View Full Version : Latest XMBC Crashes All the time
I've recently installed a clean version on winxp i have 2 P4 processors and lots of Ram 2 Gig 256M video card.
The problem is that when i use the scripts XMBC freezes and crashes, when i use the webserver access pictures come out bleury and if you request any system info the webserver crashes.
I like what you did with XMBC but i don't think it's ready for real time use, too many bugs, It almost feels like it's too fragile beware at what you request from it cause it's going to crash.
Anyway, if you think i'm worng and feel that it may my config let me know otherwise I am going to look for something more stable that accually works.
Thanks, people like you could really spoil us developing. I have only two things to say:
1) if you want to help us check with other users if they could reproduce the bugs and if yes open a bug report at trac.
2) if you are one of those mama's boy who complain about not getting paid for using open source products, go away and save us your glory effusions.
wow, someone realy pissed in you cereal this morning.
All i'm saying and don't get so nasty cause I WAS NOT, is that if something is not ready for PROD use state that it's in BETA.
Some quotes from the wiki:
The SDL version is the Windows future of XBMC. The codebase is under development and is the base for the Linux, MacOSX and Windows ports.
Why is my video screen smaller than my desktop in full screen?
We're still early alpha. Try to set the XBMC video resolution to your current desktop resolution.
How to install XBMC for Windows (SDL/OpenGL)?
XBMC for Windows is still in experimental stage, there are however install packages available for easy installation.
Either do something productive and write bug reports with debug logs and steps to reproduce (and use the bugtracker), or please go and use something stable and don't annoy the developers with stupid rambling.

Uncalled for, man. You provided no details that would possibly help the developers (I'm not one of them) figure out if there are legitimate problems. And then insult the product while asking for help?
More importantly, this is free, open-source software that these guys write in their own time for fun. Even if it were as buggy as you state (it's not), that would not be an excuse for taking shots at the people who work on it.
This is the best media center product out there. I'm using it on an original Xbox, Windows, and Linux. If you don't have the patience or ability to get it to work, then you probably should look for something else. Don't piss off the developers that make the rest of us happy.

Gill i think you are mistaken this media center has been fully functional on the xbox for a few years now the only versions that are buggy are the ports in the works windows and linux, and if i recall its quite apparent from the forum that they are works in progress. that being stated they never released these versions publicly you'll notice this is the XBMC.ORG forum right as in the home of it as in not exactly advertised as available to the world. the developers are letting us toy with them and see how things work so they know what to work on further, kinda like beta testing. they don't call it a beta because theres no need to everyone knows not completed, either way the problems you have are just like the problems i have, you know what i do when it crashes? start it back up! i am only using the windows as a time killer and test station for the 3 xboxs in the house. i can watch pretty much everything aslong as i let the system do its thing just be gentle its not that much to ask. once this gets fully functional there isn't going to be anything like it for the pc just wait, this revolutionized the original xbox and it is going to truely integrate the pc into every home theater setup in the world after this.

please don't post here anymore. XBMC is a wonderful product and it would be a real shame if only one developer left the project because of you.
Hello Rayodin88
writen like a true gentelmen, unlike some of the other parasites responding like animal's.
I totally agree with you but as I stated earlier"I like what you did with XBMC" dont get me wrong it's just that when your looking for something that was prononced stable in Novembre 2006 i was under the impression that i get a lot more use out of it, like you say maybe at a later time.

Gill: Thanks very much for your input. Please track down a reproducible bug (which apparently should be easy?) and post a bug report as requested by WiSo on trac.

well i am glad that i could explain things for you a manner that appealed to you. don't mind the other feedback you have gotten, they were all well intentioned, however sometimes we as a community are a little quick to the defensive. as was stated both in my message and in one shortly afterwards, the xbox version is the only stable version released and that was official some years ago, linux and windows are to my knowledge still being worked on heavily.
I have been using XBMC since i first modded my xbox a few years back, and have since then given it and hours of endless fun to many friends and family. I started with just my box then got one for the bedroom then another for the upstairs living room, modded and set it up on about 20 other xboxs for friends and family, and have recently been dabbling in the windows version as i am trying to built a HTPC for the living room.
anyway as I was Saying this is a very stable build FOR the xbox, however you may want to look elsewhere if you need something reliable and stable this minute, because there is much to go on the windows side still. I use it and it works for me, but in the PC field there are a thousand times more variables than in the xbox world. although in the time I have been following it they have been making leaps and bounds in its development and in a relatively short amount of time if you ask me, I am loving my favorite media software on my much better PC hardware
Ok guys, back to topic.
@Gill: We're still alpha and your help is needed. If you're not familiar with trac you can at least start a thread in the bug forum with instructions on how to reproduce.
Thanks,
WiSo
