View Full Version : Sever stuttering on mp4v - TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress

I have compressed two movies using TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress and an ISO MPEG-4 stream type (default in the tool). The result on my PC is excellent, but on XBMC it is unwatchable. Audio is excellent, but only every 10th frame or so is displayed.

I would not bother to much, but since I deleted the originals after verifying on the PC I am in a situation where I cannot "undo". Anyone else had the same problem?

As for codecs used etc. I consulted GSpot, and came up with little information:

Codec: mp4v
Name: MPEG-4 Video
Status: Codec Status Undetermined
"PVOP" and "BVOP" are lit (in GSpot)

I have read other posts with similar issues, though I cannot say that they seem totally related.

Any ideas as for what to do?

Can you post a debug log from a session in XBMC where you play one of these files? It's not very clear from your post what sort of input format and output format we're working with, at least not to me since I don't use that program.

I have compressed two movies using TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress and an ISO MPEG-4 stream type (default in the tool).Is that MPEG-4 part 2 (a.k.a. MPEG-4 ASP, a H.263 derivitive), or MPEG-4 part 10 (a.k.a. MPEG-4 AVC, a H.264 derivitive)?

I asume it is H.264 encoded video.

The Xbox CPU is not powerfull enough to playback H.264 encoded video at even standard-definition resolutions.

Do a search for "H.264" in this forum and you will find at least 1000 posts explaining why.

I was previously assuming that the HW limitations was only valid for HD content, but given the link I assume that it is actually the HW limitation that causes the stuttering.

The film is in 640x400 so I am assuming that I am in the "grey zone" of what is possible.

Thanks for your help - I will try to reconvert my movies to "standard" Xvid.
