Hi all xbmc fans:)

I am very impressed with the functionality in the windows port of xbmc. But I have a slight problem with the video playback performance. I know that a lot of people reports problems with hd stuff etc. and complaining about not using external codecs. I know all that but my issue is slightly different.

When I play regular avi files in sd (and hd) or dvd isos the quality of the playback is not perfect. I can see small 'hickups' in the playback, like it's not as smooth as it should be. Especially in panoramic scenes this is very annoying as the image is a little 'jerky'. It should not be a performance problem on my pc because the cpu load is around 20-25% during playback and the xbmc reports no dropped frames. The frame rate reported is also correct. I also do not think it is a sync problem as enabling/disabling vertical sync do me no good. I have tried different resolutions, fullscreen or windowed but nothing seems to help..

As i have understood the xbmc uses the 'dvdplayer' as its internal player. Does anybody else have this problem, or are there any tweaking tips for me? I did some testing using the x86 port of mplayer and then the playback quality was perfect. And no other player I use give me this problem.

Btw. my pc is a AMD Athlon X2 2800+, 3Gb ram, XP SP3, GeForce 6600

Thanx for any advice or help on this as it is the only issue keeping me from using xbmc.

Kind regards..

I have got the same problem as you fundseth. I got a computer running with a 3.00GHz Penryn dualcore, 2GB Ram and a Geforce 8600GT but still jerky picture.

When playing with PowerDVD, Win Mediaplayer, Mediaportal etc. every movie runs smoothly and nice.

Lets hope this is fixed in a stable beta soon!

Debug logs is (always) needed from all of you, upload to pastebin.com (http://pastebin.com) and port the URL to them here.

Same problem here (2,4 Penryn, ATI), once if got the time to do so, I'll look out for a movie trailer to reproduce it, and upload my log file.

Could it be a hz Issue, where incorrect framedoubling would cause a judder in the picture, when there ist a camera pan?

Could be different things. Even the used compiler for ffmpeg could have impact (good or bad  )

XBMC for Windows performs very bad on my X2 4200+ also. Nvidia 8800 GT. GUI often pauses and video playback is far from smooth. GUI problem is probably due to lack of use of threads for something
