View Full Version : XBMC ReplayTV to PS3?

I've tried everywhich way to configure XBMC to stream Videos from my ReplayTV to my PS3.

Anyone have any idea of how to do this. I tried three different things. Setup in Videos I added a source of rtv://192.168.1.100/ and rtv://192.168.1.100/Video. The first one will correctly connect and retrieve Replay titles and the second correctly retrieves ReplayTV mpeg file names. However in my PS3 when I connect to XBMC media center, under Videos nothing is displayed.

I then added in settings > networks > UPNP Settings > Manage UPnP Shares I added a source of rtv://192.168.1.100/ and also rtv://192.168.1.100/Video and nothing shows up in my PS3 Videos for the XBMC.

What am I doing wrong or is this feature broken. I'm new to XBMC. Thanks

To begin with XBMC's UPnP MediaServer only shares the videos that are in the video library (the database) and as far as I know ReplayTV does not name its video files so that it allows XBMC to do a lookup in order to add it to the database.

Also, I believe that even if you where able to get ReplayTV videos into the database, XBMC does currently not re-share any videos over UPnP that are located on a network share (so the same should be with SMB/Samba shares).

I was able to get the video files in the the database at one point but its a shame that it can't re-share any videos over UPnP which is what I was trying to do. There are two ways to connect to a replay, passing just the IP address will list shows with its full name or "Replay IP"/Video will list the mpeg files.

When I was able to get the videos in the database, the files showed up as 0 byte so it was useless. I just didn't think that this was a advanced kind of feature for media servers these days. I see that folks have done great work on XBMC so far though. It would be nice to have this feature. I'm not at a programmer level where I could develop this myself.

You would think there would be a need for folks out there to re-share these type of connections between media servers and not just ReplayTV's.

http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=The_XBMC_manifestoApply the Law of Diminishing Return - The majority of the effort should be invested in implementing features which have the most benefit and widest general usage by the community.I doubt there are many people out there that would use XBMC to stream recorded shows from a ReplayTV box to PlayStation 3 through XBMC, you can not get much more niche than that IMHO.

Also, to me it even sounds that you do not use actually care to use XBMC as a media-player but only want to use the built-in UPnP client and server to be the means to an end and that end being using the PlayStation 3 as your media-player, not XBMC.

Yeah, it would seem to me that a more productive angle would be to go after either the PlayOn or TVersity developers to add ReplayTV-sourcing to their UPnP servers.
