I have 3 Xboxes just for XBMC and 1 Tvix for my HD needs that the HD cannot handle.
I really hate the GUI and lack of features on the Twix - probably a side effect of using XBMC since day 1 ;)
I miss the library and I was thinking... Maybe XBMC could start playing the movie on the Tvix when it encounters something it cannot handle itself?
This could be from some previous defined logic (x264 files, divx/xvid with more than 700000 pixels) or if framedrops are unacceptable. A fully qualified URL to the media should be sent to the Tvix so it knows where to find the media.

Also "Play Using..." could be extended to include "Play using Tvix1" or something.

On the XBMC screen could just read: "Now playing XXX on Tvix1. Please change AV input to start viewing. OK". A Timer could count down and close the dialog automaticly when the movie is done (of course fastforward etc on the Tvix would mess this up but then there is still the OK button to press).

Now, the questions are:

1. Can the Tvix or other HD players be controlled from outside via some API/webinterface?
2. Does any dev think this feature would be worth spending some hours on?

Now someone might say, just build a Linux box, which I probably will at some point when the hardware is there (very SFF) and the software mature enough (1080p24 HD sound formats)

Certainly but this is hardly something which takes many hours if it's even possible - which it does not appear to be.
I know alot have bought Tvix'es to cover the hole between a real XBMC Setupbox being able to output 1080p24 over HDMI1.3a with HD sound.

HDMI1.3a soundcards are only a few weeks away now. (Asus HDAV1.3) The biggest problem will be to route the new blu-ray formats like DTS-MA, Dolby TrueHD etc. over HDMI since it requires PAP according to the AACS. A protected audio path can never be implemented into xbmc according the AACS due to the fact that xbmc is open source. So what will the xbmc team do about this?

Nothing. We don't support DRM.
