I just wanna get an idea of where the users are at. No comments necessary. If the version you're using isn't on the list or you aren't using Ubuntu, please don't vote.

EDIT: Since people can't read and posted (and I imagine people won't read this either), ANY questions posted in this thread WILL BE DELETED.

7.04

if your going to say anything, give more information:
motherboard type, videotype, cpu... and how well it works, in your opinion

Linux:hardy 8.04, latest ppa of xbmc unstable.
motherboard+vga:Asus P5N-EM HDMI (Geforce 7100)
cpu: E6750
memory: 2x2gb mushkin 800mhz
Powersupply: 400watt Coolermaster
Hd: none
USB: 8gb

everything works as expected, quality is nice no problems, but only play 720p because of limited 'sources' ;)

I'm running two different boxes: one with 7.10 and one with 8.04. I voted for 8.04 since only one choice is allowed.

Yes. POLL. As in vote and look at results. There always has to be one dumbass that doesn't read and everyone else follows. Now we have 5 completely useless posts (icekiller's could be useful I spose).

No problem found right now, testing some 720p/1080p *.mkv from rar archive right now, stream from SMB.
Will do some music playback later.
Smooth :)

8.04

P4 3.0ghz
2gb RAM
nVidia 8600 GT using component out

It's more stable than the windows version (which I run on the same box) but I can't find a setting that doesn't exhibit tearing on video playback (but I have other threads addressing that).

In spite of the tearing, it plays most sources I've thrown at it just fine.

Otherwise, runs relatively fine.

Running it on Mint 5.0, with ATI X1400, intel 2.0 GHz with EnvyNG drivers, seems smooth, no problems so far.

Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" Alpha 1 Released, and could do with some XBMC testing as well:
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha1
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/intrepid/alpha-1/
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-announce/2008-June/000440.html

Note! Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 1 is far from meeting the quality standards for end-users (there isn't even a desktop LiveCD spin of this release), but that shouldn't stop developers and 'advanced' XBMC users from playing with it and reporting any issues to us and/or Ubuntu. "Pre-releases of Intrepid are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs."

PS! Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" Alpha 2 should be out by the middle of July.

http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34538Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" Alpha 2 have been released and could do with some XBMC testing:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-announce/2008-July/000451.html
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha2/
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/intrepid/alpha-2/

In Alpha 2, the kernel used is based upon Linux 2.6.26-rc8 and the latest bits for X.Org 7.4 with X Server 1.5 are now in place. X.Org 7.4 has yet to be officially released, but it's getting closer to release now, (please have understanding that the new cutting-edge features in X.Org 7.4 will in the short term cause increased instability for some users while the video drivers catch up).

Intrepid Alpha 2 images are available for Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, and Xubuntu. Like Alpha 1, LiveCD images for Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 2 are not yet available but they should hopefully start appearing with Alpha 3. Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 3 is planned to be release in two weeks (so around the 24th of July 2008).

Note! Again, Alpha pre-releases of Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" are not encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and/or fixing bugs.
