i have a v1.0 xbox with an enigmah chip (yes its old i know, i put it in when they first came out and had no reason to upgrade, until maybe now). i am having a problem with xbmc where it just hangs at the evolution-x screen (the green one with the oval shaped logo). my config is fine, and no log file is created so i assume that it is not even running the xbmc binary. does anyone have any suggestions, or do you think i just need a newer mod chip?

i have xbox media player installed, and that works fine. so i know my chip is functioning properly.

has your xbmc's default.xbe file been patched for retail? depending on where you got it from it may not have been, in which case you'll need to do it yourself. (you should be able to find the xbepatch tool on xbox-scene, it's really easy to use)

make sure xbmc's .xbe is patched to retail (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/downloads/dx-dexbe-0.5.fixed.zip) and test, if still problem then follow this faq; http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/info_faq.htm#evolution-x. if still have problem try another build of xbmc (after deleted both both “0face008” folders under e:\udata & e:\tdata), if still problem post xbmc.log

the weird thing is that it is not even creating a log file. it just hangs on that evo-x logo. i checked the hd for the log to no avail. i will try patching to retail. out of curiosity, what does that do?

is this a possiblility due to my enigmah chip? because my buddy that has an xecutor 2.2 pro used the debug xbe file and it worked. i'll try this as soon as i get home anyways.

that's exactly what would happend if it hasn't been patched for retail.
the 1st gen enigmah chips can't load debug .xbe files, which is why your friend with an xecuter doesn't have a problem.
i also have an enigmah mod, but get around the shortcomings of it by using the phoenix bios loader to load an xecuter bios when my xbox is turned on.

have you succesfully ran programs that did not work under debug when patched for release? also, to use the phoenix bios loader do i have to solder anything, or can i just do it as my xbox is now? if i have to open it up to solder anything i'll just put a new chip in. at least the release patch will let me run xbmc, which is really all i want to do right now.

thanks for your help by the way, i really appreciate it!

i don't quite understand your first question. i couldn't run debug .xbe files unless i patched them to be retail when i was just using an engimah modchip, but now that i'm running the phoenix bios loader it doesn't matter if it's a debug or retail xbe.
phoenix bios loader is just a piece of software, there's no soldering or anything. there are loads of tutorials on xbox-scene about setting it up if you're interested. although you could just patch the xbe file to make it retail instead, as it's a lot easier to do than setting up phoenix bios loader.
