i never had this problem until a month or so ago, it happened all of a sudden, ive tried old and new versions of xbmc (and deleted all files, reupped all files, tried it in both e and f) but it keeps doing the same thing. when loaded, it goes to a black or blank screen and doesn't do anything

here is the log file http://pastebin.com/m6f9d7bfb
i pressed x+y for debug mode, but i don't know if its working

thanks for any help

debug log reads as though XBMC is corrupt or incompletely uploaded, try re-downloading from your source and extracting again, then do a total wipe of XBMC on the xbox and reupload.

i have done this several times, perhaps theres some directory im not getting rid of? what all directories should i wipe besides the main xbmc one (i know previousily i deleted several other directories but it didnt help) also, should i maybe try another ftp client? ive been using flashfxp, its never given me problems in the past but maybe this is the issue?

thanks

try checking the size of the xbmc folder on your xbox vs on your pc, something is definitely amiss, since basically XBMC is reporting several missing files, most importantly the default skin which causes an immediate total failure.

A different client couldn't hurt, smartFTP is free and its what I've always used.

deleted everything and all cache again, uploaded with smartftp, and it didnt work
it looks like the folder is actually larger on the xbox than it is on the pc

According to your debug log [xbmcfolder]\skin\Project Mayhem III\language\english\strings.xml is missing, can you manually confirm its presence?

that's normal. PM3 does not use skin specific strings.

hmm it doesnt seem to be in the folder, or the rar that i downloaded
i got it from here http://217.118.215.116/
is that not a good source for releases?

Oops, then I've been reading this one all wrong, not sure what else to suggest :sniffle:

thanks for your brain power :) maybe it'll suddenly come to you, or someone else will know

Well, you could try some older builds, or try doing something else fairly intensive on your xbox like play a game, maybe you've had a hardware failure of some sort.

you are NOT in debug logging. it's probably locking up before it registers the X+Y combo. force xbmc into debug logging via advancedsettings.xml. search the manual in my sig.

is that what is needed?

i suggest you do not run at 1080i. its not your problem, but it will lead to other problems due to the xbox's memory constraints.

nothing looks abnormal here.

and what exactly did you do here? it looks like you pressed up (or down?) like 8 times then opened something as the play controls were initiated. did xbmc then freeze right after the play controls were brought on-screen?

oh nothing ever showed up on screen, i think i was just trying to restart it w/ the controller

can you hear sounds ? if your tv doesn't support 1080i then maybe thats why you can't see anything?

if thats the case then wiping /xbmc/userdata/guisettings.xml (off the top of my head, i'm not near my regular pc) should hopefully solve your problem, since XBMC will default back to a safe video mode.

actually also check your dashboard, or the microsoft dashboard hasnt got the 1080i setting incorrectly set to on, since XBMC will try to inherit settings from the eeprom iirc.

i had a problem the other day where i would hear the startup sound then just blackness. i solved it by holding down both thumbsticks? might want to give that a go. certianly won't take you long trying it out ;)
