hello, firstly i hope this is in the right forum-- it's not really a support question.
i have xbmc running fine. great program, really love it.
however, i'd like to know which is the recommended format to use for optimal performance and playback.
basically, i want to create an ntsc full size (720x480x29.97) video to be played back from the hd rather than streamed.
i've experimented with xvid, divx and quicktime, as well as a few others, and so far i have found rmvb (realvideo 9) to be the best. the problem with that is that the support for realvideo seems to vary in each build... so i keep going back to the one that works for me (04-19 at the time of writing).
but my question is, is there something that should produce equal or better results that i'm overlooking?
fyi, everything is sourced from dv, and run through discreet cleaner xl...

i'd suggest divx.

yes, divx does seem to be very stable on xbmc, however, i have found the quality doesn't seem to be as good as realvideo (tested mostly on edited video footage), even when i encode to the divx high-def profile
