The new Aeon recommends 1080p thumbnails ...
I'm very excited about the new Aeon-Screens and can hardly wait for the release. I have one question: As recommended I've made a few 1080p thumbnails, but when I scrape the movies, XMBC resizes the thumbnails to about 430x610 (userdata\Thumbnails\Video\...). Are there any settings to force XBMC not to resize thumbnails? Or do we have to rescrape all Movies after the release of Stark?
Hi.
I canīt wait for this release!
Have to say that i looks great, excellent work!!!
Really looking forward to this.

hahaha! That's gotta be the weirdest way to express your affection towards a piece of software.
That can be arranged, you know. Maybe we should do a poll to see if others agree. I'm not taking the piss, btw.
This wasn't meant to be negative at all. I was referring to my addictive compulsion of checking this thread each and every day. I know everyone says this, but I'm a programmer by profession (and have a fondness for graphics), so I can fully appreciate how hard you are working on this project. I love many of your design decisions in the old AEON and especially what I've seen of your latest version. My point was simply that its silly how often I check the activity of this thread, that's all.
I have to say though, it's little offputting for you to say "let's do a poll" to see who wants to discontinue screenshots. You have 50 pages of people praising your work--obviously we are all very excited. There's not a person that comes in my theater who doesn't marvel at AEON so I will patiently wait until you are 100% satisfied.
p.s. what did you mean by not taking the piss, am I missing something?

Oh wow... have been without my xbox for a while so I haven't checked up on Aeon in a few months. This is bloody BEAUTIFUL! Thanks djh, and best wishes on all current/future work!

Ohhh hell no! What else would I do twenty times a day?
I don't know if you realise this djh, but you've given me a serious case of OCD. I hope Stark gets released before I have to start therapy ;)

"Taking the piss" is a British expression, meaning kidding. In this case he's saying he's not kidding.

I think he means "I'm not joking". :)

lol... oh leave it to those funny ol' brittish lads to say something so bloody confusing...
I noticed that British English is nothing like American English... I just started to watch the show "Skins" (which I love) and it's remarkable how often I realize that I have no idea what it is they are actually talking about...
Anyhow, back on topic...

@competes - I was even thinking of saying something to the effect of "Don't get the British going on how we (Americans) talk. That's almost as sore of a subject as "which is the real 'football'?". ;)
Regardless of where it came from, we took it and made it better.
I think now it the best time to get back on topic, before all hell breaks loose. :D
Still very excited and anxious! Been using Movie Info Plus to set all these nfo files so I won't have to depend on other sources for the movies I've done, in the future...
too bad about the bug I suddenly got where my xbmc crashes when pressing the loudspeaker icon... :(

Oh yeah? Why, back in my day we had to draw our media centre skins with crayons directly on the TV! That's right, every time you changed views you had to get up, pick up your crayons and re-draw it.
You youngsters and your fancy-shmancy skins, and your jay pegs, and your em kay vees...
just a small question:
-can stark display the current subtitle? I'm using Plex on mac, and the default skin - mediastreamer - just can't do it (or I'm missing something:)
and for djh:
I've already sent you a mail, but I didn't get an answer, so I thought I'll ask it here. If you'd like, maybe you could create some backdrops form my pictures. I'd be very interested in a screenshot using the first picture - nine stairs:) :

anyway, thanks for the hard work

@tijs: What would you rather DJH do? Finish Stark? or mess about with a backdrop in photoshop that you could do?????

@tijs: Didn't you create those pictures? If so, you must know how to change the resolution to 1080p?

@tjis: You'll have to excuse my almost complete inability to reply to Aeon emails. I get about ten a day and I don't even have time to work on it properly at the moment.
The screens I've posted so far suggest that Aeon uses global view types for things like TV Shows, where in fact I'm working on specific views that better serve the media type. That's a long process, as is ensuring that all the little complexities elsewhere play nice together. In short, I have my work cut out at the moment.
Thanks for your continued patience. It'll be worth it.
djh...
I suggest no longer reading the posts on this forum until you are finished with the skin as it is likely distracting you. People are impatient and will pepper you to no end unless you just ignore them.
Maybe even make a stick telling people to stop pestering you ;)

So.... ignore everyone but me hey Livin? ;) ha
I read somewhere that you suggested 1080p posters. I currently have all my posters at 1000X1500 (or a 1:1.5 ratio).
With Stark will we get rescaled posters or cropped? Is there a way in Stark so that we can set the poster ratios in the settings area (within reason of course)?

djh, I know you're done with most of the skin and just waiting for team xbmc to implement certain features but why not just release whatever you have right now and continue updating like mediastream did. This way you get more bug reports and we get to enjoy your product earlier and team xbmc gets more publicity from this awesome skin. That's a win win win situation right there. Think about it.
Why is that people can't wait untill it's finished.
Give Djh a break if he wants to take his time and make it as perfect as he can then
surely it's better that way.
Because it will no doubt work just fine, in my oppinion there is no point in releasing a part finished skin as most user on here will start moaning saying it does not do this or the other.
As for mediastream it was complete when they put it up on the svn. so let him finish it at his own pace Not yours.

Agree with that. Some posts are rather anoying. Especially those concerning 1080 backdrops and posters. Just wait for the release and you will see.

I asked about poster artwork because I have a massive library, complete with artwork, that I could start grooming *now* instead of waiting until the release.
I would assume that djh has already spec'ed out the proportions for poster artwork at this stage in the game ... and knowing what he's working with or suggests allows me to go back through and get my artwork up to snuff.

well, isn't team xbmc still working on media flagging support where all the cool icons can be displayed by reading the streams themselves? And so you're just waiting on that to finish before the release.
@sirreef, thanks for all the cool HD posters you put up over at getvideoartwork. It's a great site, keep it up.

Dude...MediaStream was in development for almost 2 yeas before it was released for us to use. Duncan will release Stark when it is ready. Why would you want it before then anyways?
I see the wrong impression has got around somehow. Apologies if that's my fault, though I'm pretty sure it's not. To clear this matter up and keep expectations in check, here's just some of what needs doing before this is ready:
- almost the entire TV Shows component
- half the dialogs, including the on-screen keyboard and sources window
- half the Aeon Assistant content
- retexturing of panel views
- icons
- flag support for non-Showcase views
- file manager window
- entire login/profiles component
- Weather
That's just off the top of my head, at a time when I'm knee-deep in work. So if you think this is anywhere near ready, think again. Given that there's a lot of stuff I'm not showing until it's released, including some of the above, I'm thinking this thread has probably run its course for the time being. I'll give it a couple of days and lock it.

*SOBS*
Holy crap. I was under the impression that it wasn't that far off due to one of the posts you'd made around Xmas where you said something to the effect of "I was hoping to have this ready sometime around NYE, but that's probably not going to be the case now."
Ah well. As much as I make Jackassey comments about not being able to wait for Stark, I'd rather see one totally complete DJH project than a half-done one that is then subsequently hacked away at by the rest of the community. Not that the old Aeon mods are bad...but there's definitely this feeling that you're still working with an unfinished product.
So, I'll wait. If there's anything I could possibly do to help, I'd be more than willing to do it.
Things have changed a bit since then, mostly involving ambition. Had I settled for the usual thing of having more or less the same views apply to all media, and were I still in the luxurious position of having 8+ hours a day to work on it, you'd probably be using it next week. It's a different beast now, though.
I'm thinking this thread has probably run its course for the time being. I'll give it a couple of days and lock it.
Probably the wisest thing to do mate.
Why people can't accept it'll be released when it's done I don't know.
I should add that if anyone wants to have an active involvement, there are other aspects of XBMC that Aeon will use if and when they become available. Properly integrated emulator launching and game libraries are big ones, as is media flagging based on stream content. So press for those and you'll be doing yourselves a favour in the long run.

I agree with the locking of this thread as the majority of posts is about asking when the skin will be ready... if anyone has any actually significant questions to ask it's just as well to make an additional specific thread to keep everything organized and on topic.
That said I'm willing to wait, and I look forward to the skin as I wait. I agree with releasing only when it's a complete product. Media stream was basically a complete product when it was released, granted once released and more testing was done, tweaking took place. I suspect that should be the course for Stark.
That seems as good a point to call a hiatus as any, actually. Just be assured that I'm as keen to see it finished in decent time as you are to use it. Thread locked... for now.
