INTRO
Al right, so im kind of scared of you XBMC.org guys... The Vision1 thread did horrible here, there are sexy skins like Aeon, Fusion, and Fluid. My guess is this skin will pretty much get ignored with some nice people stopping by to give their compliments to make me feel good... But o well, here goes!
It was innevitable! I had to do a Vision2! So Microsoft inspired Vision1, This time around Sony inspired Vision2. I'm a big fag of Sony products. They are all black, sleek, shiny, simple and all around sexy. So I kept that in mind the whole time while coming up with ideas for Vision2.
FEATURES/IDEAS:
720p HD This skin was made for 720p from scratch. 4:3 will not be focused on. Simply because Jezz_X and I dont feel the need to focus on 4:3 since HDTV's are so common now (Both Jezz_X and I have one)
Navigation The one thing I concentrated on most was navigation & layout... You will notice this anywhere from Home, to Views, and all the way to the Keyboard.
Library Mode Library Mode has been kept in mind while designing the skin. So the layout will take advantage of all Library Mode has to offer.
FanArt (As I like to put it: Super Duper FullHD Wide Icons!). Skin will support FanArt, and future Music FanArt (Please Agathorn!)

There won't be any phases like Vision1. There will be no 'Beta', 'Alpha', or 'Final' build of Project Vision2. All minor & major updates will be done via SVN unless Jezz_X & I die

Sorry guys... Looks as if that front image (The most important one!) doesn't work! I've contacted the admin at http://pics.apartment808.com to see if they can fix it...I've never had problems with them before, and im sure this won't be a issue, so i'll wait until he adds the site :)

I like it very much - looks great in HD, but unfortunately nothing for my old pal xbox.
Especially the home screen has great potential. Personally i would rather see an xbmc-logo instead of the project vi2ion (maybe make it smaller and put it somewhere on the right upper side?). Also i like always time & date on the home screen. But that's all just a matter of taste, isn't it?
Keep up the great work - always nice to see a fantastic new skin coming a long.
Since xbmc is growing out of the xbox, maybe it's time for a new default skin? But on the other hand on non-HD-hardware PM3 is still unbeatable imho.
Looking good. I think you're one of the few skins that makes excellent use of fan art in the TV section. I'm going to nitpick every little thing below. Keep in mind that I like your design, and many of these things are just personal preference. :)
My main criticism is that you have a lot of "wasted" space in some areas. Not that every area needs to be filled with something, but the main info area for TV series and games has a pretty wide border around it. I'm guessing that's limited due to the dimensions of the banner art, but if not you might want to consider expanding the box out a bit.
I'd love to see a TV series browsing mode that uses the wide banners instead of the text list in the side area. Even banners reduced to the width of that right nav area would look pretty nice.
I like your main menu, but something about it seems just a bit off to me. I think the full labels for each selection are part of it. I'm a minimalist, so I think having the title pop up at the top when you scroll to a section would be enough. Or just reduce the text from "Listen to music & audio CD's" to "Music". Remember that not everyone uses the sections the same way, so the more generic the description, the better.
Also consider allowing people to turn off the Vision logo. It's unnecessary and might not work with many backgrounds. Which brings up another point... cycling custom background images, similar to Aeon. Allow people to select a folder that contains the background art for that menu section. People could use the same backpacks as they use for Aeon, so it'd piggyback some work that's already been done. :)
Consider changing it so it doesn't use the PMIII mesh texture in the background. Yes, it looks nice, but I think you could use a texture that matches your entire skin a little better. Or just allow people to disable it or use a different option?
Finally, there are a handful of us that can't run at 720p due to our televisions not handling it. The work to make a skin work in 480p mode is pretty much limited to modifying the fonts file and minor position adjustments. Can you consider throwing us a bone and trying to get it working? :)

You already know I think this is lovely!
I disagree with some of what szsori says, I like the feeling of the displays not being overcluttered, I like the main menu, I don't object to the PMIII mesh texture or main screen icons, they fit the skin well.
I do agree about the custom background art, the vision logo and being able to use the wide banners for the TV show list!
I'm happy to volunteer to do the layout and font changes for 4:3 modes if you like.

Good work, im really liking the TV views, is there a alternative home menu in the works? Ive never been a fan of what looks like, a side scrolling menu :)

I'm on a mac (and a noob to this whole thing) so I have no clue how to do that. All the examples I've seen for downloading from the svn and building the skin are for windows.

If you are uncomfortable with the terminal window but want to get stuff from svn, get SCPlugin from http://scplugin.tigris.org/ this is a finder plugin that allows access to svn (fashioned after tortoise-svn), you don't have to install anything command line, this is a dmg with a pkg in it, very mac user friendly. Its 10.3.9 and up compatible and a universal binary.
Once installed you will have to log out and back in again, then you can access the svn commands from the context menu in finder (Look in "Context Menu"->More->Subversion" for the commands)
If you want to get a copy of everything in the svn:
1. Create a folder to put it all in.
2. Right click/control click (whatever, get the context menu up) and Select "More->Subversion->Checkout"
3. enter the url of the svn in the "Repository URL" box, leave everything else alone
4. Click "Checkout"
5. Wait a while for it to finish (it will open a window showing you what is going on)
6. Profit :grin:
Its not on the skinnign SVN and wont be for a while its only 50% to 70% finished
And for all those people saying it should have this and that the screenshots above are not a complete representation of everything in the skin you do realize plus its not finshed

I downloaded it and wrote the instructions as I did everything, it worked fine on my iMac, I posted the instructions when I had a full copy of the svn on my desktop. It's only secured for writes, you can checkout as anonymous
The latest version of scplugin works with secured databases. Do you have the latest version?
This is all OT for this thread though as Jezz_X has already said Vi2ion isn't in the svn yet

I know how it feels to work really hard on something and then just get loads of comments saying you should change almost everything, it hurts. At the end of the day these are just peoples opinions, if you don't want to implement them (and a lot of them conflict so it's impossible to do them all) you don't have to, stick to the vi2ion you have for the project (pun intended) do it how you want it to be and if people don't like something they can either use a different skin or make the changes themselves.
Looking at the example screens I think it _could_ be made to fit SD and 4:3 modes, it won't look anything like as gorgeous, its just a limitation of the mode they use, you won't be able to fit as much on the screen but it will run and be functional. Kinda like library mode vs file mode, if people want to use the inferior mode they have to suffer the limitations.

Project Vision 2 Download & Release
Like Jezz_X said the skin isn't finished. The basics are done (Home/Views/Important Dialogs/OSD), but theres still more minor things that need to be finished. When Vision1 reached this point last year I made a thread like this & let everyone know a skin was in the works... a few weeks later the skin was released. Unlike Sony's products, this won't get delayed again and again
Project Vision 2 Music OSD
I do have an alternate Music/Video OSD... I'll post it here some time and you tell me which you prefer... I enjoy the OSD it currently has, but I also like the other one... you'll see soon
Project Vision 2 Logo on Home
Originally that logo wasn't going to be in home, it was only used to show which Theme was being used for mockup purposes. Then later added as part of Home. I agree it would be nice to either see 'XBMC' in that same style, or simply nothing at all there. Atleast a option to turn/change it would be nice... because as szsori said, the ProjectVi2ion logo might not fit right colorwise with other backgrounds.... but this is all up to Jezz_X. Worst case scenario guys, simply edit the skin when its out and remove it...Easy :)
Wide Banners on Right for TV Shows
Agreed, I do like the Wide Icon list idea a lot, would be nice to see. This would be up to Jezz_X if he wants to add it to the skin. I understand if he doesn't, I'm fine either way.

Please listen carefully :) I completly understand where you guys are coming from, I have been using 4x3 for the past 5 years! I recently switched to HD/16:9 a few months ago. I know what its like wanting a skin for 4x3, and trust me, I would love to cater to you guys but:
Like mentioned in my original post, This skin was designed from the ground up in 720p & Library Mode (aka The best part of XBMC). With this said, theres so much information on the screen, the fonts are small, and everything fits perfect for 720p. IF we WERE to convert this skin for 4x3, the skin will not work or atleast look right.

Take that DVD View for example You have so much information on the left hand side, then you have a full blown dvd poster in the middle, and then a big list to the right. If this were to be viewed on a 4x3 TV, things would go completly wrong. The fonts would be larger, the information would be bigger, and the layout would be cut off, thus not looking right. So its not really about us not caring about 4x3, or simply not wanting to put effort because we dont use it... The simply fact is, it wont look right.
BUT theres good news... The XBMC community is large, theres people always modding skins to cater their own personal needs. I can guarentee you someone out there will rework the xml needed and get 4x3 working... because theres so many of you 4x3 users. Ive already had a few PM's from people saying they will attempt to get 4x3 working... I dont know if it will look right, but hopefully. Either way, you will get your 4x3 Vision2
In Conclusion
I apreciate every persons feedback on the skin. They are all great ideas, some I know will get added :D
Just remember this is what the skin looks like now. This isn't final. Things will change with all the feedback, for the better :)
I'm not sure if you remember, but Vision1 saw change from the original screenshots to the release build. Then it saw even more change as you guys all tried the skin out and gave more feedback.
So we need feedback before the release, during the release, and after the release...So keep those comments flowing :)

Your correct that its due to the dimensions of the banner art. I didn't want to sacrifice losing quality on the banner by increasing it. You will notice a lot of empty space thruought the skin, which is all pretty much planned for a few reasons... 1) To give it a 'glass panel' feel over a background. (I'm not the best with words sorry! I know what im thinking in my mind though, hopefully you can understand hehe) 2) Custom backgrounds for those that want to still see their custom backgrounds while browsing 3) Music Visualizations that will be shown behind the panels, as you can see in some of the screenshots (Like music)

I completly understand where your coming from, and I can relate as I like things pretty minimal... but the Full Labels will stay. I just prefer the detail over 1 word Sorry... But you might like another theme for Vision2 that wont include those labels... and its a lot simpler then this PM3 Theme

I totally love this idea. I really like that part of AEON, but, I think it might be too late to do this for the skin. As it would require a lot of rework on XML, which I know Jezz_X just doesn't have time for. Perhaps someone out there can do a mod for Vision2 when its released to add this feature, because as I said, I like it :)

Must say that the home page have a nice way of using the wide icons!
Personally those scroll left/right home pages are a bad thing for my wiiremote, but they look fantastic :)

Thanks for the great response, NineT9mustang. That all makes good sense except the last part, quoted above. 480p is widescreen mode, the same as 720p and 1080i. This means it can fit the exact same information as 720p as long as everything is scaled properly. My TV can display 480p and 1080i, but has no automatic conversion from 720p. This is common in older HD tv's. I've been able to get Aeon looking 99% correct by just adjusting the sizes in Fonts.xml, since it's really just scaling things differently.
In an ideal world, XBMC would automatically scale widescreen fonts the same as it does the images. But alas, it's not there yet. :)

Umm yeah it does here is a screenshot taken in 480p with xbmc auto scaling the font since the skin only has a 720p dir (bare in mind I didn't rescale the image to the correct aspect ratio)

Are you ok with me hosting weekly builds of the svn version for easy download like I do the all the other skins in the svn?
Speechless, so simple but yet so smooth, so slick, so beautiful.
I love the images in the menu, the sub menu list feels a bit weird though, settings on ever menu button, but once used to it, you realize it's actually really useful, smart setup.
Also try to put the Project Vision 2 logo more in the spotlight instead on the bottom of a context menu, just a suggestion, not sure how it would look, just a bit shame to hide a funky logo like that.

I also must say the programs "Wide List" is one of the best view ideas Ive seen in a while!
Gave the skin a lookthrough, and these are my thoughts (dam, didn't that sound formal)... It's one of the slickest, sexiest, smoothest, most stable skins I've ever used...
I simply love the way everything is Done... can I say that... no, what I mean... everything is working and unlike so many skins out there, the base skin is almost 100% complete, and lays dormant in the MAKE IT EVEN MORE BLINGY phase, which is the phase in which most skin fanatics like their skin to be... you've done an amazing job on every view, icon style and other individual piece of the puzzle... In other words, this skin should become very popular very quick... and if it doesn't... thats because other people like the idea of waiting for something that may take ages to complete... all in all, great concept and great job... it's like PM3 on drugs... love it...
Now, that I've mentioned my thoughts, i'd like to say I'm looking forward to "Future Changes"... especially the Custom Home Backgrounds and Home Now Playing... they should be fun additions, especially for the person who likes giving their skin a personal feel...

I can't get the poster to display in good quality... using high quality (511x763) thumbnails I found on the internet... does the xbmc resize thumbnails or something, coz I can't figure this one out???
Just checked Vision2 on a mates HD XBOX, and the images in the Movie List View are still blurry, which is weird. He's using huge thumbnails for his movies, so I have no idea. Could it be xbmc resizing schema which drops the quality and makes them blurry... any ideas?
Thinking of making any other view types for the movies section, coz I recon that would sort my problem out, LOL!!!

That'll be because of standard the thumbnail size of 192x192.
You'll need to make an advancedsetting.xml to increase it.

well it was HD res.. just using XBMC for Windows at 720p on my work computer to try and convince my collegue.... Brought in my xbox database etc, but the thumbs aren't up to scratch.. but even he was commenting about the professional look and feel.. very clean. He likes it better than Aeon, and I'm starting to think you'll give Aeon a run for it's money....
Added to my SVN, A shame I only have a 4:3 TV at home, will give it a go later, trying to convert everything over to my macbook.. where Vision 2 should look super sweet.
Is there any plans in the future for adding in the fullscreen info the current hour and finnish time (of the playing video)?
At least the current hour would be nice :) i hate having to go home screen to check the current hour.
Other thing i've notice is that vision2 only displays basic info (no hardware info, etc) any plans for that to change too?

the max on the xbox is 512. so change that and then delete your thumbnail cache.

so, i've almost officially made this my default skin. i just seem to be having a problem with xbmc freezing while i use it. it doesn't happen with any other skin i've tried. and it usually only happens while i'm browsing the library. i'm still trying to see if i can consistently recreate it, so i'll let you know how it goes.

Also,
1. In weather, it doesn't shows max temp of today only minimum, is this a skin problem or the weather site?
2. I think there's a typo in "fast foward".

if you get the svn version, you can change any setting you want. just gotta find it in the right xml file. and i just turned the sounds off. it's in the skin settings.

I will be adding an option to remove the settings from each menu in home but currently there is no other way to get to them we have no settings Page. So once we design and get a proper main settings page I will add the option to remove th emenu items with them

Ok I got a lot of lockups with the skin and thats the last thing I saw in the log so I thougt it might be an issue with the skin.
I noticed that it freezed at the same places so I deleted my db and rescanned everything and now it seems to work.

The images are *.jpg, have you tried .bmp?

I had this problem with the first build (slow menus). I shrank the images down to 720 pxs wide and it worked fine with no noticeable loss of quality, and I'm running at a screen rez of 1360 by 768. This skin is phenomenal. One thing though, the fonts are somewhat small at my resolution, but still readable.

I agree. I'm running at 720p on a 61" screen and the fonts are a bit small. Otherwise, it's a really nice skin.

It is the same movies and shows that freezes but I noticed that if you scroll through them fast it doesn't freeze so it seems that the autoscrolling is the problem.

ok, so i've tried a bunch of things with the library freezing. if i take out all of the autoscrolling, the dvd library seems to work fine. i haven't had any freezing yet. however, the tv shows still freezes on the shows that would autoscroll.
if i leave the autoscrolling in, the dvd view works mostly, but seems to freeze in the middle of the autoscroll, although it has been able to get through the whole text a few times.
the most consistent movie that freezes during the autoscroll is 21 (so far). it happens about 19 seconds after i focus on it. sometimes it doesn't freeze though. definitely seems intermittent.
the tv show that always does it is the wonder years. i'm sure that's frozen it every time i have the autoscroll in.
can't figure out if it's a skin thing or an xbmc thing.
BTW, i noticed that the pictures when you focus on a section (like videos or pictures) is now randomized. thanks for that. i changed the imagepath to be a folder where i drop in my own pictures, but it's pretty slow in loading the images, and there's a gap between when one image fades out and when the other gets loaded. i haven't tried smaller images yet though.
i would like to be able to move the home navigation down some so that the focus images could be bigger. especially if i don't have the weather on the home screen. i'm running into the problem of having the middle of the images get overlapped by the selection screen and the label above. that may just be something that i fix on my box though, not necessarily a skin setting.
i do want to point out that this is the best skin i've ever used, and even with the occasional freezing, i'm still using it as my default, and have even taken all the other skins of my box as i have no need for them. i will probably be doing some moderate modifications, but i still absolutely love it. thank you so much for it.

About freezing problem again. I just updated to the T3CH build compiled today and it still freezes. I've tried many other skins with similar views and Vision2 is the only one that freezes. I've also tried to disable autoscrolling and I've tried to decrease the font size in the plot text box so the whole plot is showing but it still ends up in a freeze if it's a long plot text.
Jezz_X are you sure this is an XBMC issue?
Oh, and also when I was looking at the code i found this string

Ok I can tell you how reproduce it.
Here's my setup (It probably doesn't matter but still I'll give as much info as possible)
Xbox v1.1 with modded BIOS (xecuter2 5035)
320GB HDD
I run XBMC as dashboard in 720p resolution.
I use the T3CH build compiled today (T3CH XBMC 2008-06-30 SVN rev13851)
Now to the freezing issue.
I've only encountered freezes in library mode (both TV Shows and Movies, I don't use Music library so I don't know about that)
There is only one view in this skin in library mode (list view) so ofcourse it's in that view I get the error. If you select a movie or TV show that has a long plot it will freeze. Sometimes it freezes at the instance you select it and sometimes it can take a few seconds.
Here are some examples
Movies: 21, 28 Weeks Later, The Brave One, Sex & Breakfast
TV Shows: Bleach, Friends, Sex & The City
btw I use IMDb for movies and TheTVDB for TV Shows.
I removed this string from both views in ViewsVideoLibrary.xml
<label>$INFO[ListItem.Plot]</label>
and that solves the freezing problem so I'm pretty sure that the plot is the issue here.

TV library consistantly crashes on Greys Anatomy. just highlight grey's and wait 2 seconds, system will freeze

No problems with 28 days later or 28 weeks later, don't have any of the other above mentioned titles that I could check.

OK, crash doesn't happen on win32 sdl, or on win32 directx. Tested with "28 days later..." and "Grey's Anatomy".
Will try on xbox tonight.
more testing on tv shows that autoscroll
Gossip Girl = ok
Grey's Anatomy = crashes before scrolling starts
Heroes = crashes before scrolling starts
Rescue Me = starts to scroll then crashes
Sienfeld = crashes before scrolling starts
World Poker Tour = ok
Movies = its not repeatable in the sense that it hangs at the same spot every time but i like to use my own thumbs. my dvds are in the format moviename.iso and moviename.jpg on my readynas. when i bring up the movie information page and select "get thumb" and browse for a local thumb, most of the time it will freeze before i can finish.

Ok I have reproduced the locking up error on the xbox and since jm trusts me more than you lot (joke) he will try and get it fixed ASAP
Ok I just added a possible work around for the lockups in the SVN please try it out and tell me if it does help so we can help narrow it down for jmarshall it seems to fix it fine for me

Thankyou NineT9mustang & Jezz X for this beautiful skin! I have spent all day up-scaling my movie posters and it was well worth it.
I realise that there are changes to come but I was just wondering whether the "Files" view as is in the Music Plugins section is going to make its way into its Video Plugins counterpart. The main reason being is it is helpful to be able to see the thumbs within all of Voinage's great plugins!

We're hitting an (undocumented as far as I can tell) xbox hardware limitation. There's a number of workarounds - I've just got to find where the limit is and the best way to workaround it. Not easy when debugging is basically impossible (hard lock if the debugger is attached, so it's the good old "try a number, upload executeable, play around and hope it crashes, repeat with a smaller or larger number" and hope for some consistency).
Hopefully I can get Jezz_X to give me a hand over the next couple of days so that we can find a firm limit and fix it for good (rather than just taking a guess and seeing the same problem hit again later on).

i'm having a slight issue with TV fan art. sometimes it'll display, but sometimes i doesn't. when it doesn't, it'll change the left screen to how it would look if there was art, but the art doesn't show up. so i go and change the art, and if there's another image use, i'll select it and it'll show up. but if there's only one image, i can't change it and it just doesn't show up. does it have to do with being a remote image? i figured i'd probably just download the images and save them to my box, but i haven't tried it yet.

I am experiencing this same issue (on the xbox). Randomly the fanart will not display and has to be reset. It happened to me with a TV show that had the fanart stored remotely so I'm not sure if this is relevant to the problem.
Happens on my Xbox and HTPC running any skin.

I used to have that problem until I stored all my FanArt locally (In the Shows Folder), Maybe that will help you guys out?
Perhaps, its a memory issue? Ive found sometimes it wont show it if its under BMP/PNG, so I have all mine under JPG

Hey,
First off i really love this skin! I've been using vision (1) for over an year now and i've been on the lookout for a skin that's even more to my liking and haven't been able to find it untill i found this thread. So kudo's to you guys!
However this skin isn't completed yet and i've found some things that i didn't like about it. And these might already be known to you, or i might have overlooked something so if i did please point it out to me because i'd love to use this skin to its fullest :)
1) There is no option available to auto play a music playlist. This was so in the previos Vision skin and a lot of other skins and i really, really love that option!
2) There are no rss feeds shown on the home page. Also an option you had in the previos skin and also one i find very usefull cos when im listening to music i can't watch the news and i have a few feeds that can keep me updated ;)
3) Whenever you change of a page like from the home screen to the music library or music file list. Or from the movie file screen to the home screen or from the home screen to the settings screen, scripts screen well okay you get it, whenever you change from any page to another page. Okay where was I.. Whenever you change from page to page the xbox 'hangs' for just a 0.1 or 0.3 seconds. I think that the reason is because whenever you change a page whatever is playing in the background (movie or visualisation) it reloads whatever is playing there. When you're playing a movie for instance the screen and sounds stops for a moment and then continues. What made me notice that it gets reloaded though is when you have the visualisation on. Whenever you change a page with the vis on the music keeps on playing however, the visualisation changes just like when you go from the home screen to the full screen visualisation.
So that might be the cause of the slowdown.
4) The menu you have for fullscreen visualisations and movies is kinda crappy. I know its being used in a few other skins however there are a few isssues with it. For instance, I have to guess what option is for what by trial and error since its hard to make out the icons of it. Also there is no subs or lyrics link in it wich i really, really like of the vision 1 skin.
5) On the main page in the run submenu's my favorite script's don't get added and also there is no other hot link to favorites other then when going to the leave menu and select it there. I'd really love an favorites menu on the main page with just an touch of the button as you had in the previos skin aswell. It's really handy!
6) Also the main page. I'd really love if i could change or add items to the submenu's. This kind of customization would really up the value of the nice menu on main page!
7) There is no album or movie cover on the main page! This is also a thing i loved of the previous skin and really was the foremost reason for me to get nice thumb's for all my albums and movies.
8) There is no song or movie information shown in the home screen. It could be you didn't add it because you'd not want the home screen to be messy however i found the option really to my liking on the vision (1) skin.
9) I can put update library to back-ground only and update whenever i boot my xbox. However with the music library i can only put it to whenever i boot. I like it when that kind of stuff happens on the background because i can still watch a movie when it happens and i know it will happen everytime i start my xbox. So please could you also add an option for running the music library update to the background?
Ofcourse there are also a couple of things i really, really like about this skin :)
1) Really great skinning! It looks sleek, clear and neat! It's not chaotic, menus look great and have a really good overview and make the information you want really pop out!
2) The home screen is a piece of art on itself! I love how the menu bar is made again it's really easy to use and you can see in a blink of an eye what's in the menu and what submenu's there are. Also the changing backgrounds are really sweet!
3) Point 3 is also for the home screen simply because it's worth it's own point ;) I love the lay-out! You guys have shown pure genious on this one.
4) Settings everywhere, easy to access and easy to secure! I love this, thisway i don't have to search trough 4-5 menu's to find the right settings page and it's all just 1 push of a button away!
5) In full visualisation and full screen movie playing i like really like the progress bar and album cover and where it's put. It looks really sleek and proffessional :)
6) The Movie library: WOW! You guy's have really done it! It's awesome!!! On the left hand the movie info, in the middle a big ass poster and on the left the movies. What an layout and not to say about the artwork! Nice!
7) The Music library: WOW! Another piece of art! Just as great as the movie library but with the music info on the left hand with the cover and on the right hand the albums and such. Amazing!
Well all in all it's a really great skin and to my opinion the best there is currently out there! You guys are doing a really great job and i'd love for this skin to be finished! Oh and also you guys shouldn't underestimate the usage of your skin because it's added to a lot of xbmc packs like bigfoot87's and such, i know a bunch of guys who all still use vision 1 and some have also switched over to vision 2 already :)

I completely disagree....I have a 16x9 SD TV and it works fine for me. The recent changes to text resizing means that everything is easily viewable.
If you have a SD 4x3 then you might have troubles, but 16x9 is fine.
I'm posting this in two places because I think it's not merely a skin problem but something that may need addressing in the non-Xbox builds of XBMC so feel free to delete one or the other.

Well you hit the nail on the head there its because the pc version thinks that resolution is a 4x3 one (which it is) and the skin is scaling it graphics as needed you would need to take it up with the win32/linux devs to maybe add in a toggle to the appearnce screen for Force (None,4x3,16x9) nothing I can really do.

I think its a combination of things. Xbmc is scaling the skin to fit in a 4x3 format for 1024x768 with a 1:1 square pixel aspect ratio, but your tv is "expanding" the image because the pixels cannot be square on a 1024x768 at 16:9. Outside of Xbmc, does your computer desktop look a little "off" as well? (It'll be more pronounced in Xbmc because of how its scaling the skin as well.)
Yeah my desktop is stretched but I only really use this PC for XBMC anyway. Like Jezz said videos playback fine because I've calibrated the screen for 1:333 PAR. The strange thing is AEON doesn't do any of this and I thought Vision2 would be OK because there's only the 720p folder and no sign of seperate 16:9 and 4:3 folders.

Also, odd problem, but the auto view mode isn't picking up that it should be showing thumbs for dirs full of photos... ? Something I can fix in config there?
Oh dear - Just noticed, simply not enough memory left on the xbox once Vision2 is loaded - home screen shows abot 17MB compared to 37MB for PM3. Main failure is when I try to watch a video from library mode.
I also notice there's no basic thumbnail view in pictures - I guess that's why it isn't automatically going to thumbs view in a photo directory.

Boy does that please my friends and family :) They always pressed 'Left/Right' on accident when browsing down movies/shows/games/music :) :) :) Now that wont happen anymore :D

one thing i'd like to see is the length of video somewhere in the the episode or movie info screen.

Same here :( gutted.... looks fantastic but overall performance is so much noticable over the other skins such as PMIII xTX etc..... had 14Mb left at some point.
Just wondering if I sacraficed one of my older Xboxes and upgraded my main one with its memory making 128Mb wether this would help skin performance ???

Hey i got a feature request, you know on the home page how when you to like Listen there is Artists Albums Files View and Settings, You should add Songs as a fith option under Artists or Albums, I know myself and many others use the Songs section of libary a lot and you already have 5 things in the list for the Play tab and it doesnt look cluttered or anything so why not?

Yeah i see that instead of just clearing it you change it to and i did that and saved and it did not change anything i even tryed having it blank maybe i'm being stupid but i cant figure it out and i usually have no problem with things like this, what do you think about my idea of adding Songs to one of the selectable things from "listen"

I'd love to see font's that are a bit bigger and autoscrolling of movie info disabled (these two wishes are probably related). But I guess I'm one of the few who are actually still using a PAL television (82cm widescreen).
For people who want to be able to update the skin without the need to FTP to the XBOX... The plugin in my sig enables you to download the skin with your remote. I try to keep the files up to date on a daily basis (from SVN). But I'm also going on holiday soon :)

Nice update i really love the new stuff you've added! However i do have an request concerning the RSS feed feature.
You've added it to the top of the screen so when you enable it it'll push everything down a bit. Now however it's a small bit it does make the screen a bit more cluttered then necessary.
I'd like to suggest that the rss bar doesn't push everything down but instead make it appear next to the date and time bar with a bit of space between them.
Other then that you're doing an amazing job!

If you don't have the file AdvancedSettings.xml in it create one (with notepad) and write this in it
<AdvancedSettings>
<thumbsize>512</thumbsize>
</AdvancedSettings>
then go to the Thumbnails folder and delete the folder named Pictures
restart xbmc and go to pictuers and it will make new thumbails with better resolution

Jezz i've tryed and tryed and i can't get the UPPERCASE to go away could you please re check your code, i've followed directions exactly i even tryed the old way of doing it but neither work, keep in mind i'm just editing the english string as this is my language i just dont want the UPPERCASE its hard for me to read i have bad vision (20/80 w/glasses, I'm albino if anyone knows what that means) So on that note is there any way we could get a 2nd fond, called like Default_Big like in the old Vision skin, we could keep the old one as well but just a little bigger would be great, i feel dumb not being able to read my 50" Plasma from my bed i can with Basic-Vision though

do you have both avi's in the same folder?
if you don't, put them in the same folder and scan using the folders name and they will be stacked (also make sure that the files are named correctly CD1,CD2 etc). make sure that "Treat stacked files as one" (or something like that, I use swedish language) is enabled in the video settings. If you have more than one of the same movie in the library remove all copies an rescan the movie.

What platforms is everyone running this skin on? my Xbox just doesn't have the grunt to run this skin... 14mb of free memory performance is somewhat slooooow :(

But I'm not runnign it at all :P but when I made it I tested it on win32 and linux since its what I use these days
ok i'm all sorted now, i just had to rename all my films that had two avi files to cd1 and cd2. Then i cleaned up the library, and bingo it's all fine. :)
Regarding the low memory mentioned a few posts above, i'm running this skin in 720p and i have 28mb free, i have only only turned off background visuals while playing music as the memory dropped to 10mb then.
So the only thing i can't seem to find now is set content for films etc ? i know were it was in the pm3 skin, perhaps it's not added yet.

i'm having a bad day, it's my fault, instead of doing an imbd on my films folder i did it on the root of my nas drive, hence it was scanning all. I am now doing a fresh scan on my films again.

Hey are we gonna get any more view modes for the video Library? I LOVE how it looks for browsing the movies, but I would like something other than the list view for when I'm browsing through the various seasons of a show, since I have nice DVD box art.
So far I LOVE IT, it has replaced Basics-Vision as my default skin.
Basically any further development is on hold (on my side) until NineT9Mustang gets back from where ever he is so we can properly discuss and impliment things right the first time. And right now he is a little MIA to be doing this alone since its his skin "Vision" anyway

Would it be possible to add custom background folders? Something similar to Aeon, and specific to games, movies, TV shows etc.?
UND3R ACHI3V3R, download the SVN version, and the custom background folders are in the media folder... just place your images (1280x405 pixels) in the relevant folders and build the SKIN, copy over to wherever u store ur skins and walla... isn't Vision2 a superb piece of work... u gotta love it!
