I am working on a new machine and a new install of XBMC. I am trying to install the skins but this is what I get:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc-skin-default: Depends: xbmc-common (= 2.1a2svn14418-hardy1) but 8.10a3-hardy2 is to be installed
xbmc-skin-pm3: Conflicts: xbmc-skin-default but 2.1a2svn14418-hardy1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

I ran:

dpkg-query -W xbmc

and this is what I get:
xbmc 8.10a3-hardy2

I thought I used the lastest PPA's for hardy - maybe not?

don't try to install xbmc-skin-default. It's depracated. now the default is pm3 (and can be changed to xbmc-skin-xxxx at any moment) which is a dependency for 'xbmc' .
