View Full Version : My own feature requests for Aeon...
I have a few feature requests for Aeon, feel free to comment and add more:
1) Show 'Original air date' rather than 'Rating' in TV Episode list mode. Most of the shows on thetvdb don't seem to have a rating but all of them have an air date. This will be especially useful for the 'Recently added episodes' list mode. Would be great if you could also sort on it!
2) Add 'Original air date' to episode info in showcase mode. Can be added to writers / director info line perhaps?
3) Add episode count to genre line in showcase browse mode.
4) Add an option to disable the info screen in showcase mode for TV show level browsing (not episode). I find it a bit distracting when browsing for shows that it shows the info in showcase mode. I know what The Simpsons is about and I don't want to keep reading the same synopsis. I'd rather just look at the posters... However, I like showcase info at the episode level... Perhaps this can be done with custom nfo's??
5) Add an option to disable the menu at the top of the screen! Bit of a radical one but I'd love to see an option to get rid of that pesky menu that keeps stealing focus when I'm navigating. I have all the folders setup perfectly so don't need to change view modes or stacking at all on a day to dat basis. I'd be happy to have to access them from the context or shutdown menu. Getting rid of the menu would hopefully fix some of the focus issues...
6) Make the weather / date / time bar optional. Very low priority but I have a clock on the wall and would rather see my nice backdrops in full glory.
7) Add rating stars (IMDB rating) under the movie title in showcase mode. Think iTunes, i.e 6.7/10 = 6 and a half stars.
8) Add year in ()'s, perhaps in a smaller and/or lighter coloured font after the movie name in showcase browse and info view.
Keep up the lovely work on the skin djh, its fantastic to see the skin evolve and get better with each release. :oo:

I take it you mean for the homescroller? If so then I'd second the request. Add settings to the shutdown menu and I don't have any need for the up/down menus..
This along with disabling the top menu would give the skin a great 'kiosk' mode which even the mother-in-law would not be able to break!

I'd really like to see a setting for backgrounds on the login screen (i have a few profiles that people use) so i see the login screen which currently has a black background. I started to look at the code but i haven't been able to figure out how it works well enough to implement it myself.(i'll keep trying but i thought i'd put in the request.)

I'll second the request to add an option to disable the up down menu in the home screen as well as in showcase view (or for that matter it would be nice to be able to get rid of it in the poster view too).
This ability totally destroys usability for my parents.
Also, rather than having the IMDB rating shown it would be much more useful to have the duration take it's place. After all, just how much value do IMDB ratings have? Rotten Tomatoes ratings would be much more valuable :)
I think AEON is a fantastic achievement and look forward to it developing and stabilizing (feature wise for the purpose of modding).

rotten tomatoes doesnt have as much users who rates movies as in imdb. from what Ive seen anyway, Im talking about smaller films.
I personally think the imdb rating is better. but changing the skin to view grey stars would be a problem because there are ten of them! it would be ugly.

I use theTVDB.com to scrape my TV shows, can you PLEASE bring back A banner view? Something with a nice stacked view on the left or right side of the screen maybe?
Rotten Tomatoes may not have as many reviewers but I think that many reviewers on RT are worth hundreds or even thousands of IMDB reviewers.

I agree... IMDB is swamped by fake accounts used by movie studios and fanboys. I only use IMDB to see how popular a movie is (gauged by the number of votes :p)
RT has good reviews by proper people... maybe even the second set of reviews, the critics reviews, could be used... although sometimes they are a little harsh... not every movie has to be original and breathtaking, but just something to enjoy.
Surely where you get your rating from is independant of the skin and is part of the nfo/scraping process. My feature request should really read 'Show movie rating' rather than 'Show movie IMDB rating'. I just wanted to make a clear difference between a rating of how good a movie is and the mpaa movie rating style classification.

Ok so i figured out how to do it. All i need to do now is add some settings to the settings->aeon->backgrounds area, and add a mask behind the users for when a background is very light (you can't see the users very well when this happens) and then i will submit a patch. (where should i submit the patch?) Is anyone else interested in this.

Weavus, you can easily accomplish this yourself by adding a control in the Aeon settings menu that sets a bool of (kioskmode) or something of that nature. Then you can set all of the controls that you would like turned off in kiosk mode as conditionally visible depending on if the skin has setting (kioskmode). It is something I have been working on for my own skin so that the wife/kids/grandparents can't screw up anything. I am working on have different "levels" of user control. Like giving some users the ability to change absolutely nothing and cannot save playlists. Some the ability to at least change views and make playlists but not be able to refresh tvshows/movies, change thumb, getfanart etc. then of course the master user has total control. I am also making it so that when these options are enabled to restrict access that the buttons/menus etc don't even show up so they don't confuse the less tech savy users.
Thanks for the headsup Rand Al Thor, I'll look into this if djh does not want to support it in the main skin. I'm a little worried about having to keep redoing my work/mod though given the current busy release cycle that Aeon is seeing.

I think djh has stated a few times before he has no interest in this as the skin is designed first and foremost for him and he prefers the poster views. I think this one would need to be a mod by a third party.

Your right here. It was one of the first mods I did to PM3 - go through and turn off all the rating figures. I don't really care how others rate the movies I own.

Also agree. I mean you've already got the movie in your collection so what difference does a rating make anyway - it's not like you're going to remove the film just because it has a low rating.
Would it be difficult to have an option to maintain aspect ratio on the various thumbnails? I know djh doesn't recommend banners but its still what most (all?) scrapers are getting by default. For example the list view would be far less ugly for those of us still using banners if the context sensitive thumbnail on the right would maintain aspect ratio instead of squishing the banner.
I know its not good etiquette to double post but another user pm'd me asking if I could post these requests for him, I'm not sure why he couldn't himself, permissions or something? anyway they seemed like good requests so here they are:
sorry but im a new member and so i dont know why it wont like me make a post in the feature request page. i was wandering if you could make a post in the feature request forum for me thanks man here they are
1. When moving files show a progress bar, also let the file path that is on the left scroll so that you know which file is moving if the file path is long. or maybe just show the file name instead of the entire file path.
2. Have a db (sound) bar that will grow or shrink when you adjust the volume horizontally at the bottom of the screen centered in that back bar.
3. Add a vertical line, an orb, or a "ghost" bar (a bar that is slightly transparent but looks just like the progress bar so to show where the progress bar will go to once you stop moving the thumb stick) to the progress bar that way we can tell how far we will scan ahead when use it on a xbox. because now i am jumping blindly forward into the music or videos.
4. Let the black and white buttons on the xbox controller do as they normally would like show file details and change aspect ratio.
5. If possible let the home screen tiles like "movies" and "clips" be extended according to length of title. like say if you wanted to make it say "Feature Presentations" then the whole title would me shown instead of it scrolling like it does now.
oh also what the hell, bump for my feature request :laugh:
I would like to see in Showcase mode and basically all modes the ability to see the running time of the movie as one of the first things that appear. Either when you are scrolling through or at least in the hover over info page that has the description that scrolls. (sorry if this doesn't make sense). The running time is a key thing to look for when trying to watch some late night movies...
Also, wanted to add a +1 for the Rotten Tomatoes rating instead of IMDB. That would be very cool in my opinion if ratings are going to be included at all.

All you need to do to use RT over IMDB ratings is to start using your own nfo's or edit the library db yourself. All Aeon needs to do is display a rating in a good position. wether it says 8/10, 80%, Very Good or Pink Avocado is down to you not Aeon right?.

You are correct sir ;) Although, I think Pink Avocado is a little extreme. I mean, where do you go from there? Once you rate a movie Pink Avocado it pretty much means it is the best movie.... ever. It must have chuck norris in it.

I downloaded the aeon skin a few days ago and customised it, looks very nice now. Does anyone know how to get the 'duration' in the imdb info of a movie ? It would be very nice to have since we often select movies during weekdays based on duration (don't want to go to bed too late ...).
