I know this is a long shot, I should know better but has anyone tried replacing the HD dvd player inside the external case with an identical (mini atapi) blu ray drive and had any success playing blu ray discs on their 360?

What does this have to do with XBMC? You do know that XBMC for Xbox is for the original Xbox right and not for Xbox360, right?

Perhaps there is a reason it's in the comedy forum? ;)

Sounds doable to me! You never know, it might even be able to play PS3 games if you do that!

This would never be possible with the 360. You'd have much better luck trying this:

1. Take your external HD-DVD player for the 360 and place it on a flat, stable surface.

2. Now, get a 2-gauge hammer (claw hammer works if 2-gauge is not available). Hold the head of the hammer about 8-10 inches above the surface of the player.

3. With a fast, hard motion, bring the hammer down onto the top of the player.

4. Repeat until the drive sounds like a maraca when you shake it.

5. Connect the drive to your XBOX1.

6. You should now be able to play Blu-Ray discs, HD-DVD's, PS3 games, as well as Dreamcast and N64/wii games.

digitalhigh......

You forgot to mention that steps 2, 3, and 4 will work on most ANY electronic device.

You are CORRECT, Sir. :D

Works especially well in getting NES games to work on the 360. Place cartridge on top of 360, perform steps 2, 3, and 4, and you have a 360NES system. Jeah.

I do not, however, take responsibility if something goes wrong and you accidentally break something. ;)

I once fixed a DVD player with steps 2, 3, and 4. To this day, it still works as good as the day I fixed it.

The secret to not breaking things with this fix method is to really SWING that hammer, and be sure to make FULL contact with the device. AND follow thru.

Follow thru is VERY important......it causes the device to go into debug mode. That log will tell you why the device isn't working.

I see where your coming from on HD DVD drive swap... as technically the 360's external players is just a USB caddie with a HD DVD drive in it... and Vista/XP both work with the 360's drive.... could be worth trying there for starters.... could just work out as an expensive..... well... drive caddie, and I'm pretty sure M$ will have locked it down with all the press on it.

Give it a go.....

But I'd choose more wisely your posting position in the future... ;)

Look, wasn't trying to be rude.

It's just that...for starters, Blu-Ray is proprietary to Sony, who, despite all you read, IS at war with MS. M$ has decided to go the way of DIGITAL video content for the new generation, thusly, will NOT support Blu-Ray.

The second problem is that the Blu-Ray platform is entirely Java-based, if I'm not mistaken. This means that not only would the 360 need a console update just to recognize the hardware, but it would also require special software to be able to decode the disc properly.

So yeah, you can plug a blu-ray into your 360 via USB...but without some brilliance above and beyond what's currently available, you'll never get it to work with the 360...

Isnt that what I was basically saying too? but also saying if you have it give it a go.. ???

He maybe running a new hacked 360... he maybe the Bunnie of the 360 world.... where would XBMC be now if no one hadn't "given it a go"
I was just trying to add some reason to his post instead of dragging him over the coals... everyone started somewhere.

I would like to add that while the posting position was unfortunate,
The mirth generated was greatly appreciated.

I would have suggested , if i was not user friendly, that a small ethernet connection to the dark side of the moon generally helps to fix driver issues between platforms as the moon gremlins slide along the cable at night and code all the problems away.

But, i cannot , so i didn`t.

It`s not possible.
