It's time for me to contribute to this beautiful project.
I took many ideas from available XBMC PlugIns (Many thanks to every developer here).

The new video plugin "VideoMonkey" can be downloaded from here (http://www.box.net/shared/vj51k7484k) or from the plugins online repository (http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-addons/).

Everyone with basic RegEx knowledge (like me) can add new video site catchers easily (see file youtube.com.cfg). YouTube (com, de, fr, nl), Dailymotion (com, de, fr, nl), Metacafe and others are included. Feel free to post new suggestions or critics.

I'm glad to see that you tried to deal with the cfg files.
It was not possible to add tu.tv without touching the python part of the plugin (at least with the catcher page that i found that supports TUtv (TUtv is a nice page by the way)).

It is possible to eliminate the retrieval time. But for now we will loose the dowload functionality (using Switch media -> Filemanager). When the download and player selection options are implemented, i will adapt the plugin to catch the direct link to the file when you select the video and not when the page is loaded.

It was working for me in rev. 13988
But I updated to 14004 last night and there must have been a change to the code because it is not working any longer.
I updated to the latest VideoMonkey version, still no change.
I go back to rev. 13988 and it works well.
I am likely going to rebuild XBMC from scratch before I comment further..

At this point I'm updating everything daily. I probably won't be able to keep up this pace (because of holiday's and work), but I'll do my best to update as often as possible. I'm updating everything possible from the available SVN repositories. So all should be as up to date as possible.

Dive into regex and start coding I'd say. The purpose of this plugin is to make it 'easy' to add sites yourself. Getting the hang of regex can take same time, but it sure is worth it :) (I'm getting there)

I'd like that to. It would mean the plugin would have to scan your current installation for plugins/scripts/skins, compare that with the plugins available on the server and there must be version control system of some kind.

I could add a file with a version definition in it for each plugin/script/skin, but that would mean a lot more work maintaining the files.

I also would like to add a changelog that can be viewed from the XBMC installaton. But mI really need to find the time to learn some python. Python is not very difficult to learn, but it will take some time for me to master it. Time I don't have at this moment because I'm working 60 to 70 hours a week. In a few months I'll have more time. Then I can give it a try.

If anyone else would like to play with the plugin code....be my guest!

I've added a Linux version of the plugin to my google page. If all is well with the plugin in Linux I will combine the linux and xbox version and add windows and OSX support.

To bad VideoMonkey is not working in XBMC for Linux. But that might be a XBMC for Linux flaw :)

This is definitly the best video plugin i have seen so far. I think the concept of including the videosites via config-files is brilliant. Now everyone can contribute new site and fix broken ones.

I have made one observation though:

By default VideoMonkey uses dvdplayer for all streams. This one has problems with the wmv format used by ZDF-Medithek, so u have configure mplayer
as the standard in settings.xml. On the other hand, for flv. video dvdplayer is the preferred choice, as it handles them much better.

My idea is to configure the playertype not only in the settings but also in the .cfg files. I made a quick hack so you can specify the playertype site specific by including the variable "playertype=" in the sites config file. eg. playertype=1 for mplayer.

I have uploaded the default.py here (http://rapidshare.com/files/129952808/default.py.html), so you can check it out.

Maybe it will be good to provide PLAYER_CORE_AUTO in the plugin settings. Then we will have:

- PLAYER_CORE_AUTO
- PLAYER_CORE_DVDPLAYER
- PLAYER_CORE_MPLAYER

unfortunatelly, I am not able to run it. I only get an error "Error running VideoMonkey. Reason: list index out of range"

I tried with my "old" june 16th build of XBMC. It go that error and updated assuming there were some changes to the python engine. Still, with july 15th build I get the same error.

I am running the "current" version of your script, dated july 15th as well.

I have yet another idea for improvement.
ZDF-Mediathek on XBMC is great. There is one annoying thing though:
When i want to watch the newest episode of a specific show, its hard to find out which item is the most recent, because right now the videos are not sorted by date.
So why not use the power of XBMC by specifing a video-date. This is possible via the listitem.setInfo command:

listitem.setInfo("video", {"Title":titlevariable, "Date": datevariable})

Now the videos can be sorted by date.

I dont know exactly what date format is expected (a documentation about the plugin api is still missing).
From a quick look at the code of Apple Movie Trailer Plugin, its probably YEAR-MONTH-DAY format.

The date for the ZDF video can be extracted with regex from the json "assetUrl" tag which is e.g.

The date of this video is 2008-07-14.

As i am neither good at regex nor python here are just some code snippets to help sfaxman to include this idea in an upcoming release:

I confirm that pornhub is broken... but redtube works incl. search function (old version? ???).
I will try to keep this download link (http://www.box.net/shared/vj51k7484k) up to date as not everyone wants to checkout the svn.
It will be better if we keep this thread for technical discussions and use this one (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34959) for user support and wisches.

Curious if you've thought of writing a little tutorial on adding more sites to make it more comprehensive to your plugin specifically. I was curious if a catcher is necessary to play videos from a site or just to download them, cause many sites don't have compatible catchers. The format of adding sites seems fairly easy, as the changes between each .cfg are simple, but I'm not clear on what exactly I'm trying to process from each site.

Maybe you could categorize the "Live" and "TV" categories by country or language. I'm lovin your plugin. The amount of stream sources is growing rapidly and to have quick access to the streams you want (and keep it that way) folders for every country would be nice!

Once I find some time I'll try to add some Dutch streams (like uitzending gemist).

You're doing nothing wrong. Some RegEx for Dailymotion are outdated (page format changed :sniffle: Take a look on the dailymotion cfg files). I will fix them asap.

Dailymotion is fixed :grin: (The search word suggestions are regrettably gone :no:)

Windows seems to have problems with "socket.setdefaulttimeout" :oo:. So windows users should for now comment or remove line 28 of the default.py file.

I do use XBMC on xbox. I downloaded VideoMonkey, FTP'd into Q:/plugin/video on the xbox from PC. Copied VideoMonkey onto the xbox at this location. I then select VideoMonkey on the Xbox under the Video heading and I get the error message as stated before.

I have followed the video guide. Have I installed in the wrong location?. Should it be installed on Q:/plugin/progams? or somewhere else?

I have a special request here of a Thai girls community, living in Germany, who would like to watch their Thai TV via the Internet, each of them using a neat little softmodded Xbox instead of a regular PC, which is unconvinient for this purpose.

This site: http://www.thailivetv.com/live_thai_tv.html has links to all their channels (most important Channel 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11). Do you think that you could implement these channels into your Plugin? This would be really something to them.

Yes, the file is there. I already did a whole XBMC-reinstallation after erasing the main XBMC-folder and I tried to install the 30. June XBMC Release as I thought that the 15. July Release might have a bug or something, but no success.

If everything fails I will try it on two different Xboxes that I will receive within the next few day after I softmodded them. I will get it working, no doubt.

I feel that not the media center is the problem but that I am missing some required system files. But after softmodding the new Xboxes with the Xbox Auto-Installer Deluxe Version 4.30, I will try it out there and see if it works there (and I am sure it will). Then I will start comparing the new installation with the one on the Xbox that I have here now and see what is dissing/different.

This would really be great if you could get all the Thai channels implemented. I will get all the different Xboxes that I will receive here within the next few days working. This is also a promise. And then all this little Thai girls around here will be very happy, as it means a lot to them if they can watch their Thai soaps on TV and the news and so on. It makes them feel at home.

It is hard to believe at what low prices these Xboxes change their owner via eBay nowadays. It is a perfect Media PC, besides it's gaming functionality. But you can get a plain Xbox for less than 40,- Euros, including the shipping.

Merci :laugh: ... But from a technical view is my plugin nothing compared to the AMT II or the OpenSubtitles plugins for example. Maybe the Idea was not bad.

And i think, writing a plugin is much much easier as writing a script.

This site uses SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) :sad: ... It will be hard to add it. For the german content i will add the ARDMediathek and RTLNow at first (their content can be catched easily). The ZDFMediathek will be reworked too. I think i will find the time next week. I move to Munich this week (new job :grin:) It is now a little bit stressful :sniffle:

However: I've got a problem. After having installed the plugin, I am able to see titles of videos. When I try to open them, I get the error "loading directory. retrieved 0 items". This happens with all "channels/sites".

What am I doing wrong? I've got the lastest version of XBMC.

If were watching a film on say Ninjavideo, and the film has just stopped playing for know reason, the following is what do - Restart the film , then we get to just before the film went off and we press menu on the dvd remote so that the dvd controls appear on screen, click the down button on remote untill you are on the lowest dvd onscreen control option, then press select, this gives you an option to create a bookmark at which ever part of the film you are at, so if the film goes of again you must restart the film again, only need to see the film start to play on screen for a few seconds, then press menu on the dvd remote so that the dvd controls appear on screen, click the down button untill you are on the lowest dvd onscreen control option, then press select, you will see a the bookmark you created, using the dvd remote highlight the thumbnail and press select, this will jump into the film at whichever point you created the bookmark, depending on your internet connection you will buffer for a few seconds then the film will start from where it left of and more often that not it will play through the bit it stopped at originally. eg we have a 4mb internet connection and if im starting a bookmark at 45mins into film it takes about no more that 10 seconds to get to that part of film and start playing.

Because these are internet streams when you turn of the xbox the bookmark that you have created disappears unfortunately. All the above is done without turning of the xbox. Not sure what controls you press on the game controller.

Now when watching streamed films we make regular bookmarks say every 10 mins, so we can jump straight back to roughly were the film was at if it stopped playing

all "channels/sites" ??? Do you use XBMC under Windoes? Windows seems to have problems with "socket.setdefaulttimeout" :sniffle: So you should for now comment or remove line 26 of the default.py file (was mentioned before :rolleyes:).
I think the live streams do not work under Windows. But all other pages should.

Strange - now it works again - on which drive the Plugin tries to cache the stream?
I cleaned drive E from unnecessary files (before ~25MB free, now 219MB free), restartet the box and it works again.

ZDFMediathek will be reworked... It is one of the first pages added and the plugin has now many new feautures that this page can profit from.

In the current version there is a nice new feature: the first listing (first directory content when you select the plugin) is fully customisable :cool: Everyone can add or remove favourite sites and streams to this page using the context menu (new add and remove shortcuts options). Open the context menu of a video site or stream and you will see it.

Curious how hard it would be to incorporate into the coding of VideoMonkey. Like I mentioned in my other thread, I'd be happy to share my list, if it was made useable, without spoofing a url, it's currently useless on the xbox.

I'm not sure to understand your target. Do you want to fake the referer when you send a http request? VideoMonkey does it already with some catcher sites (see catcher.list). For example it was not possible to use the site viloader.net without faking the referer to 'http://www.viloader.net' in the http-post header. I used a network sniffer to find out the obligatory http header fields and cookies.

Do we think in the same direction or is it something kompletely different what you mentioned ???

P2P Applications are not illegal. They do not contain anything illegal. Downloading movies using p2p applications is illegal.

If setting a referer in the http-post headers is illegal. This mechanism will be removed. There is enough alternatives.

I do not believe that it IS illigal, and definately don't think it should be removed, like I said. XBMC Scrapers ALREADY use this method of retrieving data and it is spelled out clearly on how to use it within a scraper.xml Like I said in another post, why should it be any different based on the information your pulling. As far as I'm concerned if the scraper.xml clearly uses Url Spoofing, then it should be fair use anywhere in xbmc.

As for finding more protections, us xbmc users are not going to be the driving force behind increasing security on streaming videos.

Sfaxman, if it's already being used in the plugin, I will investigate further into the tu.tv .cfg and is if I can figure it out there.

You are pretty much saying your doing exactly what I want.

I want to access a direct link (like used for the live streams), sending a spoofed url as the http-referrer. Because otherwise the video refuses to load.

I checked the catcher.list and noticed that it's used 2x in there.

I've tried keeping it simple and making an another live feed entry. However I feared it wouldn't work as it was a direct link to a .flv file.

I guess a couple quick questions.

One is the header=referer entry used in catcher.list available to use in the .cfg when trying to pull a movie or will something have to be coded in the .py?

Two can VideoMonkey actually handle a direct link to a movie file, in this example it's a .flv

I tried using this in the live.en.cfg, however it didn't work, perhaps due to type=live and it not being a live stream? I noticed that there's types rss, and adult_rss, and live, but didn't notice anything that might work better. Any suggestions?

These catcher sites help the plugin finding the direct link to the video clips. They are not needed if the direct links to the videos can be found on the site itself.
In every cfg file there is RegEx rules for videos and categories. In youtube.com.cfg you can find a list of all the parameter values.

No, all the conditions in the cfg files are checked in every site. A directory can be categories, subcategories, sorting, etc... What ever you want. dir_type=flat is a cool option: The content of a category is then listed directly (see myspass.de.cfg). Sorry but i don't have the time now to describe the cfgs in detail. You have for now to analyze the cfg files included in the plugin :sad: But a howto will come soon :;): Promized.

I now got the additional Xboxes that I told you about softmodded and your Plugin works like a charm. After correcting the system files on the 1st Xbox, it also works there now.

This Thai girls community that I told you about is very glad and happy about this Xboxes and in particular your Plugin. They use their Broadband to watch their Thai soaps via those Xboxes now. Great! There are some more girls that asked me to get a cheap Xbox via eBay and softmod it for the, so they can watch their stuff on it. I was surprised on how many Thai channels you digged up on the net. But the most important ones are 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 (but 11 is more kind of a documentary channel) and only 9 and 11 have been implemented in your Plugin. Are there any problems with 3, 5 and 7, as those channels have not been implemented?

Increased the Internet Cache to 8192kB and ZDF Mediathek works again without freezing. For me the Alpha Centauri unfortunately don't work. Might this depend on running the XBMC at 1080i | 16:9 via component cable?

I have the same problem: XBMC freezes when opening the the zdf videos.
It seems to be a problem related to wmv-streaming. Strangely enough this happens not every time, but occassionaly. can't reproduce what makes it working or crashing...
This bug occured starting with svn from february or march. Before, i didnt have any wmv-crashing at all.

I am sorry, but there seems to be a problem. :(

When I try to use "Joox" portion of your plugin to play a video stream, it pops up a window with a loading bar, and says something about "demux." After this, the loading bar and window both disappear, leaving me again at the directory of the video I wish to watch, which includes the name of the video, and also files called "Part 1" and "Source 1."

I have changed all of my cache buffers to various sizes and this changes nothing. :(

What can be done?

Also, can MegaVideo support please be added? The "Megavideo" plugin for XBMC does not result in video playback, only in searching. :(

This bug occured starting with svn from february or march. Before, i didnt have any wmv-crashing at all.

Not only wmv-streams. I noticed this behaviour with many live streams (the plugin is not executed when these streams are selected. On plugin side is nothing doable).

Am I the only one who cannot get this script to work?. I have tried it on two versions of xbmc (one dated a bit packaged with a Slayer disc and the newest PIMP3D dated 2008-08-03). The older XBMC doesn't load it at all, no error. The newest XBMC reports back

I would really like to try this plugin, but it doesn't work in Plex 0.5.14 (www.plexapp.com), which is XBMC for the Mac. Have you heard from other Plex users on this or is it just me (I don't think so)?

Youtube is not broken :eek: I will update my XBMC version and try to reproduce it. Has anyone else the same problem? I just checked youtube, googlevideo and dailymotion. the first two sites seem to be ok. Dailymotion was broken. It is fixed now.

On the latest atlantis release, when i click plugin settings from the context menu i can see a popup dialog with controls, but the labels aren't visible. I tested it on the pm:hd and the mediastream skin. Both exhibit the same problem. I also tried to reset my userdata, and totally reinstalling xbmc on my ubuntu machine. Nothing provided a solution, so maybe it's a good heads up?

Also maybe it's a good idea to provide all the icons in videomonkey itself with labels, that will enhance the readablilty on skins like mediastream a lot.

Correct, But the labels in the plugin settings aren't visible. Here is an link to a screenshot that shows what I meant:

Have Atlantis Bets 2, downloaded latest Videomonkey. Moved Videomonkey folder to Plugins Video folder in xbmc. VM starts and comes up with dowloading list (or something like that) then screen blanks and XBMC quites with error 10 and I think once before 65 or 55.

Before I continue...maybe this isn't supposed to work on ATV?

Any suggestions if it supposed to work?

Try changing the default download directory (edit manually the file 'settings.xml' in the directory 'resources' if it is not possible over the context menu). Sorry but i do not have an apple box

Thanks for your input...I can't get it to work and don't know enough about plugins and the ATV with XBMC support. The Apple Movie Trailers works fine and its settings.xml references the F drive too. So, I guess it is a no go on VideoMonkey on ATV.

Yes i had the same result also on beta 2, could only view live sports. after i click on a folder ie. southpark, then season 1, it wil just go back to the list of seasons.

Not sure if you have the same problem, but for me VideoMonkey started to work when I commented socket.setdefaulttimeout(20) from the beginning of the plugin code.

You need to enable adult content in the script settings,witch is in the context menu I believe.You can get to it with the white button on your controller while at Video Plugings/Video Monkey if your using XBMC for xbox.

The latest version of this plugin is always available for download with the XBMC-Favorites plugin (link in sig). I check if a new version is available whenever I can. Updates are added more or less every 7 days (if there are updates).
