, because if you move away from an item, when it fades away it is pointing at another item before it fades away completely, hence the split second of that items fanart... nothing can be done about that... sorry dude... wish i had a solution, but no one had any idea when i mentioned it to djh back in the day...
I didn't have a chance to go through much last night but I did notice that pressing Info (i) during video playback still doesn't show the progress bar, it shows the movie info in the middle of the screen instead. Other than that it looked great. I love the new "Now Playing", I'd love something like that for the fullscreen music vis too instead of the huge info in the middle, hehe.
I did come across a question too: if I enable "Full screen media backdrop" (or whatever that option is called) then if I go to the home screen while I'm playing music or a movie it shows the vis/movie instead of my fanart. If I go to any screen except the home screen, though, my fanart shows again instead of the media that's playing. Is this intentionally how it works or should the music vis/movie keep playing in the background?
And lastly I'd love support for PgUp/PgDn too for quicker scrolling.... or some kind of scroll bar.
ok, during playback of videos, info buttons logically should show info about the file being played... while when ur navigating or want to know info about location, you do something location orientated... makes sense to me... i kinda like the idea... messed around with a few other ideas... but this is what i got stuck on... hope u can learn to live with it... coz i'm sick of messing with the osd's now... hehehe...
scrollbar and pgup/pgdn could be done though... i'll look into that... and the home page media backdrop is only for the home screen... that's the section that function is in in the aeon options... hahaha... makes sense... don't think it would at all look good in the showcase view... wow... thats an idea...!

yeah, but if u disable the rss panel, it won't show anywhere... and if u want it to show, u re-enable it, and it'll show in which ever position the scroller is in... hope that makes sense now... don't need an option to disable rss panel, because it's in there already...
Not long ago I updated to Beta 1 and discovered the new potential with Fan Art and everything. I started with PM3.HD. Then MediaStream. Then Aeon. And Im sure you already know where I stopped.

Currently I'm testing XBMC on my linux laptop. Hoping to replace my mediacenter running MediaPortal. So far so good.
One thing I noticed is that the backgrounds are not scaled down to the resolution XBMC is using. I'm running XBMC in 480p mode and only see about 1/4 of the background image. The image fills up the screen but only the top-left of the orginal is visible.
Not sure if this is a XBMC setting or perhaps a bug.

yeah, horizonz it made at 720p... thats why ur getting backdrops looking like that... all backdrops are coded to fit on a 1280x720 display... should stretch to ur resolution, so, all i can imagine it that it doesn't work so well on 480p... Is anyone else having this problem???? because i've tried this skin on 720p, 16x9, and 1080i and they all look great... no idea, but not convinced it's a bug... wait i just tried it on a pc at 480p and it works fine... looks fine... so, no idea whats going on... maybe its a linux issue... try reseting the settings in aeon... does mediastream do this as well?
i like the showcase icons for movies/tvshow, but how do you change the games showcase icons to dvds covers?

Very nice job XB2IRIS. I'm running your mod on Atlantis Beta 2 on an AppleTV.
First off a question/comment. I love your Iris background graphic but in my media room, where I keep the lights down, it just seems a little too bright and takes attention away from the media content itself. So what I did was take a screenshot of your image and toned it down a little bit (hope you don't mind - added some hue & saturation - attachment). I then tried to add it manually as my backdrop (Aeon/Backgrounds) but it doesn't seem to appear everywhere I set it at. Example...Movies, it's there on the Home screen and when I go into Movies/List View & Poster View it's there as well. But when I go to Info or Showcase View it switches back to your original graphic. Is this supposed to happen? Those two areas are the main view I want to use for Movies. For TV Shows and Pictures it shows your graphic in Showcase View while Music and Games it shows my graphic in Showcase View (all other views for all four show my graphic).
In Movies/Info view the black info box, to the right of the DVD box, flickers on and off sporadically (do not see this in other views).
Date and Time location...I don't care either way but if you were taking a vote, I'd say it should be in the top left. The eye travels left to right, top to bottom and it just seems odd with that space empty, especially in the Home screen.
Lower Home Scroller position....I love it! But as I said above, the Date & Time would look better up on top (graphic flipped upside down of course).
Other than some of the animations being a little jerky (same in other skins -- AppleTV issue?) I find this skin just simply amazing. And being a new XBMC user as of just a few weeks ago I'm blown away how this has breathed new life into my AppleTV! Thanks!

your version looks great... really smooth... may use it as default... not sure... i hope u know its relevance... hehehe... nyways... about the fact that it shows (my version) in showcase and info views... because its hard coded into the "disable fanart cycling" option in aeon's feature settings... if u click un-select this option... mine won't show anymore...
for the flickering issue... turn on flicker filter in the screen options, set it to 1 or 2... this should remove that problem... and we're moving to the future of this skin, so new things will pop in as a surprise... some like the new time panel position, others don't, but unfortunately for you, more people like it, so i can't go and change it... plus, it took a while to do, so, backtracking isn't an option... nyways, glad u like the skin... and sorry i can't be overly helpful with requests...
i noticed that in V3 .. while pausing a movie .. now the progress bar appears at the bottom just like i asked for, thx :). However, i sort of miss the info panel that popped up before (in V2). Did you try to maybe have both panel's appear, or does that clutter up the screen a bit too much.?
Also, how do you get that info panel to pop up during playback? When i hit 'I", i get the spec's info at the top (ie, bitrate, fps, frame drop count, etc)
i thought, after u mentioned it, that i've got to think of a logical way of doing things osd wise... so, info shows media info (it's not i that shows info in full screen media on the pc... that shows debug info... there's another button assighned to info for fullscreen info)... any form of navigation including pausing which is a navigation function shows the navigation window with movie navigation info... makes sense doesn't it... and thats why its the way it is... don't fancy having the media info showing when navigation info shows... doesn't make sense to me anymore... although it was an idea at one point... clutters the view too much as you said...

I can't see why you'd want info/i to cause the huge info to show during playback... you can't even see the movie, hehe. The bottom panel makes more sense IMO, to check how much is left in the movie without pausing, and to see all info just pause and read it.
The actor/cast info works perfectly, great job xb2iris and thanks very much! I noticed tonight that the time was getting cut off on the home screen (Thursday Oct 16 10:00 PM, but no PM was showing just ...) so maybe that could be a little wider. Also it seems that words with accents don't show correctly in the font. It looks like there are no international CAPS characters in the font so it shows a lowercase instead, like LéON (lowercase é). MediaStream recently had this problem too, I think the font just needs additional characters?
Also a suggestion, can you add the library counts to each view (total # of items) like MediaStream has? Just a small number in the bottom right corner so we know how many items we're scrolling through.

about the time panel getting cut off... dam... i keep forgetting to change that... will do... its on my todo list... and i'm going to change the home screen font, so hopefully the international accents issue will be cleared up when i do that... and that count exists in most views, just none of the fullscreen views... so, will add it to those views then... maybe just a replica of the letter offset, but somewhere else...
I agree, I'd like to see the info OSD to simply show the title of the video, the movie poster/episode thumb, progress bar, THE CURRENT TIME (clock), and then maybe the controls (bookmarks, pause, stop.. etc).
And perhaps have it just along the bottom of the screen, the floating box in the middle of the screen looks a little silly IMO, because it does block the video. Usually when i hit the info button it's just to see how far along in the video I am and/or to check the current time, or to set a bookmark.
Anyways, again.. I love the skin. Keep up the good work.
changed that osd too many times... not a priority anymore coz i'm finally happy with the way it is... makes sense to me... so, maybe the only thing that'll change there is the graphics for now... if i even choose to look at it again... it works... so, lets be happy with it until it gets priority again... and info buttons should show media info like it does when u click it in the libraries... makes sense to me...

trust me... that delay is perfect... it was way shorter for awhile... something like 500ms... but it started to irritate the heck out of me, because i stop on a movie sometimes by mistake... but yeah... it's been tried... and it wasn't favorable... ;)

don't have the files here, but its something to do with the Fonts.xml and DialogSeekBar.xml... figure it out... I'm not touching xml until I'm back from my holiday... and dropping that delay has very bad concequences... irritating as hell, trust me... tried it and failed...

I've been using Volume III for a few days now, and dam, am I impressed. Everything I wanted for this skin, has been attended to. Your attention to detail is insane! The home screen animation and light crest effect goes so well together, I almost shit myself, every time i see it. The color squemes are punishing to the eyes in the best of ways. Dark and Light combine so well, I can't believe how well you've done. It's starting to look a lot more futuristic, which I believe ur purpose was. Using the skin, is smooth and free of glitches, even on my best friends xbox. The Info view is highly impressive and has finally got me away from the showcase view. It's brilliantly done, and the wall info panels adds a well needed twist. I love the touches you've made to make things more interesting. The two-wall info was a surprise. Good Idea! Above all, the OSD feels great and the animation suits every window in there.
Amazing release XB2IRIS! What more can we expect of you! This is amazing. This is what everyone wanted Aeon to become. Thanks so much for everything. You're a creative genius!

TY! It's splendid, and to think I've been stuck with MediaStream over the last few months. It's a bit too cluttered in my opinion. Works amazing, but hasn't got that edge this mod has, you know the edge a skin needs to make even the most critical of XBMC users raise their eyebrows in amazement!
This skin forum is so hidden away. Took me awhile to spot it, but thank God I did! Can't you make it easier to find. Put it up on the hierachy of forums. Maybe where the skins categories show!

I also find it really easy to make a KIDS section. Just rename MOVIES or CLIPS to KIDS in Strings.xml and put all your kids movies in the Movies/Clips folder and you're done.
I like the new date-panel at the main page. But I would like to disable it for all other views. I'm using the file view, and the date-panel still looks the same as before. If it is changed in the library view, then maby you could change it the same in the file view? Or make a new option to "only show date panel at main page" or something like that. Or tell me what file to look in to manually remove it from other pages. Thanks.

I also find it really easy to make a KIDS section. Just rename MOVIES or CLIPS to KIDS in Strings.xml and put all your kids movies in the Movies/Clips folder and you're done.
Probably me been a bit thick but I can't find strings.xml. In the last version I edited CLIPS to KIDS in homescroller.xml but for the life of me I cannot find it in this version.

Great Mod...X...I've been trying it and I like it a lot. The ONLY thing that bugs me is the TV shows "filmstrip" image that surrounds each thumbnail...I dont think from a design perspective that it fits the smoothness of the rest of the skin.

I've been using Volume III for a few days now, and dam, am I impressed. Everything I wanted for this skin, has been attended to. Your attention to detail is insane! The home screen animation and light crest effect goes so well together, I almost shit myself, every time i see it. The color squemes are punishing to the eyes in the best of ways. Dark and Light combine so well, I can't believe how well you've done. It's starting to look a lot more futuristic, which I believe ur purpose was. Using the skin, is smooth and free of glitches, even on my best friends xbox. The Info view is highly impressive and has finally got me away from the showcase view. It's brilliantly done, and the wall info panels adds a well needed twist. I love the touches you've made to make things more interesting. The two-wall info was a surprise. Good Idea! Above all, the OSD feels great and the animation suits every window in there.
Amazing release XB2IRIS! What more can we expect of you! This is amazing. This is what everyone wanted Aeon to become. Thanks so much for everything. You're a creative genius!

My friend showed me this skin a few days ago, so I had to download it!
TY! It's splendid, and to think I've been stuck with MediaStream over the last few months. It's a bit too cluttered in my opinion. Works amazing, but hasn't got that edge this mod has, you know the edge a skin needs to make even the most critical of XBMC users raise their eyebrows in amazement!
This skin forum is so hidden away. Took me awhile to spot it, but thank God I did! Can't you make it easier to find. Put it up on the hierachy of forums. Maybe where the skins categories show!

I like the new date-panel at the main page. But I would like to disable it for all other views. I'm using the file view, and the date-panel still looks the same as before. If it is changed in the library view, then maby you could change it the same in the file view? Or make a new option to "only show date panel at main page" or something like that. Or tell me what file to look in to manually remove it from other pages. Thanks.
didn't know it was that easy to change the sections... and all that... haven't even wiffed in that direction during the creation process, so thanks for letting me know its not that hard... about the time panel... i'm using the same one in library and file mode... its no different to the way it was in volume 2... didn't want to change it, because the home screen is a different element to the sections it links to... didn't want a uniform feel between the two... wanted it to be two seperate feels... hope that makes sense... may add an option to disable it on the other sections besides the main page... look into it when i get the time ok...

I think HORIZONZ has found a new light and has moved in a completely different direction to Aeon, and with Aeon changing to Stark, maybe it's time Horizonz be given it's own forum with XB2IRIS as the admin.
I've noticed so many people posting help topics about Horizonz in this forum, and I don't think DJH would appreciate it having to look at topics about a completely different skin or whats its called at present a mod.
Show me a single mod with +-500 posts and 3 versions. That doesn't exist! So, how would we go about getting Horizonz its own skin topic? XB2IRIS, have you looked into it yet?

that leaving the backdrop idea, is a bit impossible to implement because backdrop cycling is based off a timer and changes after that timer is complete... wish it were possible, because that would make showcase so much more stable in my opinion... if fanart isn't used, disable the use fanart for movies option is aeon feature settings... thats should sort the issue out i hope... about the highlight in showcase... yeah, was thinking of changing the color, but we'll see what happens when i start editing again...
will enjoy the holiday, i leave this week... but i'll be around here until then to help out as best as i can... and to add stuff to my todo list... l8r dude...

can you make the default (black) menu less transparent? It is difficult read when there is a dark background.
Also, alternative borders... please. DVD & CD cases are not really needed (and in some cases even appropriate) with much content no longer coming from "disc" ... plus I think the skin is 100% sleek, with exception of the 'cases'. At least give us the option to have a "normal" border.

For someone doing all this on thier own I totally commend and congratulate you. I know how hard it was creating mediastream with a team of people, let alone on your own.

Thanks so much Mike... i much appreciate that... can't believe this is ur default, a proud moment i must say... thanks for getting the fact that this is a solo mission, wish i had a team behind me, but until now, i find it more controllable... no idea how you guys deal with the entirety of having different people with different ideas working on one skin... but i get that things can be done a lot quicker and there'd be more time to concentrate on bugs and issues... but we'll see, a few guys are helping out with small bits and pieces, and its great having the help...

It never deserved to be a skin that people visited as a pit stop for Aeon itself. It deserved to be classified on its own merits.
It's quality and shere completeness deserves a reputation of its own. I know it'll be less easy to find for most of the regulars, but now, we can all have a stop in the Horizonz forum instead of the Aeon forum!
Keep up the good work, and please, support this skin, and don't let it become a stalemate like so many other skins out there who occationally gets a post or visit! I count one post since the forum change. Lets support our skin guys!

What size are your backdrops? Also i'm wondering what filetype you use.
I'm using Horizonz on a good-old xbox also and i've changed my backdrops to 1280x720 in BMP format. All works smooth for me.

Hi X2biris...let's see if I can get the info down for you:
1) I think that the thumbnail surround in the tvshows section needs to be exchanged with something else...it doesn't fit the glass 'feel' to the skin. Some more akin to a glass 'pane' might be better!
2) Is there any chance of having an option to turn off the 'roller' in the song list section...I don't see a need for this if all the tracks are on the same album...you just get a roller with the same album cover time and again.
3) In the movies showcase view...the animation is a bit 'jerky' when moving from the fanart and info 'moment' to moving to another movie (side scrolling), and this is on a 2.0ghz mac mini...I would hope it could be smoother

I've got a strange problem here:
- I'm using XBMC Beta 2 with an Xbox
- The fanarts are downloaded automaticaly from the scrapper.
When I installed Horizinz volume I, everything was working perfectly
I'm trying now to use Horizonz Volume II or III but for those version, I can't manage to have the fanart working properly.
- TV show: In info or showcase, the fanarts doesn't display at show level, only at season or episode level.
- Movies: Fanart display only if I stay long enough on the selected movie.
I've unchecked "daisable backdrop..." to have my backdrops showed when I'm browsing my movies but from time to time, I still get the frey backgorund design.
I've tried everything, new installation, reset all settings, delete guisettings, ....
Can anyone help me ?

u using an xbox i take it... should work fine, and it does take 3 seconds or so for fanart to show as per normal... ur getting the grey backdrop because it is behind the fanart and backdrops in case people using xboxes get memory issues, which i believe ur getting... it works really well on the xboxes i've tested thus far... they are using smaller backdrops than u though and their fanart is smaller than 1280x720 as well... still looks exactly the same as it would if they were using 720p backdrops... but i get yah, and problems like this are bound to happen on an xbox or two... there've been a few others with memory issues, and most reports are working just fine... no idea what u can do besides follow memory freeing tutorials around this forum... i put the disable backdrop cycling option in there for people with memory issues... and for people who think showcase should show off a specific show or movie and not their collection... hope u can sort it out, coz its sad its working on so many xboxes and not on urs!
What size are your backdrops? Also i'm wondering what filetype you use.
I'm using Horizonz on a good-old xbox also and i've changed my backdrops to 1280x720 in BMP format. All works smooth for me.

Hi X2biris...let's see if I can get the info down for you:
1) I think that the thumbnail surround in the tvshows section needs to be exchanged with something else...it doesn't fit the glass 'feel' to the skin. Some more akin to a glass 'pane' might be better!
2) Is there any chance of having an option to turn off the 'roller' in the song list section...I don't see a need for this if all the tracks are on the same album...you just get a roller with the same album cover time and again.
3) In the movies showcase view...the animation is a bit 'jerky' when moving from the fanart and info 'moment' to moving to another movie (side scrolling), and this is on a 2.0ghz mac mini...I would hope it could be smoother

thanks for the insight mike... (1) will be sorted for next volume, what u think of the universal frame idea? (2) i could do that, but then i'd have to do the same for showcase, icon etc to keep uniformality in viewtypes... don't know if thats too big an issue though... some people like myself use different images for different singles though, so, i wouldn't want to mess my collection up as well... hehehe... selfish me... (3) i know about that jerk when traversing the list... it happens on all systems because of fanart... when changing listitems, the fanart of the next item shows for a split second, which is not avoidable with fade outs and such happening... but i'll look into it nonetheless...

well... yeah, the immediate fanart idea didn't go down to well with the masses, and thus, i decided to remove it... sorry... what u need to do if u want it back... is edit the... MyVideoNav.xml and change the control which is pointing to fanart_image and has Control.IsVisible(899) and Control.IsVisible(57) in its visibility tag... remove the Control.IsVisible(899) from that visibility tag and it should show up immediately... sorry, can't sort it out for u, because my files are unavailable on this computer... hope u can get it to work!!!!

Ah i find some more...sorry....while you are playing a music video and than go back to the home screen. On the left the current playing thumbnail is in the wrong format. You know its like a dvd cover but its wrong, the picture is pressed in the width.
The thumbnails are coming from the mtv scrapper and are generated with the xbmc library mode automatically.
In PM3hd its shown well. I think the decision in aeon between dvd(movie) and music video clip is missing maybe? but the library mode of xbmc makes a difference between that.
A cd cover for music mode for example is more a square and this works in aeon.

Guess 720p is the way to go. Need to get my HD cables so it would look better. Don't get me wrong, it still looks better than any other skin, but yeah, I want that computer quality. Too many games for me to turn my back on the XBOX. If only I could play XBOX games on my computer.

i know... this is not aeon remember... things have been changed a great deal... that's why this forum exists, so i can hear what's wrong with the skin... so thanks for letting me know about that issue... but yeah, its showing in that way because its a musicvideo and i've not worked with them before... but i'll look into it... because i have like a million music videos, but i've never added them because i've been too busy with this skin... but yeah, reckon i'm going to use clips as a music video section...

for the flickering issue... turn on flicker filter in the screen options, set it to 1 or 2... this should remove that problem...
xb2iris - sorry, I've looked through every setting I could find but I could not find this flicker filter setting. This is in regards to my issue of:
"In Movies/Info view the black info box, to the right of the DVD box, flickers on and off sporadically."

its grand to hear that maybe a music video feature will be included to this clip mode and maybe you have once more a good idea to implement a new "clip feature".
I just want to explain that this partymode button could be a fast reachable one in my opinion without toggling through this library mode like in pm3hd. but okay at pm3hd its more usefull to work in file mode with it but maybe in you skin a better way in library mode will be found.
Also fast reachable because this is the only chance to get a really random playing and this everytime partymode will be started and not like this playlist random function which every time it shuffels the files in the same manner.
So good luck with this skin and hopefully fun!!.....i will be back if i found something more...and for sure not only this music video shit:)

That's a cool backdrop, where'd you get it? In fact, maybe a general question to XBMC users since I'm so new to the community is where does one find these cool backdrops people post with their screenshots? Do people share these? Guess I could go off and make my own but so time constrained these days.
small request .. pm3 has the option to have a playlist start on xbmc boot , so it should be easy to make horizonz do the same ? :]

I also find it really easy to make a KIDS section. Just rename MOVIES or CLIPS to KIDS in Strings.xml and put all your kids movies in the Movies/Clips folder and you're done.
I know I'm pulling an old one here, but doing this doesn't give me the Library mode option. Got a fix Markiz? (or anyone)

Loed how it loked in the 1st version of the skin(i.e instant fan arrt backdrop as you navigated thrrough movies/tv shows and would appreciate your help in getting it working in the latest version.

A couple people had asked me for this awhile ago, but I haven't been around.. Been busy dealing with some pretty important things.. (Actually Rock Band 2 came out for Ps3 O:-) )
This fixes Poster view and adds Showcase to both Adult and Clips..
and also adds the Rss feed for the lowered scroller..
I think this will be incorporated into Vol. 4, but in case that's a ways off, here ya go.. :)

When I go to view mode selection I only have 4 possible selections. If you scroll to the end you can select an option to what views are avialable by toggling them on/off. I read somewhere in this thread that this is where you can enable the widecase view. But I dont see it here either! I have tried these things while in movies or TV Shows. Just cant find it. please help.

I just checked and you need to be in library mode for the widecase view to be there.. It's not there for file mode.. It's an easy fix, but I'm not sure If widecase view will be staying or not yet.. He probably doesn't use file mode so it might have been overlooked.. :)

I don't think anyone has anything to worry about widecase being removed.. It's either staying or something cooler (that uses wide icons) will take its place.. He's not going to do away with it if this many people still use it..

if the filename is movie.avi it uses the regular one, if its movie.br.avi it uses the bluray one and when its movie.hddvd.avi it uses the hddvd one?

To be honest though, I'd settle for any show name with unwatched episodes just showing up Bold. Unfortunately this is impossible unless such a feature is implemented in XBMC (DVD/HDDVD/BR flagging).

Fanart did not work in Aeon before it did in others... Aeon was one of the first skins to use high quality backdrops for the different genre, however this isn't "fanart." Fanart for different tv shows had to first be implemented for xbmc...

I wonder why I haven't tested this mod/skin before!
Been using Aeon (which is superb) since may or so, never went back to pm3, but felt that some things were missing. The new Stark will hopefully do the trick when it arrives, although after trying Horizonz I feel everything is exactly how it should be in my mediacenter.
Keep up the good work xb2iris, Horizonz is the best I've seen yet and i totally love it! Beers are on me if you ever visit my city :)

Too all you fans. Spoke to XB2IRIS the other day and he's actually moving oversees. But he said he'd be back up and running in a short while, but moving isn't obviously a quick process, so lets be patient! Great things await us though!

Well, if you haven't heard just yet. I've actually been on the move, not on holiday. You can't hide anything these days, didn't want you guys to think Horizonz would be postsponed for too long! So, i'm in Africa, South Africa to be exact, and lifes great, except I don't have an internet connection at home and it's expensive in terms of the fact that I've spent tons moving and getting all set up on this side. Also, and this is the sucky part, my computer and xbox have seemed to lose themselves on their journey overseas. So I'm stuck with a old piece of rubbish pc and no way of testing any xbox features. So, production will be slow and tedious until I can get an internet connection and faster pc which actually doesn't freeze every few minutes. Send me your money dudes, hehehe, send me ur htpc's, hehehe again. Dam, it sucks to make jokes about these things.
Anyways, thought a bit about the future of this skin over the last two tough weeks, and heres what the future holds. Thanks, by the way, for all your replies on the wide icon poll. Needed to know what was going on in your minds. First things first. What's heading your way for Volume IV! Well, here's the three main things i'll be getting into asap:
- I'm creating a UNIVERSAL FRAME which will replace every other frame in Horizonz. There'll be variations in different views obviously, but it'll still look very similar. The reason for this change, is because Horizonz is lacking uniformity which I am a big fan of. I think I was being too optimistic when I created seperate frames for different sections, because it gave you the oppertunity to complain, which i didn't want, but yes. It'll look good and slick, so try to be nicer when this one hits yah.
- After reading your replies and checking your votes on the Widecase Poll, I had two dilemmas. Many people don't care too much about Banner Icons, because they've moved on with the times, but many do still use it, so I couldn't dissapoint any of the two groups and the third group which is me. So, heres what I have planned. Firstly XBMC allows for 10 viewtypes to be created, so I'm limited! So, for my pleasure, I'm erasing the Widecase view to open up a viewtype slot for a new View to be created, but I will create a variant of the List and Poster Views for a cool new Diagonal Wide Icon Idea I have. So, You wide icon fans will have two views, but unfortunately, no Showcase views for now, because I don't have the time to change that one as well. But that'll be dealt with later on, I hope.
- Last thing, obviously got a lot of other requests to deal with, and they'll be sorted to the best of my ability having a shitty computer and all that. Hope you can bare with me. Thanks a lot for all your support and the extra addons that were made in the time i was gone, and CHIPY, sorry i couldn't check your mod out, but this internet cafe blocks that site. My only comment is that when you changed the language strings I think a couple of mistakes stepped in - The "Screen" settings menu label is missing an R, and the "TV SHOWs" entry has a lowercase s, which is a bit strange.
Still, now that the Watched icon is in place in the frame, the TV shows functionality is a lot more usable, and it's exactly how I hoped it would be... So I really hope X2BIris keeps it when he releases version IV ;)

I'm not sure if this behaviour is by design, but when I'm in info/showcase view in movies and tv shows I only see a standard background fanart poster until the movie information comes into focus after a few seconds. On a previous version of Horizonz that I was running, the poster would change as I scrolled through. I wonder if this is a setting somewhere that I'm missing?
That's the difference between Library and File mode I think.

I noticed the same thing here, but bpth in Aeon and Horizonz! If it weren't for that, I'd use Horizonz as my standard skin instead of MediaStream, which does have that feature. I'm using the latest version of Plex.

i have the same "problem" but only in horizonz in aeon it wont jump back to the default background. would be great if there was an option to that "bug" turn off

Not sure what "bug" you're referring to, as this has been covered before. The lack of instantaneous fanart switching is on purpose, to prevent scrolling speed suffering as the program tries to desperately load one fanart file after another.
Now the program only loads fanart when you've paused over an item for a couple of seconds.

Not sure it's working... at least in Showcase view, the option doesn't seem to make any difference either way.... Also I think you have a spelling mistake in the option itself ("fucused") ;) Oh and the overlay icon seems to have gone missing from Episode view!

Hi again X2biris...another couple of issues I have come across:
1) When updating movie library, the info panel at the bottom tells me it is currently downloading, etc...thats fine. However, when updating the music library, nothing is shown. You kind of have to guess when it's done.
2) When looking at pictures and listening to music at the same time, the Now playing display is situatied at a wierd X/Y coordianates, covering a lot of the photo...this, I would say, is a biggie!

I to am missing the instant fan art fom version 1 and, despite your instructions can't gt it working in the latest version, The fan arrt only appeas when I hoeoer a particular movie or tv show (I am using windows XBMC). Loed how it loked in the 1st version of the skin(i.e instant fan arrt backdrop as you navigated thrrough movies/tv shows and would appreciate your help in getting it working in the latest version.

Sorry X2biris...but I found one further *blip*....
When in info or showcase mode and you scroll from movie to movie, you see the fanart for that movie flashup for a nanosecond, disappear to show the default grey background, then a few seconds later the fanart fades back in again...
...looks a bit wierd actually. Is anyone else seeing this?

that flashup is something thats impossible to get across because of all the animations and so on... happened in aeon as well, and djh couldn't get to the bottom of it either... when listitem changes, listitem.fanart is pointing to the next item for a sec... nothing i can do about it, unless i delay transition, which is impossible i'm afraid...

A couple people had asked me for this awhile ago, but I haven't been around.. Been busy dealing with some pretty important things.. (Actually Rock Band 2 came out for Ps3 O:-) )
This fixes Poster view and adds Showcase to both Adult and Clips..
and also adds the Rss feed for the lowered scroller..
I think this will be incorporated into Vol. 4, but in case that's a ways off, here ya go.. :)

I have downloaded Horizonz v3. Awesome theme! love it! But I too have the issue with the TV shows and wideicons being squashed horizontally. Reading this thread I see there is a widecase view. But I just cant seem to find it or active it. Could someone please help me?
When I go to view mode selection I only have 4 possible selections. If you scroll to the end you can select an option to what views are avialable by toggling them on/off. I read somewhere in this thread that this is where you can enable the widecase view. But I dont see it here either! I have tried these things while in movies or TV Shows. Just cant find it. please help.

i hope that wide banners aren't taken out .. i use them for my tv shows and i REALLY like them .. there are so many other view types that are so similar that can be taken out for example "Poster" "Showcase" "Info" are all very nearly similar at least poster and showcase

not possible yet dude... xbmc doesn't allow that... but a universal frame will be put into Volume IV to avoid people complaining about certain frames... hope u like it when it arrives...

x2biris .. anyway you can either take out Poster view or Showcase instead of widecase for now since they are like nearly the same viewtype (i'd say Poster View) ;)

PLEASE X2BIris, don't forget to include Chipy's watched/unwatched badges for all views, they're utterly indispensable when it comes to TV Shows, and very useful for Movies as well.

I know this was gone over a lot before, but I have to bring it up again because it's the only thing about this skin that constantly bugs me. The UI is really intuitive except for this single thing and it drives me bonkers, hehe. It's the OSD during full screen video playback.
Currently, there are 2 OSD items:
- the "info OSD": Shows poster, title, info about movie, etc.
- the "playback OSD": Shows progress bar, total length, current time
Right now, the playback OSD comes up when you pause and the info OSD comes up when you press "i".
The info OSD is used for checking up on some info about the file that's playing. It's large, it shows up right in the middle of the screen and covers much of the movie, and it contains a bunch of text that I need to take a second to scan through and read. If I'm going to read info off a large dialog that covers much of the screen, I'm probably going to want to pause the movie since I can't see it playing anyway.
The playback OSD is small and unintrusive (bottom of the screen) and displays only 2 things (time elapsed/total time). Forcing me to pause the movie in order to check how much is left is really silly, as this is info that one would commonly wonder while watching a movie. It only takes a second to check the dialog and you can easily continue watching the movie while you look at that dialog. And I definitely wonder how much is left more than I wonder the title/info of the movie I'm watching, haha.
Does anybody else miss having a way to check how much is left in their movie?
IMO there are a 2 ways to use these OSD dialogs that both make more sense than the current one:

I feel the same about the osd. I reckon option 1, adding the progress bar to info view would be the best solution. I dont think switching them makes much sense, after all when you push the info button you expect some info about the movie to be displayed.
I might give this a shot myself actually because having to pause the movie just to see the progress is i bit of a pain.
Anyway , not complaining xb2iris. The skin is shit-hot.

I'd love to see this feature...just make sure to default-map it to the xbox controller for us old-skoolers. :D

on my htpc (running plex) .. but by default it seems since V3 that 't' is keymapped to pull up the info panel .. 'i' pulls up the debug panel .. and 'o' pulls up the progressbar panel

I've mentioned this before, Xb2iris' response was this
changed that osd too many times... not a priority anymore coz i'm finally happy with the way it is... makes sense to me... so, maybe the only thing that'll change there is the graphics for now... if i even choose to look at it again... it works... so, lets be happy with it until it gets priority again... and info buttons should show media info like it does when u click it in the libraries... makes sense to me...

i like it the way it is... info should be about checking what u watching... ever used sattelite tv... yes... it takes up most of the screen... but its info... people pause a movie to go to the toilet, not to read about the movie... i like it the way it is, and i guess i gotta like a few things about my creation now... c'mon... through me a bone here...

I finally got off my bum and tried this today and I notice it has no seek slider in dialogseekbar.xml (or it doesn't show) so you can't tell where you are up too with analog seeking (xbox controller stick)

ouch, ur a nasty sounding chap aren't u... at least in tone... but yeah... like i said... i'll look into it... but i really don't get what u mean... because when you seek, the navigation bar pops up and shows where ur seeking... no idea what ur talking about and why only a few people, or two, have mentioned it before... don't u think more people would complain if they couldn't see where they were in a movie when seeking... wish bru... wish i knew how to put a smile on your face... theres no progress bar on the info page... there is a nav bar which pops up with a progress bar, when any seeking (fast forward, skip backward, pause) is done... so, hmmm... whats the problem???

Hey, welcome back XB2IRIS. Great to have you on here again updating on a regular basis. Hope Volume IV is making in roads thus far and I really can't wait, and Jezz_X, i see a progress bar with time information when seeking or doing anything nav related, so what u on about. It works.
Ok first of xb2iris sorry if I sounded negative it was not my intention I'm just saying if your so much against it don't add it for just me because I don't use Horizons anyway.
Second I think we are all thinking about the different things at least rectifier is.
Seeking is what you do with analog sticks like the the thumbsticks on an xbox controller. Not pushing the left/right buttons on a remote or FF RW
Here is what I mean from the original Project Mayhem III skin
Notice the little yellow nib at the end of the progress bar in the first one

* Then as you seek in the second one (with a analog controller) the nib detaches from the progress bar and shows you the point to which you are seeking too in the progress.
* Once you finsh seeking the progress bar jumps to the spot the nib was at (screencap 3)
* Screenshot 4 shows trying to seek back into the bits allready played before it jumps to the spot.
Now my point was Horizons does not have this nib so its impossible to tell what part you are seeking to with a anoalog controller whether that be a xbox controller on an xbox or a ps3 or xxbox360 controller on linux version.
P.S. I also noticed while testing just then the progress bar it self doesn't show outside the main fullscreen video window. Which I guess it what you all thought I was talking about. But it was not
Cool cool jezz... totally get yah now... that sounds like a grand feature to add... coz, obviously, never knowing it existed, sounds even mopre useful although, i have no idea how to test...
Lost my XBOX and HTPC in shipping when moving across the world a few feeks back... so, testing this bitch would a mission on the stinker on a pc i'm using until i get outta my shell of moving expenses i've created... seems that xbmc throughs tons on errors when i do certain things in fullscreen video mode... like opening options windows kills the xbmc process... which sucks... nyways... how would i get to testing this beast of a feature on my pc... keymap.xml ideas for me??? and is there a way of ridding myself of those crashes when in fullscreen video, so i can actually do some stuff i want to without destroying xbmc???

Hey xb2iris... first of all... i can't tell u how impressed i am with this skin, i've tried loads of different skins and never found one i am as happy using everyday as this one... it's fantastic... can't wait to see what new features come in the next release.
For now, i only have one question... i am using it on my xbox and i have my video share setup with the thumbnails for the dvd cases and fan art in the background. However, when i'm in showcase and skipping through films, the fan art appears for a second, goes away and then fades back in... i love the fact it waits so i can scroll through vids quicker but i was wondering if there is any way to stop it showing for that second before disappearing?
Hope all that makes sense to you. And i hope you can help. If you can just tell me which setting(s) to change in which xml file(s) then i will happily make the change myself.

What do you think about beefing up the Visualizations OSD more to allow for controlling settings in Milkdrop more? Enable hard cuts/threshold and all of that stuff?
Other thought was for the little letter that pops up when scrolling to tell you where you are...what if you added an option or something to make it the first two letters if you wanted? I dunno how involved that would be, but it would be really cool to be able to do in a larger library.

that fanart second issue is a bug that is hard as hell to remove, i've tried a few times and it doesn't go away... its there because when u treverse the list, the controller is pointing to the next item and shows its fanart for a second before it fades... and theres no way of getting by this for now... wish i knew how... so, for now, we all have to deal with it... happened it aeon as well and has continued since then, to hamper many indivisuals, like myself... but we'll see... maybe it'll get sorted one day...

wish any of that could be done dude... but they can't... for instance... visualisation settings are coded in xbmc not the skin, so what u see, is what u get... all i did it code defaults so every setting takes the default and displays that way... no control over which actual things show up... and for the second one... the letter scroller is limited to one letter... no idea if its possible to add a second, but i'll look into it... nyways... hope ur doing well... haven't heard from u in an age...

Are you sure about that? I could have SWORN that there used to be a really slick OSD for PMIII which would give you quite a bit of control over Milkdrop. I know there was. There was an option to "enable Stereo 3D", which would make the visualizations turn, well, 3D with glasses. I know I'm not making this up...just dunno what skin it was in. Pretty sure it was PMIII...
Myself...I'm doing well. Having some problems with the local authorities ATM, but nothing that can't be dealt with...

just wondering whether it would be possible to get an option for more home screen shortcuts (like in Aeon for Adult and Clips)? I ask this because I have modded an old Aeon build to show Foreign films and Documentaries... but I just changed the text after enabling Clips and Adult.
On Horizonz, you don't have those options... is it possible you might be able to add two moddable shortcuts to the homescreen that can be toggled on or off (for people who may/may not have any use for it)? I know when I offered the 'mod' I did, it got about 200 downloads - so I know there's a few people out there who like Documentaries (and also Foreign Films) to show up on their home screens, next to Movies and TV Shows.

Not sure if this is the right answer or the one you are looking for. I have a section called KIDS on the homescreen so I can put all the cartoons and stuff there. What I did was edit the strings.xml (found in the language folder) and changed CLIPS to KIDS.

hahaha... good guess... yeah, i'm in cape town... living it up and all that... hectic, u wanna send me an xbox... lord... eish (there u go)... nyways... unfornately, don't think that kind of effort is neccessary dude... i completely appreciate it though... but i reckon it would be too much of a hassle for u... and 2 tell u the truth, it'd be real hard using one here with the lack on in-expensive broadband in this country... so, rigging a testing system would be a mission until i get some money for extra goodies...
to tell u the truth cranial... the pc i've been editing horizonz on has just died on me... i borrowed it from a mate, it was old and didn't make 5 minutes in XBMC without freezing the system... so, i'm outta editing right now... need a pc... and can't get one until feb, due to me having to replace more important things i lost in the shipping and sorting this expensive move out... i may set up a paypal account for donations soon, so i can get a pc sooner rather than later... i don't know if it's a good idea, but i so badly want to get volume IV out in december instead of feb or later... what u think??? u think anyone would donate money to saving this skin?

all aeon's features in that case are similar... i haven't changed a thing about it, just numbers instead of labels now, but i guess i could look into it at a later stage... don't have a pc to do editing on at the moment... so, i'm dead for awhile... but we'll see if it can be done in a future build...

that sounds great... decided to go ahead with the donation idea, coz having a month off doing nothing because of my lack of hardware will kill me and will most possibly make me lose my momentum horizonz wise... which wouldn't be good... i hope are as willing to help out as you are... Volume IV is going to be a huge update... lots of things needed sorting out and a few things needed changing... managed to do alot before the meltdown happened... and i believe, with an okayish PC, wouldn't take more than a week or so to finish... so, i'll put the save horizonz topic up... can't see me getting back into it february or so... thats a long wait if you ask me... i want a stable Volume V out at that time if you get what i mean... thanks again for the offer and support... and i totally get what you mean about favours and all that... and don't mention the internet connection here... pointless getting one without a PC anyhow... hope some peops are as kind as you... donate to horizonz... sounds funny if you ask me, but i'm that desperate to get this thing to the next level... eish

I've found a small bug.
I got a little bored of the grey background so changed it to something new manually in the Aeon settings. All worked fine except TV shows which now only ever shows black, even though in the background settings it shows the right thumbnail. Tried different BG and always the same for TV shows.
Also, where is the default grey background stored? That way I can just overright the file ad change all at once.
I am not sure if this is desgin, system limitation or bug, but when scrolling through movies it takes a second or two for the background to be changed to the background of the movie (fan art).
Would it be possible ot configure the system to not have this delay? IE when scolling movies (or any other media with fan art), the wallpaper would immediately change to that of the selected item. If the item is left untouched, its info pops up (like it does now).
This is relevant to the "Info" and "Showcase" views.

Edit; On that note, would it be possible to force XBMC to download all fan art that is availible for an item (movie, TV show, etc) and display a different one, randomly? The box art would have to stay the same, to avoid confusion, of course.

thats not a bug, its just a glitch in the way this thing is made... if a black backdrop is shown, it's because an empty folder is assigned to the set Tv background folder... and since folder orientated backdrops take preference... its overhauling the single backdrop u've used for tv shows... so, click on the change tv folder backdrop, then exit the browse window, and the change tv folder will change to clear tv folder or something like that... click it again... and then set the single backdrop u'd want to use... that should work... but, u can always reset all horizonz settings... thats would definately work... hehehe...

this is based off of Aeon .. which was created specifically as a HD-only skin .. hence this "mod", which will prolly be in reality what djh meant as Aeon "Classic" but since its SOOOO good (thx x2biris) we don't call it a mod anymore but rather Horizon, is also HD-only

nope, can't be done, because its hardcoded into animation effects and so on... so, that wouldn't be possible... the only way you can get what you wanted is by customizing that animation... i'll explain in the other forum topic... or at least, not having the code anywhere close (no pc)... i'll try to out of my head...

there is a way, but it's not a good idea, trust me, it looks rather untidy without the frames... that will never cut it with the masses, so i don't think i'd be able to include it in a release, but u can customize it yourself, by going through CommonContent.xml, FullscreenViews.xml and WallViews.xml and removing which ever frame <image> tag you want... the listitem.thumb image tags are the thumbnails though... so good luck with that if u chose to go and tweak it... sorry i can't help out any better...

this is based off of Aeon .. which was created specifically as a HD-only skin .. hence this "mod", which will prolly be in reality what djh meant as Aeon "Classic" but since its SOOOO good (thx x2biris) we don't call it a mod anymore but rather Horizon, is also HD-only

With the donation tab closed and all that controversy behind us... I'm here to inform you of the Future of Horizonz!
Firstly, Horizonz is still a mod of Aeon, and will remain so until it is near completion... which will be soon enough... after this, developement will begin the bridge off in another direction... this direction will be more graphically orientated, with a more original look and feel to set Horizonz apart from its parent skin... i.e. similar to the concept of Aeon Stark... I few things will change, but the overall idea will remain, with a facelift... I hope that sounds as exciting to you as it does to me... I've been taking requests and opinions for quite a long time now, and what this tactic has employed is a better knowledge of what you guys want, so I can put together a slick and more user friendly skin based on your perspectives... if you get what I mean...
Anyways, still sitting without a computer so Volume IV is obvioulsy delayed until I'm able to get my hands on one. Your donations are still very welcome and can help a lot in changing my current status, but obviously, I've come across as being a bit too excited about getting back up and running, and in such, I've forgotten about the ethics of xbmc... and for that I apologize to everyone! Obviously, I'm addicted to skinning!

i take the shots in a local internet cafe which has photoshop pre-installed... costs me a pound per hour, but i guess thats alright... so, what happens is that i've persuaded the manager to allow me to install xbmc, because it usually says ur not a administrator... so, all i do is copy the latest copy of horizonz onto the pc along with my backed up user data folder... and wella, i can take screenshots... but yes, some of the pictures are mocked versions, just a simple cut and paste process with my backup up psd files... unfortunately, horizonz isn't very stable right now, coz i was trying something with the osd's which screwed them up the last time i was messing about... also, most of the stuff u see, as i said are mockups because either their half finish or done but not functioning right... but i'll sort then out when i get the chance... nyways... i'll put something new up tomorrow... its gonna take me a while to do, but yeah, mockups are like that and will look similar to the screeners... hope u like em... tomorrows update isn't major, but it makes sense based on some inconsistencies in precious volumes... let me know what u think after u seem em... small but eligant i hope...
As we all know, DIALOGS have become quite important in XBMC, and as such, has, in theory, been given a complete overhaul. Due to many inconsistencies across Horizonz in the dialog system, I've come up with an idea to rid the skin of overlapping issues and multiple dialogs showing up at the same time causing confusion and making the skin a nightmare at times. Also, certain dialogs were missing and others didn't suit the experience altogether.
The result of numerous dialog-orientated requests was a fully animated priority based Universal Dialog System, represented in the following illustration, some complete and others elaborated for future development (Took me around 45 minutes to process these screenshots, but I wish I could have done more). Take note that all dialogs now find themselves in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

The priority system works as follows. Dialogs were given a hierachy of importance, and in such, should eliminate most ineffieciencies i.e. one dialog will display at a time, and if a dialog with higher preference is called upon, it will, slide into view after the other slides out of view. At the moment, the Player Control takes preference, whilst the Object Count / Offset Dialog has the lowest. Also, decided to add a progress bar to certain Dialogs so the waiting without knowing how long issue could be avoided.
However, issues are bound to pitch up, so I'll leave it to you to report them to me when Volume IV arises.

Just donated a few hours ago, sorry I took so long, had to verify my account. Anyways, Screenshots look amazing. I was wondering when those Dialogs were going to be dealt with. But that's such a good idea. Do they slide in and out like the time panel?
Anyhow, like the fact that your trying to finish this Horizonz before you branch! Thats good. Gives you more time to concentrate on the look. Hey, hows it doing recruiting that guy from devianart to do Horizonz graphics? I adore his gallery. 34 Daily Deviations is crazy, but he's the best designer I've come across in an age. How far away does he stay from you?

CANCEL BUTTONS ON THE DIALOGUES! FINALLY!!
Whew...got that out of the way.
The dialogues are beautiful. I see that the letter view is the only one devoid of some kind of progress bar...what about having a bar there to reflect how far through the entire collection the person is?
Just a thought. Either way, I like the little attention to detail you're putting into everything. The subtle stuff is what everybody notices but can't quite put their finger on...
So what do you mean when you say "make it more graphic-oriented"?

make sure you extracted Vol. 3 properly
into your skin dir .. put the horizon dir .. and that the horizon dir inside has a 720p etc
lot of times you get the horizon's dir (which has the 720p dir etc) inside another parent horizon's dir ;)
xb2iris, what a brilliant idea for those dialogs. Dynamically changing dialogs, cool! Also like the way you integrated the progress bar. Very clean and sexy.

Sorry if I'm being silly, but does anyone know how to change:
1) When in Wall view, the colouration of the thumbs. Id rather cover art wasn't greyed out.
2) The size of the zooms of the cover art when they are highlighted?

I just thought I would share what other forums on the net have been requesting of Horizonz. I have been a member of NVNews.net forums for almost 5 years and some of the members there are loving Horizonz. Here is what nekrosoft13 has to say:
just two things would make this skin a lot better.
1) an easier way to tell what mode you are in, so people don't get lost again
2) wide icon support, I have all my TV shows set up with wides icons, to much work switching over
edit: added few things that need to be done
3) need to add better font, current won't display certain forgein characters
4) need to add notification which clips have been watched already
5) back (up) and all seasons icons need to be different from other non-thumbs icons

Kingsley, if you use the library mode the info will pop-up after a few seconds when selecting a movie/tv show.
Steps to take:
- in filemode set the content for the map which includes your movies/tvshows
- pick a scraper, for example imdb for movies and tvdb for tv shows
- scan for new content (info, cover and fanart are scraped)
- go into librarymode
Now select a movie and voila after a few seconds the info window will pop up! :nod:
