I'm having a bit of a problem playing a certain folder of videos, every time I I try to play a video xbmc just pauses for a brief second and then acts as if I hadn't hit the play button.

I am using my former desktop computer as an "external harddrive" and have it networked to my laptop so I can watch my movies and what not on my tv. I have gone through and ensured that all files and folders are indeed shared and it seems to be only effecting a single folder of videos that I have just added to said "external harddrive".

Any help is much appreciated!

What kind of videos are the ones you're having issues with? You can play _some_ videos, just not a few? Are they all located on the same share (the ones that fail)?

Probably has to do with share or NTFS permissions, please post a debug log from XBMC.

All of my files are organized according their type ( i.e. movie, tv show) and then subcategorized in their own separate folder (i.e. C:\tvshows\mythbusters). All of the video files are placed into the appropriate folder.

So there are other files that are working in my tvshows folder but none of the videos are working out of a particular sub-folder. (Example: C:\tvshows\mythbusters\episode01.avi works fine, but C:\tvshows\renandstimpy\episode01.avi does not) All o the files in the folder are .avi format.

I posted the debug log here http://pastebin.ca/1200383

If there is any more information that could help you ill be more than happy to post it!

I posted the debug log here http://pastebin.ca/1200383Seams to me that log only show XBMC starting, nothing more, does not look like you tries to play any files at all. You need to replicate the issue when creating the log so that it will show up.

is your Y: drive local or mapped from another computer? it seems like a permissions problem. xbmc cant interrogate the files. here's a quick test... copy the entire folder next to itself so that you get a "Copy of" folder.

My Y: drive is mapped from another computer, I tried the "copy paste" test but it's giving me the same problem with the copied folder.

Debug log with both the new and old folders tried http://pastebin.com/m1a439bf8

copy it to a local drive to confirm its not some drive mapping file permissions problem.

i had the same problem with a share on a XP system once SP3 hit :-(
had to create a user on the XP "Server" which had rights to the share and login to windows with the same id / password on the "client" XBMC
