View Full Version : XBox won't save date and time

Every time I turn on my xbox, it asks me to set the date and time. I then have to turn the power off and back on VERY quickly to get to XBMC. If I don't turn it back on quick enough, it will go back to the default date and time and ask me to set it again.
This problem started about a week ago. I've been using XBMC for around 7 or 8 months without any issues.
I've read that the XBox uses an aerogel cap to retain the date and time, so I checked the MB, but none of the caps look like they are bad.
I guess my question at this point is: are there any settings that might have gotten changed to cause this problem? Or is it most likely a bad cap that just doesn't look bad?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Is you Xbox hardware modded (as in a modchip) or software modded (as in an softmood exploit)?

...it sounds to me like it is hardware modded and the the modchip is acting up or even just got a loose connection so I suggest that you check that, if it is a softmod mod then I suggest you softmod it again to make sure that the exploit is installed correctly.

In either case this does not belong in the XBMC forum as the problem is deffinitly with your Xbox and not with XBMC, try xbox-scene.com (http://www.xbox-scene.com) forums instead.

Xbox does not have battery power clock.
The clock resets after about 6h without electricity.

im just pawing at some recollection i have of this problem. i think i remember hearing that if you set the time and then leave the xbox plugged in idle for 6h or so, the battery in hte clock gets rejuiced and you solve the problem.

http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Clock_Loop_Problem_HOWTO

is that what you're experiecning?

[quote=The method described above has shown not to be completely reliable. The dashboard runs multiple threads of execution at a time, and the time correlation of these threads depends on many external factors, like hard disk spin up time, DVD drive and controller response time. In some cases, the Dashboard loads the fonts while the Xbox is in a different state, so the exploit will not work and the Xbox will reboot.

Another more severe problem can be caused when unplugging the Xbox for several hours. The Xbox has no built-in battery to keep the clock alive, instead it has a capacitor that only lasts for some time when the Xbox is unplugged. Generally, the lifespan of the capacitors' charge is at least a few hours. It's better not to leave it unplugged for longer than this, if you can avoid it, as it is likely to loop when rebooted.

If the Xbox loses the clock, the Dashboard will start up differently and present a dialog to enter the time. This can be a problem for the font trick: As the Xbox is in a different state now, the font trick might not work and the Xbox might loop.]

you saying that you ahve to boot it "quickly" defiantely sounds similar.

I have the same issue with my softmodded xbox. Instead of turning on and off quickly, do a 4 finger reset (both triggers, start, and select at the same time) and it will load the dashboard whether or not you set the time.
