it is a bit quiet around the aeon 14/15. So whats on with aeon? DJH maybe you can tell us on what you are working on? Better Weather channel? Bug-cleaning? Something exiting new?
I hope AEON is still alive!
I think Duncan planned to release an update over the weekend so I wouldn't think it's too far away.

I am actually in no hurry to see anything new. I have been using it on my every day media center since 14 came out and all is still good. I think one of the svn builds might have messed something up though. I occasionally get a white screen and have to restart xbmc. Other than that I could not be happier.
I'll get round to addressing a few bugs once I've got this work out of the way. Haven't had much time to really look over the bug threads and write a list.
A new Aeon, did someone ask? You have no idea...

I like every new bit of it. In this Forum are many requests about AEON an if i would be the developer of AEON it would be a bit to much.

All I'll say is that while development hasn't stopped on Aeon, it is moving on from what you're using at the moment. I'm working with the guy you know as theDeviL, creator of Fluid. Our goal is to breed the Aeon concept with his skills and vision to create the best skin in the world. We'll keep you posted on every major update with screenshots etc, but for the moment we're still tossing ideas back and forth and seeing what's best and what's possible.
The good news is that we're seeing a 1:1 turnaround of concept to code within a day for most of the designs we've tried out. The advantage of doing Aeon for a year is that nothing's really a secret anymore on the code front, so we can focus energy on what really counts: the design. Sorry to anyone expecting incremental updates to "classic" Aeon. All I can say is that your patience will be rewarded. Also, any content you collect for Aeon like backdrops and nfos will be very much accommodated by its successor.
I need to make something explicit when posting this: what you see here is realtime and boasts the full gamut of animation, etc, but is not final. It's not even to be considered a faithful representation of what Aeon's about to become. I'm making it public simply to allay any fears that we're sat on our arses and to give you some insight into how we're doing things. A lot of concepts are being devised, realised, modified and discarded to ensure that this new Aeon arrives complete and in the best possible shape. This, then, is just one of several prototypes we're messing around with and signifies nothing, not even necessarily a direction. Hopefully, though, it gives you a slight impression of the quality bar that's been set and our desire to keep you "in the loop" over the coming weeks. Just think: if this is from the reject bin, what does that bode for the production model?

Can I just say a big THANKYOU for deciding to keep up posted with occasional updates... even if we have to wait a while for the final product, it's always nice to know what's going on, keeps the anticipation fresh and whets our appetite to see what the future will bring.
I have to say this next revision of Aeon, even from that one shot, looks exciting!

I wouldn't call it a revision, tbh. Of all the stuff we've toyed with so far, that modified Showcase (we're calling it Skyline 'cause of how it looks when unfocused) is by far the most recognisable. Everything else adheres to the Aeon philosophy (especially its custom backdrop support) but has changed a lot. Hell, I wouldn't even bank on this view looking similar or even appearing at all. Exciting times indeed.

Looks real good DJH... definately a theDevil influence in there, which is great... looking forward to what's about to come... some surprises i can imagine... but the aeon philosophy has always been a good one... exciting times are approaching for xbmc fans... can't wait!

All I can really say is that I'm VERY excited about this collaboration. You two have about the closest taste/aesthetics to my own that I have seen (crn is on that list too but he doesn't do xbmc skins) so I'm anticipating some great things to come out of this. I love using AEON and I was salivating from theDevil's Fluid mockups many months ago but was a bit disappointed that MediaStream ended up looking nothing like it in the end. The functionality in that skin is GREAT but the overall aesthetics just don't seem quite right to me. I think you guys are about to create the skin I've been looking for this whole time. Its great that you can dedicate so much time to a project like this. If I can help in anyway let me know (even if its just testing for bugs on a mac mini).

The only thing I ask is to keep the the original simplicity of the skin. If that can't be done please add a 'kiosk' mode to strip it all out.
DJH/devil - if that's an early dev screen, then I'll be doing a little sex wee when the finished article arrives. Bloody fantastic stuff. And be a dear and share that joker wallpaper with us!

I'm sure we're not the only people that are drooling at the thought of an even crisper Aeon.
A few things...
1. With the larger poster graphics and such...how is this puppy gonna fare for us Xbox users? I know that Aeon is/was originally intended for full-HD playback, but is it still going to be accessible for the Xbox people? I do plan on building a HTPC soon, but in the meanwhile, I'd love to be able to keep using Aeon.
2. I too really enjoy the larger fonts and posters. I understand that that was just a rough idea...but I would maybe suggest keeping the info box at the same height as the poster. I think it throws the balance off a little with the box dropping all the way down like that. Perhaps its just the absence of the info tags. :D
3. Have you given any thought to color schemes?
4. Is there going to be an animation for when the poster slides back into the showcase? I know in the last incarnation of Aeon that highlighting another move after the info was being displayed would result in almost a hard-cut back to the list.
Okay...that's it. Again...this skin is effing awesome. I've spent more time in the past month or so making custom graphics for Aeon and then just sitting there staring at them on my TV. I'm very glad to see that you're still keeping at it, and that your new partnership didn't lead to some drastic changes that moved the skin too far away from the Aeon we know and love.
Cannot wait to see the next release. Hurry, damn you!!! :grin::grin:

I'm not making requests. I'm just curious as to what lies in the future of Aeon. I'm not demanding or requesting anything...was just wondering about a few bases that hadn't been covered in the past.

I can't wait to see the next build .. its been a long time since the alpha14 rls .. since then MediaStream came out .. i dl .. tried it .. and went back to Aeon in under 10 minutes .. there is not comparison

Thanks for the hard work. First time question. Can you "please" put in a dvd menu button in the pop up menu when watching a streaming dvd. I need it to go back to the dvd menu and change subtitles or scenes. All there is is root menu which stops the movie and goes back to the library. Other skins like xTv have a dedicated dvd in the pop up menus when watching a movie.

WoW, this is the best/most slick movie poster frame I have ever seen.
A lot better than the thick glass frame or the jewel case frame.

I'm all for letting sleeping dogs lie, but in 'Internet time' two months without a project update is usually synonymous with the project's death. I'd hate for that to be the case however, given that the original Aeon is still the most attractive skin out there IMHO - yet its lack of completeness has forced me to move on to more up-to-date mods like the very capable Horizonz.
A small sign of life on the part of the devs would not be much effort, and would go a long way.

I agree 2 months is a very long time considering this summer new and huge updates were flowing out weekly. I don't think djh_ would let this die though. From the pics he has posted it looks like he has done a lot of work on the new version of aeon and it would be tough to just let that lay there and die, unless those are just mockups and not the actual skin in action. I did think that when theDevil got on board things would move along again but I don't know how much he is actually helping out. He does have his other skin to work on. Maybe djh_ will farm out some of the tedious parts of the skin to some other people since he is busy and it can get moving again. This skin could take over PM3 if it gets opened up to the world. I hope it happens.

Not sure what other skin you mean? If you are referring to MediaStream then theDevil has nothing to do with it (he was involved with the team originally but left the project fairly early on and the skin that was released bares very little resemblance to what we were doing when he was involved).
If he does have another skin on the go then I'd love to see it as there's no doubt he has a great talent when it comes to design.
