Ok I got it to recognize all of my movies for IMDb.com and I think this program is absolutely amazing! It single handedly is making me buy a HTPC just so I can run this program on my TV. One question though is I still cannot for the life of me figure out how to name tv shows. I have downloaded all seasons of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis but I cannot get it to scrape right when I try to set content. I don't understand the wiki or file naming stuff so I was hoping someone can explain it to me better on the post. I am running windows xp but also thinking of running linux with mythtv when I get my HTPC but right now just windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here is how I proceed when adding a new show to the library. I don't know if that's the best way, but it's a good start.

Create a unique folder for each show.
Name each folder exactly like it is named on the website you want to use (personally I use http://thetvdb.com/ most of the time, so you can do a search and see how the show is named here).
Rename every episode you have in those folder with the season and episode number. For my personal experience, it works every time when naming it SxEP (so Season 1 Episode 1 should be named 1x01.avi (depending of the original extension of course), Season 2 Episode 12 should be named 2x12.avi, and so on). Use a mass renamer if you have a lot of file, like Ant Renamer (http://www.antp.be/software/renamer).
Scan the folder of the show, don't forget to check "Only contains one show".
Well, that should be it! The show should be added to the library.

I always use this method and it has always worked. Hope that helped you!

it is also possible to use your own file naming conventions but you will need to set up a custom RegExp in Advanced Settings, so if that scares you do as Meuhcoin described. If you're really OCD about your filenames (like me) then you may want to look at the manual, as it explains in detail how to do this and its not that hard.

I have my file names as E:\TV Seasons\Stargate Atlantis\

And in this folder I have three folders each named season 1,2 etc

I renamed all the episodes to the 1x01.avi and it still won't recoginize them when I add them to my files and set content and scan for them at http://thetvdb.com/

I am about to build a HTPC and I can get it to work for almost all of my movies just fine but my TV shows I still cannot get it to propperly scan them and add all the episode and season information. What am I doing wrong?

Personally i dont like using htat naming scheme....

My AdvancedSettings.XML is:

<advancedsettings>
- (file:///R:/All%20Software/XBOX/AdvancedSettings.xml#) <tvshowmatching>
<regexp>Season[\._ ]([0-9]+)[\\/]([0-9]+)[^\\/]*</regexp>

<regexp>S([0-9]+)[\\/]([0-9]+)[^\\/]*</regexp>

<regexp>([0-9]+)x([0-9]+)[^\\/]*</regexp>

</tvshowmatching>

</advancedsettings>

So for your case i have a folder called Stargate Atlantis
in there i have folders called S1, S2, S3, S4
Then my episodes are called 01, 02, 03 etc

The XML file goes in the same folder as the Sources.XML

These regular expresiosns support severl naming schemes including the one i outlined in more detail above.

That should be supported by the default naming scheme i thinks, try without a <tvshowmatching> section in your advanced settings.xml

that naming convention is supported by default. you do not need any special tvmatching regexps. (didn't you ask this several times now? if you're having a particular problem where its not picking up your episodes, open a thread about the problem.)

1x01.avi was only supported by default with kraqh3d's recent changes. I doubt you are using a version that incorporates them. Things change so fast around here that sometimes it's hard keeping up ;)

Either use s01e01.avi for now, or wait for the next release where those changes will be incorporated. The next release is scheduled for 12th September at this point.

Cheers,
Jonathan

so right now i have a E:/TV Seasons/Stargate Atlantis/Season 2/s01e01 and when i set content it still wont pull the info. Do I need to change something in what I'm pulling or what? lol I feel retarded because all of my movies grab just fine and I have them all decked out in the AEON skin glory but I cannot for the life of me get my TV shows to do it.

Hi there - I just copied these exact advanced settings into my file advancedsettings.xml which is located in the userdata folder, but xbmc still wont detect my files. I've followed the simple and informative guide on the site but I must still be doing something wrong because it's not working. Can anyone offer advice?

Also worth pointing out that when I re-name my files to the default nomenclature it finds them no problem. My current layout is thus:

\Battlestar Galactica\Season 3\01 - Occupation.avi

Using the guide which I found here (http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=TV_Shows) as well as I can, this should allow my shows to be detected, alas to no avail.

Popo, the only way I was able to get it to work after updating the xml settings was to go to (for Vista, path is slightly different for XP):

C:\Users\-your-username-\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\Database

And remove the MyVideos34.db and then run the Set Content process again.

Not sure if this is standard (undocumented) procedure but saw it mentioned in another thread and it did the trick for me.

Hi thanks for your reply.

I found the folder (the path was a little different like you said) and made the change but this did not seem to have any effect at first. I later copied the advancedsettings.xml file into this same folder and ran the set content option again and - PRESTO! - it worked!

I have no idea if that was supposed to be in there in the first place, but it wasn't.

Thanks for the help.
