I just upgraded my retail hd to a wd 250Gb hard drive, had various problems but finally got there. I have ftp'd all files from C and E from the retail hd to the new one. Now when I turn it on nothing happens except the x3 loights (network and hd) flash. If I add the Quicklaunch from the X3 config live to XBMC then when I reboot and hold the trigger down it works fine...
When in XBMC all works fine but as I dont use the original controller holding the trigger down is a real pain! Have I changed something unknowingly?!
check the dashboard priority in the X3 config. you need a xbe shortcut named like one of them in c:\

As I copied the contents of "C" accross this includes xbe for xbmc to be the default dash, I used the x3 config tool and selected the order, but still no good!
dunno its an X3 problem. if quicklaunch works, your xbmc install is fine.
I'm using an X3 as well; can you boot to stock mode ok? If no, check to make sure you have the HDD locked. If it's a 250GB that doesn't support locking, the test above will be a moot exercise.
I set my boot drive to F and renamed a dashboard filename to XBMC.XBE and placed it first in the dashboard priority.

PS: My XBMC.XBE is a pointer to F:\APPS\XBMC\default.xbe

what is stock mode?
it is about 2 years since I last had to do anything with this xbox so I am a little rusty.... all my apps are copied to E not F. the hard drive was not locked, what does this actually do?
also remind me how to edit xbe files.

All working, seems when I ftp'd it all over from the original HD it put the apps in a folder called HDD Loader, I thought at the time it looked weird, so moved them into the root E://apps and all worked fine....
thanks any way
