get what ur saying... are we're talking about the section which has the folder hierachy (genres, title, and so on) where default icons are displayed in the frames... because at the moment, i can't find a way of putting backdrop cycling in there without messing up other things in the skin... i struggled with that for ages, and kinda gave up... is that what u mean? because in the movies and tv shows sections, when the "backdrop disable" function is disabled... backdrops will always show up behind fanart, unless an image isn't loaded due to memory issues (grey backdrop will show then, because i don't like black screens)... i've tried backdrop cycling on 6 systems, and grey backdrop only shows on my mates system when memory issues occur... which is really rarely anyways... so, i'm i on the right track here?
OK I went and double-checked and here's what I found. It's actually the Info view, not Showcase, that is causing the problems. As well, in Info view when it shows fanart and you switch to the next item, the fanart is instantly replaced by a grey screen which then fades into the next fanart (instead of one fanart fading to the other).

In the "List" Viewtype .. anyway to make it a little more opaque .. so that more of the background comes though ??

i like how in the Wall you put the title of the movie into blank boxes (movies without poster's) .. i was playing around with Showcase view and its not implemented there .. just yet ;)
no problemo dude... that's why it took so long...
the option is in the features section of aeon settings... it's enabled by default... disable it and backdrops should show up behind your movie fanart...
and about the "info" banner view... xbmc only allows ten views, so, i'm overloaded... sorry man... had to chose one view for banners, and showcase was the obvious... maybe i'll add it to the "info" view at a later stage... so, we'll see...

i think that's a plex issue if i'm not mistaken
played around with visibility on those frames, but they're slightly transparent already... not the cd frame so much... didn't want the background to overwelm the frames as it did when i increased the transparency... won't change for now... thanks for the feedback though
will look into it... i'll try different transparencies, but if its doesn't look better, i'm not gonna change it...

Yes the info view is fantastic, it's the reason I use Horizonz! I think it should work just like Showcase, like you said. I await the next version! :0)

well, i put that in there for one reason, there's no way of identifying any item in the wall if it doesn't have a thumbnail... in showcase... there's a label at the bottom... so, no point :)

yeah, i know... i like the width of that panel at the moment, but some text doesn't fit in, which i know, is a pain... i'll adjust it when i build up the courage to change something i like... hahaha

A few more observations I found from using the skin tonight:
- The "info" button (i I think?) does nothing during fullscreen video playback ... on other skins it brings up the OSD that shows the time remaining in the movie. I use this all the time to see how much time is left in the movie without fast forwarding/pausing.
- Is it possible to make it so when you scroll quickly through Info/Showcase views it displays the letter that you're currently on? It's hard to catch the titles as they whip by.
Also somebody mentioned that the pause menu should show OSD on the bottom with the time remaining - I'd suggest that pause should show BOTH on-screen displays. Showing the one in the middle of the screen with the thumbnail, title, etc. as well as the one along the bottom the time remaining would be a great setup IMO.
And this is purely a feature idea (the skin works fine without it): is it possible to, instead of a scrollbar, have a tiny horizontal alphabet at the bottom of Showcase/Info view and allow you to scroll horizontally by picking a letter? Being able to jump straight to 'N' would be really handy, for example, especially for people with large libraries. I've never seen a skin do this before so maybe it's not possible but I thought it can't hurt to ask :0)
well, the context menu has nothing to do with the skin... it's xbmc which specifies which buttons show up where on the context menu, the skin just specifies how it looks... the shutdown menu and the menu with sort by/viewytpe are skin defined... don't think it's an aeon/horizonz issue...
I swapped over to the PMIII skin and I can fetch up the context menu and highlight the 'manual' button but try as I might I just cannot highlight it using the Horizonz skin. Using PMIII I can scroll down the list of tv shows/movies that have been fetched up and choose one to grab the relevant info, or a quick left or right on the dvd remote highlights the 'manual' button should I need to find a different tv show or movie. When I use the Horizonz skin all It lets me do is scroll up or down or choose a show from the list. I'll try later tonight to compare xml files to see if there's a difference.

yeah, i was just looking into the info thing on video osd due... totally forgot about that... will be there next time... i'll look into the letter display thingy for showcase and info views... not sure how it'll look, but yeah, sounds interesting... the pause menu osd combination is already sorted... so, that's in...
And finally, that last request is really interesting... don't know how to create it, but it sounds really interesting... and actually good... i'll try a few things... if it don't work, i ain't gonna stress...

there's a lot of diffences in the xml dude... but yeah, really thought that that would be in there... but yeah, maybe i'm overlooking something... i'll give it a look... well, whatever u find out on ur mission, let me know so my look doesn't need to be to long... but i'll look into it for next release... ok

I love the new OSD system. For me, that was the best part of the last release. Especially the animation effects in it. That was a bonus, on top of all the user requests. I like surprises. So what's next?

xb2iris, i was looking at the OSD that comes up when you pause a movie. I know i mentioned that it should also bring up the one from the bottom that shows "how far into the movie" you are. Well .. i was looking at it .. and i know you mentioned you didn't like it from the bottom and thats why you left it out. and i would have to agree now with you .. however i might have a compromise. In the current OSD that comes up, below Runtime there is plenty of space left, why not just put in the "how far into the movie you are with a time bar, hh:mm:ss left in movie, hh:mm:ss total file length" in that space .. i think it should fit .. whatcha think ??

that's how the old osd was... but had an issue... wanted that middle panel to be an info section... wanted all navigation information to be displayed on the bottom one... so, i killed the progress bar and time frame on the middle panel... guess because of that, i'll just do what you first suggested except i'll let the info panel show up when the info button is pressed... makes sense... but i ain't putting posters and so on on the nav panel... defeats the purpose... hope u like that idea... maybe i'll let both show up when its paused... first see what it looks like...

Haven't really dealt with any of the requests i've got just yet... working on something poetic... something interesting... something familar... u'll just have to wait and see how it comes out... guess it's time horizonz spreads its wings a little and flies a little closer to the horizon... don't u think!

Just wanted to say thanks for this amazing skin! I'm only using file mode - and everything is really smooth. Also thanks for putting back the showcase views!
A question: I have a folder for every movie. Every folder has a movie.avi and a folder.jpg. Members of my family find it hard to start movies. They click on the movie they want to see. And there are only a .avi file there. But they see a long list of default-images - since they are repeated. And ".." has the same default-image as the .avi-file.
Would it be possible to do this kind of scenario a little more user friendly? Maby you could reuse the folder.jpg for all files, excluding the ".." image? Or maby you could do a specific image for every playable file (.avi etc).
I think there should be some kind of indication of which files that are playable and which that are not.

would love to help you out... sounds like a pain in the ass... but yeah, i have no idea how to specify a different icon for different things like (..) for instance... i've included a lot of default icons, but they're section specific, not file specific... don't know if there's a way of specifying icons for the situations you're talking about... wish i knew, so i could help you, but i've created icons for everything in the textures.xpr file i believe to be default icons... no idea, what more i can do... sorry bud... glad u like the skin though...

I only have one thing to say. I've looked at a lot of forums for a lot of different websites (including xbmc obviously) and Xb2iris is hands down the nicest, fastest and most dedicated programmer/skinner/creater I've seen.

I'm having a problem with this skin on the xbox....looks beautiful but wont play any of my avis , although when I select another skin the file plays ....have been trying to sort it out for days but aint getting anywhere with it...I have atlantis beta 1..anyone shed some light on this ?

don't know if thats an horizonz issue... movies are working on the two xbox's i've used it on... but i have come across out of memory, system not able to play video issues on xboxes... but that was on the old aeon skin... does it work when u play movies on a low memory view such as list???? if it does, then its a memory issue and suggest u disable fanart cycling in the aeon features menu... if not, im really not sure... as cranial mentioned... more details would be good?
hard to figure an issue out when u've never come across it before... tell us more... no idea for now :sniffle:

Finally got an account. Happy to say that I've been through many skins, but this one is far the best xbmc skin.
I know this a mod, but since day 1, it's been heading in exactly the right direction, unlike it's father skin. No other skin has as much to offer in my opinion. Not too impressed with the progress been made on aeon stark at the moment, but don't get me wrong, it'll be hard to beat when it comes out. One the other hand, this skin has been developed in exactly the right environment.
Firstly, reading this thread, user input is of the utmost importance. The first release was very stable and ultra-usable, with most of the incomplete features in aeon being available and done just right (how does a skin get such an amazing reputation without a working osd). Secondly, in my opinion, many old features have been revamped based on user input, which is really important. More...

Downloaded Volume 2 during the week, and like i said before, user input was the centre of attention, with most of the requests being dealt with and dealt with very well.
And above all, you reply to every single post directed at you, which i believe most of the people on this forum would agree, is amazing. C'mon guys, say thank you, XB2IRIS has been an amazing. He create a mod for himself, shared it with us and helped us give his skin a more personal touch. I salute you!
Anyways, due to the fact that you've spent so much time working on something for us, I've decided to spend a few minutes saying WELL DONE on putting this amazing skin together. Thanks again and I hope more peolple would acknowledge your hard work. Never come across a skinner who works so hard!

WOW... great to hear man... i much appreciate it... it is time consuming working on it, but it's well worth knowing I'm making the most of AEON, my fave skin on XBMC. And, user input is really important, because, even though i don't use most of the stuff that ends up not working properly, i may just use it one day, and i'd like it to work when that day comes... plus, i take it, lots of people like aeon like me, and can't stand the fact that so many things just don't work, or partially work. Nice to correct that issue.
But anyways, thanks for those comments... nice to know someone appreciates the time spent on this project. Thanks a lot and i hope you like the next release.

good 2 know... not sure whats going on with that... i know that happens on my mates xbox, but it happens on pm3 and other skins for him as well... not sure what the issue is... lets just say... check ur debug info... sometimes xbmc has memory leaks that cause that... my htpc froze an age ago, and i checked my debug info and solved the issue... had nothing to with mediastream, even though i thought it did at first... hope u can figure it out because it's a shame...
After being all happy with Horizonz, I just found out it was missing something crucial. Being a Dutchman I'm used to watching movies with subtitles. These subtitles are not always in sync and by watching the counter in xbmc's OSD and the program "timeadjuster" I'm always able to get this corrected....

first, let me thank you for an amazing mod of the AEON skin. I have one issue though that Iäm unable to solve. When I click on TV Shows or Movies, the default background is shown (the black/grey one that is provided with your mod) and not the one that I have selected.
The selected background works fine in the home menu, but it returns to the default when I go into Movies or TV Shows.
The strange thing is that this only is a problem when I am using the Showcase or Info view. I have changed both the default image and folder in setting. (The Fanart is showing correctly btw)

With AVI movies, how do you get custom poster art to show up? For example, if I go under "TV Shows" and I have a folder for "Entourage Season 4" (with custom poster art jpg in the folder), why does it not show up?

those aren't pics from my mod, but i'll help u anyways... for the first question... by poster art, are we referring to the pictures of the poster covers or fanart? both can be manually changed by using the info button and pressing either the "get thumb" or "get fanart" and assigning which ever image you want to it... that's for tv shows...
for the second question... custom poster art for movies... same as above, except if you want the fanart to work for movies, u need to rename the jpg file as follows...
movie.avi - where movie is the name of the movie
movie-fanart.jpg - where movie is the same name as above
for the third question... to get the scroller bar to the bottom of the screen... go to aeon settings and chose the "lower home screen position" option from the Home Screen section.

Well I really had no idea what I was doing, but I decided to mess with the Adult/Clips poster view not working, since that's what I use for kids and anime.. ( and I'm impatient and like to know how things work) and it just looked like it was completely missing in the poster section of CommonContent.xml. Made a few guesses and Poster view is now working for me again..
Now I'm happy :grin:
Everything in XBMC is translated, except the main menu. This seems to be an issue with Aeon/Horizonz, since menus in other skins are translated.
Would it be possible to add translations for the menu in the next version of your (fantastic!) mod?

Everything in XBMC is translated, except the main menu. This seems to be an issue with Aeon/Horizonz, since menus in other skins are translated.
Would it be possible to add translations for the menu in the next version of your (fantastic!) mod?
no idea what that means... but i'll look into it... it may be something that needs to be added manually... so i'll look into it for you, and yes, if i final a solution... it'll be in the next release...

WOW... great to hear man... i much appreciate it... it is time consuming working on it, but it's well worth knowing I'm making the most of AEON, my fave skin on XBMC. And, user input is really important, because, even though i don't use most of the stuff that ends up not working properly, i may just use it one day, and i'd like it to work when that day comes... plus, i take it, lots of people like aeon like me, and can't stand the fact that so many things just don't work, or partially work. Nice to correct that issue.
But anyways, thanks for those comments... nice to know someone appreciates the time spent on this project. Thanks a lot and i hope you like the next release.

for the first question... by poster art, are we referring to the pictures of the poster covers or fanart?
Let's say if I have "Grandma's Boy" under this directory: "F:\Movies\AVI Movies\Grandma's Boy\grandmasboy.avi" When you look in XBMC under the "Grandma's Boy" folder and all you see is ".." and the actual AVI, I want my Grandma's Boy poster.jpg to be shown on the AVI itself instead of a random point in the movie. So basically, you can click on the movie poster and play the AVI file.

sure will... kinda understand your situation a little better... but as i'm new to the world of skinning, some things i can't quite figure out to do... no idea how the jpg-avi relationship works, as in your case... it completely baffles me... don't quite know if it's something u need to code into the skin, or if it's an xbmc coding issue... if u could find out how to do it, i'd sort it out for the next release... post a topic in one of the help forums, theres always helpful people in there... i always hear back in a few hours... let me know what you find out if you decide to hunt for answers...

What a skin or mod I suppose. I can actually use Aeon for once without getting frustrated and having to change back to another properly functioning skin. It's like what Aeon was supposed to end up like but actually finished. Runs really good on xbox too thanks for that.

I noticed is when in showcase view and when resuming a film is that it wont play because of memory issue's I'd say. Fanart is on and even with xbox compatibilty mode on it still the same.
Film will play if played from the beginning but resume seems to just do nothing. Can even lock the xbox if selected to play again straight after so must be a memory issue. Even with xbox compatibilty mode on it still the same.
Solution:
Can we free more memory somehow when in this view?

Got it all working.. and I didn't even break anything in the process.. :) I got a few requests about what I did to fix it, so I'll just post it here.. Just copy and replace these into the 720 folder of the skin.. All this does is add Poster and Showcase views to the Adult(kids) section.. Still have yet to do the same for Clips..

Horizonz was made with the notion that you the user, has a stop button on whatever system ur using... the keyboard, xbox controller, xbox remote all have stop buttons, so i ommited a stop button from the osd... if a stop button doesn't exist, it can easily be mapped to the keymap.xml file... what system are u using and controller are u using?

the only other way to free memory is to disable backdrop cycling... but if ur running out of memory, something else isn't right... like backdrops are too big or posters are too big, or something like that... i've never heard of memory issues during playback on the xbox... i have two housemates with xboxes and horizonz is installed on their systems... they watch movies a lot and they don't ever tell me about memory issues... they've optimized their backdrops and posters though... no idea how i can optimize this even more...have u followed the optimization processes for xbox systems spread around this forum?

well... i use a really strange hp remote for my htpc... and it doesn't have a stop button either... asked around and i got told how to map keys using the keymap.xml... so i did... and it worked... i'm sure apple remotes are supported... so, post a thread asking about mapping the stop button to one of the keys on the apple remote... that's if it has any obsolete keys u can use... normally they have numeric keys, which is what i used for different functions... i know using a keyboard... media stops playing if u click the x button... look into it... they should be able to help u map apple remote keys...

well... what makes me tick... at the moment, i'm rushing around doing this and that and horizonz finds itself in the middle of the rush... and half of the time, when i mess with something, something else that was working doesn't anymore... if i have a set task, i normally finish that before i do something else... and with requests and bugs popping up, they get added to my list of things to do... and thus, if i release, and an issue someones mentioned isn't quite done... things would feel incomplete for me... knowing i'll have a few more things to add after that release... so, to not let my to do list get too big, i release when i'm happy with what i've done... one or two things in a release isn't quite what i'd like to release... but yeah, horizonz is just my way of getting better at skinning and learning xbmc's ins and outs, so that when i decide to do my own project... i'd be ready...
nyways... also smaller releases take as much time to release as larger ones... and that is time i could use doing something else... one of the reasons aeon never quite got to beta phase, is because of the emence number of requests and suggestions... trying to avoid that if u know what i mean... but yeah... there'll be a release soon... maybe i'll pamper u guys with a screenshot or two... coz a few cool changes are being made...

As I've started adding my opinion to this specific forum, I've decided to add a few suggetions of my own (Don't know if they've been mentioned before):
I'd love it if some information was displayed on the Movie Wall View?
Also, would much appreciate a means of identifying where you are when traversing libraries? For instance, in PM3, when you move through a list, a letter pops up displaying which letter you are currenly at. Views such as Showcase would benefit greatly by adding this as a feature?

hmmm... not sure if im gonna incorporate anything new into the lower home scroller just yet... haven't really thought about it... but i'll keep it in mind for now... but who knows... maybe something simple...

xb2iris have you considered adding the XML needed for an Apple Movie Trailers section? Currently if you run AMT with Aeon it just goes to the PM3 skin.

I'm having trouble replacing the default\grass background
I create a default directory and put grass.png in there but it keep flashing with
my new background and the old in xpr file
I dont like dark color because of my aging eyes :-) and I cant work out how to unpack and repack xpr files
any tips? or can you upload some where the whole structure of skins without packing it into xpr file?

Hey first of all thanks for working on this mod. I love the simple uncluttered interface that aeon provides and this mod really improves things :)
I just installed the latest version from the first page of this thread and everything is working great but I am experiencing an odd thing and I wanted to know if there is something I can do about it.
When viewing my movie library in "info" mode and "showcase" mode the movie backdrops that I set in AEON settings that show in every other mode is gone and there is a generic gray backdrop until a movie that has fan art is selected. Is this by design in these two modes?
Secondly while in info mode, when i scroll between movies there is a split second when a movie is first selected that the fan art is displayed, then back to the generic gray backdrop for about a half a second before the fan art loads. Any ideas?

You need to uncheck the 'disable backdrop cyclying' in Aeon\Features

It's easy to add skin specific strings. All you need to do is to move the hardcoded english text into Horizons/language/English/strings.xml. The most important are the texts in the Main menu in Horisonz.
strings.xml contains strings ID's between 31000 thru 31999 these are reserved by XBMC for skin strings, then just add the label to the skin the same way you would add any other translatable label.
So, at start there will only be the english strings.xml. But soon I and other can help out translating your texts into different language. There is even a specific tool (XBMC Translator) that will help translators. You can also use it when building your strings.xml.

xb2iris have you considered adding the XML needed for an Apple Movie Trailers section? Currently if you run AMT with Aeon it just goes to the PM3 skin.
And thanks again for all the hard work, you've fixed nearly all of the things missing from Aeon which is downright amazing (there were a lot)!
haven't considered it just yet... it's in the scripts section, and once u enter it, it doesn't go to pm3, it just uses a pm3 skin... so, one day i may make a skin for apple movie trailers... as for adding it to the main menu... that's an idea i'll think about...
I'm having trouble replacing the default\grass background
I create a default directory and put grass.png in there but it keep flashing with
my new background and the old in xpr file
I dont like dark color because of my aging eyes :-) and I cant work out how to unpack and repack xpr files
any tips? or can you upload some where the whole structure of skins without packing it into xpr file?

the default background is in the textures.xpr... u need to use xpr-express to extract the xpr file found in the media directory... once, unpacked, add a file called grass.png to the default directory overwriting the present one... then, if u want to replace the grey one in showcase or info sections... add a file called showcase.jpg to the textures directory or whichever directory u extracted the xpr file into... then, rename that directory to media and re-compress it and copy it over the textures.xpr in the media directory...
guess that explaination is quick and simple... but yeah, in a bit of rush... sorry... hope u can sort it out!
Hey first of all thanks for working on this mod. I love the simple uncluttered interface that aeon provides and this mod really improves things :)
I just installed the latest version from the first page of this thread and everything is working great but I am experiencing an odd thing and I wanted to know if there is something I can do about it.
When viewing my movie library in "info" mode and "showcase" mode the movie backdrops that I set in AEON settings that show in every other mode is gone and there is a generic gray backdrop until a movie that has fan art is selected. Is this by design in these two modes?
Secondly while in info mode, when i scroll between movies there is a split second when a movie is first selected that the fan art is displayed, then back to the generic gray backdrop for about a half a second before the fan art loads. Any ideas?

You need to uncheck the 'disable backdrop cyclying' in Aeon\Features

It's easy to add skin specific strings. All you need to do is to move the hardcoded english text into Horizons/language/English/strings.xml. The most important are the texts in the Main menu in Horisonz.
strings.xml contains strings ID's between 31000 thru 31999 these are reserved by XBMC for skin strings, then just add the label to the skin the same way you would add any other translatable label.

no problemo... will add the menu items to the strings.xml... as for the other things... going through the entire skin looking for non-hardcoded labels would be mission, with my social life and other updates i'm busy sorting out at the moment... but, as a basis, the menu should be sorted out by next release...

Translations are for skins, not mods. On many occasions, XB2IRIS has said that this mod was for personal use, but decided to share it with the public out of the goodness of his heart.
After all, he decided to take suggestions and requests and modify the mod to suit others' needs, again out of the goodness of his heart. Such suggestions can obviously hinder his personal preference, and on almost every occation has added a feature even though he never uses it or doesn't see the point of it. This mod was never meant to replace AEON, yet everyone is treating him as if that's the case. Will you still download Horizonz, when a new Aeon version comes out. Maybe, maybe not. This is a mod, but so many of you treat it elsewise.
And lately, some of you are forcing suggestions. If you want something, he doesn't feel is important, don't force it, do it yourself. What is a few minutes, knowing he has spent months putting this together. Lord, what's wrong with some of you people. If he says he'll think about it, leave it at that, don't force the topic.
Haven't you noticed, that if he thinks its important enough, he does it. C'mon, stop harrassing the guy. A simple thank you isn't enough for the forceful nature of some of the suggestions i've seen of this forum.
Anyways, just thought i'd voice my opinion.

I completely agree. Unlike some other skin creator's, XB2IRIS has been nothing but great towards everyone using his mod. A few, have helped out where they could, offered encouragement and congratulations about this miraculous mod, and suggested things with understanding, rather than forcing ideas and pushing the bracket.
HORIZONZ is the best mod I've ever used, and obviously I'm excited about what's coming next. But I've been supportive rather than throwing my two sense around trying to get things done for me. While your relaxing waiting for things to happen, the skinner is spending hours and hours trying to get those things done. They don't just get done, time is spent getting them done.
So, everybody, if something is noted by the mod's creator, there is a big chance it'll be done one day. Look at the strike rate for suggestions versus features. It's close to 100%, and that's only due to XB2IRIS's commitement to helping out.
I don't see too many of the suggestions panel dropping in to offer encouragement and insight into what you like that's been done already. XB2IRIS isn't a team, it's an individual! So, be thoughtful and stop forcing ideas! Rectifier, good on you for bringing it up!

Actually, I don't see what the rush is about.. Just about everything that was either not working or missing, is good now.. I'm pretty happy with the way Horizonz is currently..
As more of a learning experience, I've been messing around with the rss feeds.. I somewhat have it working with the lowered scroller, but not really.. Few other things I'd like to add as well.. Maybe someday I'll make the Horizonz mod mod.. But for now, I think he did a great job on this and I'm looking forward to see what else he has planned..

that maybe x2biris might had misunderstood the reason about strings.. thats
all. dont get this to be a flame about my intentions.
I have created skins myself and know the work and dedication that it takes so dont try and learn me something i know.

This is not a skin, this is a mod. Aeon is the skin, and afaik it was meant from the beginning for 720p and 1080p resolution only. Also I believe the original developer never finished it and is working on something else, so you're unlikely to see changes beyond the scope of this mod.

yeah, i think some people are a bit to die hard when it comes to the fan thing... but yeah, it does seem forced sometimes... but don't worry, it wasn't taken that way by me myself... so no problem... about what u wanted... i'll definately do the main menu hardcoded labels... but like i mentioned... because i'm continously changing things, i'll only hardcode other things when i feel they are done and perfect... hope that makes sense

i wouldn't mind sorting the fonts thing out for 4x3, but as time is short and i'm busy with a lot of other things in the mod, it won't be soon... but rest assured... aeon never had 4x3 support, so if i can get this mod close to complete, i'll definately add that in... i mean, i did chose to optimize this skin for the xbox... so, whats wrong with optimizing it for 4x3 as well... check back later in it's life span...

Let skinners and modders do their thing first and let them focus on first actually finish something completely. Then when mod/skin is stable and working one can start to tweak stuff.

this way all source is kept available to others and its easy to add more members to help out and if for some reason you dont have the time others can easily continue. Mods is aslo easier to do with an open svn.

yeah, i get yah... its very true... but at least i know, i'll be using horizonz for a long time... but like i've told people... i will do as much as i can with suggestions and ideas, and even though i don't quite use the everything the skin has to offer, who knows, i may one day... and when that day comes, i'd hope that it is a working feature... that's why i'm taking requests... but yeah, like u said, skinners get bored and try something else... but yeah, it all depends on the mindset of that skinner i guess... i'm keen on user input, but a few aren't... what can i say... aeon's creator may or may not of got bored of his skin, but i think he geniunely decided to do something else with it... stark will be out one day... and i hope it'll be out at at least a beta stage...

it doesn't have 4x3 support, due to it being a complete continuation of aeon classic which didn't support this format as well... plus, quebert, this is a mod and not a skin, so the chances of 4x3 being supported in the near future is slim... but, it may just happen at a later stage... first concentrating on getting as many features up and running... sorry about that...

Over the past few weeks I've decided to change a few aspects of the interface, modernise a few outdated features and above all, deal with a number of requests I've received since Volume II's release. Thought I'd pay my respects to Aeon Stark (besides the incorrect Album Art for Nine Inch Nail's single Echoplex of course), which for now seems a dormant mammoth of a skin, awaiting release. So, here's a sneak preview of what the Home Page will look like when Volume III of Horizonz arrives.
I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. Your responces will determine when Volume III will be made available. I still have a few things of my own I'd like to tie up before it's released as well.
Volume II is still available on the front page, so if you haven't tried it out just yet, grab a copy (hint...) and send any suggestions my way. Feedback is extremely welcome!

That is incredible. Like the screenshots of Stark, but I much prefer the glassed look of Horizonz. So, this is the best of both worlds.
WOW!!! That screenshot is absoluetly stunning XB2IRIS! The now playing panel looks much improved and so does the new positioning of the timepanel. I've always wanted the time panel to move down, because it obscures the faces of people on my backdrops. So, it's absolutely essential that u did that in my opinion. All in all, this screen shot looks better than stark's.
One thing everybody doesn't quite get is that xbmc downloads covers from allmusic, so they have smaller dimensions and thus look fuzzy if stretched, thus in stark most cover art would look a tad fuzzy on the main page. Don't ask me how i know, I just do!
Anyways, I'm really excited with this one. It's going to be a prime time download in my opinion.

it doesn't have 4x3 support, due to it being a complete continuation of aeon classic which didn't support this format as well... plus, quebert, this is a mod and not a skin, so the chances of 4x3 being supported in the near future is slim... but, it may just happen at a later stage... first concentrating on getting as many features up and running... sorry about that...
That makes sense to me, I should probably upgrade my monitor any ways, I have a 21" CRT I run it in 720p windowed mode and it looks great, not full screen but big enough for me and everything looks normal.

I've been downloading skins, mods and plugins for xbmc since day 1, which feels like an age ago. Changed my user name many many times, changed my media libraries 1000 times and watched or listened to a million or more videos or songs on who knows how many skins. Used an xbox in it's day, got a htpc and a projector, and ended up with a linux system at work and apple tv at home.
BUT never, not in 5 years, have I liked a skin as much as this one. There's always been a home screen feature, glitch in the look or something itchy that never quite got me stuck to a skin as I've been stuck to this one. I just can't find a complaint...
And with this recent Screenshot, I'm even more stuck. It looks ABSOLUTELY FAB! Everything about it rings quality! I really can't wait!

Until now that is. This skin has the X-FACTOR, or in less geeky terms, it's the best skin around, and has the biggest potential I reckon. I think all die hard fans of Aeon, this is what we wanted Aeon to end up as!

i presonally don't like that, i feel that having it lowered makes it look better with backgrounds .. anyway .. if i lower it .. will the time/weather thing stay attached to the menu bar or will they go back to the top ??

Hell it's a skin and not a wallpaper ! if a skin is gonna have some userfriendlyness there has to be clear and easy to understand controls.
In the long run you really dont watch the backgrounds on a skin or do you ? you have the mediacenter to have an easy access to your media. !!

would love to help you out... sounds like a pain in the ass... but yeah, i have no idea how to specify a different icon for different things like (..) for instance... i've included a lot of default icons, but they're section specific, not file specific... don't know if there's a way of specifying icons for the situations you're talking about... wish i knew, so i could help you, but i've created icons for everything in the textures.xpr file i believe to be default icons... no idea, what more i can do... sorry bud... glad u like the skin though...
I just found out. It is possible to have different icons for the parent folder and for video files!
DefaultFolderBackBig.png vs DefaultFolderBig.png vs DefaultVideoBig.png for instance.
You can place some images named like that in the media/ folder in the skin.

Over the past few weeks I've decided to change a few aspects of the interface, modernise a few outdated features and above all, deal with a number of requests I've received since Volume II's release. Thought I'd pay my respects to Aeon Stark (besides the incorrect Album Art for Nine Inch Nail's single Echoplex of course), which for now seems a dormant mammoth of a skin, awaiting release. So, here's a sneak preview of what the Home Page will look like when Volume III of Horizonz arrives.
I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. Your responces will determine when Volume III will be made available. I still have a few things of my own I'd like to tie up before it's released as well.
Volume II is still available on the front page, so if you haven't tried it out just yet, grab a copy (hint...) and send any suggestions my way. Feedback is extremely welcome!

How about trying to emulate that delicious showcase view that was called "Skyline"? Maybe call it "Horizon" instead? The big glossy posters? I don't want you to rip-off Stark, but I also would love to see a working version of that view. :D

Stunning job XB2IRIS! Pitty it's a screenshot and not the actual release, not that implies that I'm putting pressure on you to release anything anytime soon.
Isn't that peak ironic. Strange thing, it looks even better than the original stark preview in my opinion. Every touch is brilliant! The NOW PLAYING section looks remarkably neat and works really well with the RSS and Bar. Nice touch having that glow effect surrounding the cover art. It's eye catching and will definately light my Living Room up even more than it is already.
Really looking forward to the actual release. Volume III is going to be one hell of a spectacular piece of art. Wonder what's in stall for us, the users.
I still don't see enough praise on this forum since that screenshot was released. A lot of people are asking about features and if this or that is included. What about acknowledging how amazing the screenshot looks!

I absolutely love the screener. Like that u've changed the main menu, even though I don't believe it needed anything done to it beforehand. It was splendid from day one, but I've got to say, I adore the new look. May start using the RSS Feed again. Haven't missed it, but it looks amazing on that capture.
Well, all I want to know is when this release is coming out. There's a lot of updates included I take it. I'll be happy with just having the main menu page looking like the preview. Can't believe it. Doubt it'll get DJH out of hibernation though, and I believe that's the reason for doing the shot the way you did.

I wouldn't mind seeing a font change on the main menu myself, but that's something easily changed. :D

X factor hah... i'll put an extra menu option called X Factor on the home scroller, then i'll be sorted out... ;)... don't think theres a single skin that ever had that x factor ur mentioning... every skin I've ever tried lasted for a month at most, and then i swapped, until an update came out... aeon lasted the longest... hence the mod... but yes, i do agree, it's hard to create a buzz that's unspeakably THE SKIN of all skins... but yes, with some effort, we may just have one... any suggestions on how to do that would be greatly appreciated...

That is incredible. Like the screenshots of Stark, but I much prefer the glassed look of Horizonz. So, this is the best of both worlds.
WOW!!! That screenshot is absoluetly stunning XB2IRIS! The now playing panel looks much improved and so does the new positioning of the timepanel. I've always wanted the time panel to move down, because it obscures the faces of people on my backdrops. So, it's absolutely essential that u did that in my opinion. All in all, this screen shot looks better than stark's.
One thing everybody doesn't quite get is that xbmc downloads covers from allmusic, so they have smaller dimensions and thus look fuzzy if stretched, thus in stark most cover art would look a tad fuzzy on the main page. Don't ask me how i know, I just do!
Anyways, I'm really excited with this one. It's going to be a prime time download in my opinion.

Tried to snazz up the home scroller, but that's just the tip of the ice berg... lots of other things are done and ready... just a few hiccups i need to deal with first... and I've received lacklustre reviews thus far... nothing providing confirmation that it's neccessary to release it just yet...

working on removing all the user functions so the skin is voice activated... so, if u say "The Incredible Hulk" the movie will play... hmmm... yeah, i get what u mean... but i totally believe visual stimulus is very important as well... didn't know the lower scroll bar was used by anyone, but since a while back... i've received a few questions about it... but yes, the most important thing about any skin is to provide easy access to media...

you didn't expect me to do this after those pm's did yah... anyways... did alter the info view to replicate the skyline view... didn't change the frames though, coz that would mean an entire overhaul of the frames across the skin... i think i will do that at a later stage... maybe i'll create a universal frame quite similar to the one in that stark image... dark and slick sounds good... but we'll see

ironic, u got that right... stark is taking forever to create... and all the more, it's taking an age for it's creator to come out of hibernation and give us a sign he's still working on it... i'm sure he is though...

Lord, things just keep on getting better. Was going to ask when the Now Playing panel would be added to the lower home screen position. I'm a fan of it as well, but I was convinced, after seeing the last screenshot, I'd revert to the middle of the screen scroller.
But now, with it included on the lower position, I'm well impressed, and really happy to keep things exactly the way I like them. Dam, that's an amazing screenshot.
And I'm happy u decided to omit the rss feed from the lower screener. It would clutter the screen way to much. The point of this view is to focus attention on backdrops and even with the now playing panel, this does the job PERFECTLY!
Well done! Release the Goddamn volume 3 already :)

Another great preview. I have to say, I've never tried the lower screen position since the Aeon days, and that was short lived.
Now, after checking the screenshot out, I'm pretty impressed with what it looks like. I think the time panel does it justice, and makes this view more visually stimulating in my opinion.
Really liking where this mod is going! The future is upon us, and for all of you wanting the time panel back at the top, well, this is the future. Like it or not, it's going to take a bit of getting used to, but in all, it'll feel like a new skin.
I'm so ready for this release.

So many people lost their head over the time panel in the stark forum, and they've just complained about the new look in this mod. I don't understand, things need to change to progress, and it looks splendid in my opinion. I just don't get it! Do you want to progress or do u want to keep things the same?
Well, I confirm I love what I see. Too excited for words, so I'll leave the ball in ur court! Can't wait!
I like progress, but I would like to have regular updates...
If for some reason things are heading into a direction I don't like I can revert to another version...
It's very easy to get a situation like Stark... Maybe it will never come and we would have almost died to get the code he was running more than a month ago.

There were some things missing in volume 1 that made me go back to original Aeon.. The volume 2 is missing some minor feature that's already incorporated... Well, yes... this new skin looks stunning and I would like to wait...
But I could have had Horizonz volume 2 with that minor feature for more than a week already.... I know it all sounds a bit ungrateful, but I'm doing my fair share for the public domain as well although it's not skinning.
Regular updates is the key. SVN might be helpful to make this feasable...

I have to agree, love what you have done but time panel up the top is much better.
give it a try, u may love it, like my two housemates... it does a lot for backdrops having the panel down there... trust me... the old bar remains in the other sections though... so, u won't miss it for very long...
One thing that really upset me when using the lower home scroller was the disappearance of the rss feed. Can you add it to your mod somehow?

Another great preview. I have to say, I've never tried the lower screen position since the Aeon days, and that was short lived.
Now, after checking the screenshot out, I'm pretty impressed with what it looks like. I think the time panel does it justice, and makes this view more visually stimulating in my opinion.
Really liking where this mod is going! The future is upon us, and for all of you wanting the time panel back at the top, well, this is the future. Like it or not, it's going to take a bit of getting used to, but in all, it'll feel like a new skin.
I'm so ready for this release.

There were some things missing in volume 1 that made me go back to original Aeon.. The volume 2 is missing some minor feature that's already incorporated... Well, yes... this new skin looks stunning and I would like to wait...
But I could have had Horizonz volume 2 with that minor feature for more than a week already.... I know it all sounds a bit ungrateful, but I'm doing my fair share for the public domain as well although it's not skinning.
Regular updates is the key. SVN might be helpful to make this feasable...

oh okay... that view with the information only shows up in library mode... u need to click on library in the menu at the top of the screen... then the showcase view will work properly, and the info will show up!

Over the past few weeks I've decided to change a few aspects of the interface, modernise a few outdated features and above all, deal with a number of requests I've received since Volume II's release. Thought I'd pay my respects to Aeon Stark (besides the incorrect Album Art for Nine Inch Nail's single Echoplex of course), which for now seems a dormant mammoth of a skin, awaiting release. So, here's a sneak preview of what the Home Page will look like when Volume III of Horizonz arrives.
I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. Your responces will determine when Volume III will be made available. I still have a few things of my own I'd like to tie up before it's released as well.
Volume II is still available on the front page, so if you haven't tried it out just yet, grab a copy (hint...) and send any suggestions my way. Feedback is extremely welcome!

Don't think he's done a lot besides what he's shown off in the screenshots. Been PMing him, and he's had a lot of stuff pre-occupying him delaying the release of Volume III. I doubt he'll have changed much before Volume III comes out, including the frames you're talking about.
Also, if you read back, people complained about the original frames, which is the reason he changed them, so doubt the thought of changing them again would have crossed his mind until your post. But who knows?!?

nope... every backdrop i use is something i find randomly, while creating the mod... not putting any backpacks together just yet... first want this mod to mature to something more complete before i start putting complimentary backpacks together...

as rectifier says, there were complaints about the earlier episode frames, and due to these, i changed it... do have a few ideas for the mod's frameage... but this will only be put into practice when i get back into modding after my holiday, which is soon... sorry it's not up to standard...

When watching movies needs better OSD for controls. stop, ff, rw, play etc.
When updating info about movie, music, etc. the status needs to be more intuitive in most cases it just appears to freeze until you realize that you need to look at the bottom of the screen.
Other than that...I really like the skin and look forward to the next release.

Wow look how far this mod has come. I think the only features Horizonz needs to make it have all the functionality of PM3 are:
- in Movie Info view when viewing the cast the actor thumbs don't show up (there's an empty spot for them though)
- when you click on an actor from the cast list the search results come up behind the Movie Info window (can't read them).
That's pretty amazing compared to Aeon which was pretty much un-usable because of all the missing features! And those 2 features are pretty minor and are being looked at already I think... xb2iris you have done an amazing job of patching in all the missing functionality from Aeon and making a totally usable skin! I love the look of the new lower home scroller also, and I can't wait for the fanart backgrounds to work in Info view so I can stop using Showcase :0)
I'm sure you have no shortage of feature requests, but I had a thought about the home screen that I think would be very interesting. Now that XBMC scrapes fanart I have hundreds of 720p fanart pictures in my movie folders. I've considered copying them all into my home background folder but this'd be pretty annoying to keep up to date. So I was thinking, is it possible to add a skin option to enable the addition of fanart to the random backgrounds? The skin would automatically use movie/tv/music fanart to scroll in the respective categories if the feature was enabled. I think this would be a fantastic feature for fanart lovers, and since this skin is pretty much the ultimate fanart skin I'd think many users would appreciate such a feature.
Anyway keep up the good work and thanks again for turning Aeon into such a great usable skin!

i've dealt with a few of those issues for the next release... status popups are a no no... that was very low on my list of things to do, due to lack of time... but they will be dealt with later i promise... video osd has all those buttons in the new release... and the info view is completely different now, so see what you think of it when volume 3 hits...

i looked into your other idea yesterday, and i don't believe it's possible, and if it is, its beyond me... the reason is because fanart folders are user specified as source items, and thus, pointing to it in the code would be a bit of mission... also, i have no idea how to point to the cached fanart images... it is an interesting idea though... i kinda like the thought process, but i wish my coding experience was extensive enough to deal with it... sorry dude... but rest assured, actor thumbs and actor window are in for next release...

there's a view in the tv shows section called widecase... its disabled by default, so it needs to be enabled via the viewtypes tab in the tv shows section menu... then u'll be able to access and use it...

I had to delete everything XBMC related and install the Beta 2. Then, my remote started to not work so I'm having some XBMC issues to work out lol.

no horizontal scrollbar, but i have included a letter indicating where in the library u are... just an offset, which is useful for those with huge collections so they know where in the alphabet they are while scrolling through a list at high speeds... hope that's okay... don't know if it was u who passed that idea onto me... but yeah...
volume III out later today, or tomorrow... not 100% of the things wanted to do got finished, but it's gotta do for now... hope u like it!

no horizontal scrollbar, but i have included a letter indicating where in the library u are... just an offset, which is useful for those with huge collections so they know where in the alphabet they are while scrolling through a list at high speeds... hope that's okay... don't know if it was u who passed that idea onto me... but yeah...
volume III out later today, or tomorrow... not 100% of the things wanted to do got finished, but it's gotta do for now... hope u like it!

no problem... feature list is big, but it won't look that big due to expectations... people want to see huge things happen... correcting a bug ain't considered anything time consuming... so won't be appreciated much... hope u like the next release...
I'm ready! With Horizonz being developed so quickly, think about it, how much changed in two months with aeon classic? A new view and a panel or two.
It's miraculous how much Horizonz changes on a release orientated basis! Show us the money!

So...when do you stop referring to it as a Mod and call it just a skin? Because between the time that Aeon became Aeon Stark and now, I've seen this skin become a lot more close to fully functional than the original Aeon skin. The original was great, but had a lot missing...

That's great that you added the letters while scrolling.. Just last night I was wishing we had that in Horizonz.. The actor thumbs was what I was going to look into next, so I'm glad you got to it first.. :)
Looking forward to see what you did.. and hoping you didn't change too much so I can get those view type fixes back in there..

try scrolling through 1200+ movies .. only way i can do it decently is in wall mode .. hehe :oo:

before aeon got a subforum .. it had i think around 2500 posts ;) .. we still have room to grow

yeah, i know, my housemates got around that many... letter offset is well useful for him now...
before aeon got a subforum .. it had i think around 2500 posts ;) .. we still have room to grow
yeah, i know it was slightly more i think, but it was a full on skin, the most popular at the time... no other skin had even a wift of attention compared to it... now we have mediastream and this mod isn't even sticky'd after i asked djh to sticky it up... and if you think about it, horizonz has only been around for a few months... aeon was around for over a year, and went through a bug driven developement process, thus, tons of releases, and therefore tons of replies... there were even backdrop releases and all of that in that thread remember... so, yeah, i'm trying to avoid that kinda thing... keep it simple... but still, doing well...

hahaha... don't think so... but who knows... maybe some other modder out there is calling aeon classic he's own and is just waiting to blow my mod out of the water... we'll see!
So, Volume III has finally arrived. It's been awhile since the last update, but at lot has changed. Took my time with this one, as to include as many of your requests as possible. Some of the features included haven't been properly tested thoroughly, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. This will be my last release before I take a break from anything xbmc related. So please, continue to post suggestions and make requests, and I promise, I'll return with a vengence as soon as I can. Also, continue to help each other on this thread so we can further this mod to what next horizon, perfection. Rest assured, developement will continue and I'll be around for another week or so before the break, so keep in touch. And as usual, enjoy using Horizonz: Volume III.

Don't know if it's intentional or not, but the behaviour with fanart is different for showcase and info view.. I like showcase the best, but I only get the behaviour I would like to see with info view.
Thing is I have enabled my own fanart in settings, so it constantly cycles from my folder of choice.. When I pause on a movie in info view the fanart for the movie I selected slide in, but this does not happen in showcase.. Here fanart for the selected movie/tvserie does not show as long as I have selected "cycle fanart in info/showcase views..." in settings.
I would like the behaviour where I can have my chosen fanart cycling, untill I pause on a movie, then it should show the fanart for that movie. As I said I don't know if it is intentional or not, but I found it a bit weird that the behaviour is not the same for the two views..

This looks great.. Just did a quick run through and I gotta say, you did an awesome job on this.. Love the new backdrop and all the new options.. The little Mod tab you did is nice too..
The cast section looks so much nicer now too..

looking good, however, the tv view with the filmstrip border around the screen thumbnails looks a little out of place. I really like the dvd case. I think it should kinda flow a little better. It would be nice if the now playing icon had the dvd cover as well and if we could have something similar for the tv episodes and music albums. not sure. Just looks a little disjointed. these are observations form the screenshots. I will try it out myself tonight. I think you should move away form the dvd case and make all the views look like the now playing with a gloss and just a border. any one else have any ideas?

This is one mean release, the list of changes is long and strong in my opinion. Best thing is that you do your own thing as well, and don't just deal with requests.
And again, A FEW PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING AGAIN.
DID YOU LIFT A FINGER TO CREATE SKIN, no! It tooks 100's of hours to put this together, so have respect. Rather ask a question or make a request than making outrageous statements.

Not sure why this would be happening.. I have mine set to cycle through my fanart and both showcase and info are working the same.. Fanart for each movie comes into view when paused on it..

Awesome job!
Any chance you could add the Watched/Unwatched status overlay and item count used by Mediastream in TV Shows Library mode? It's incredibly useful to see what's newly downloaded without having to Hide Watched, which can make the interface look very messy with the same two or three shows repeating forever.

Absolutely love this release! Really like the design of the mainmenu scroller and now playing widget. Also the Info view is superb. Like it's speed and smoothness. And there has to be much more to discover tonight ;)
