I know this is OSX specific request. Anyway.

I think what is really missing in XBMC is the ability for live TV. That was the reason for me going from Xbox to HTPC to "HTMAC".

Now I have EyeTV running along with frontrow for all the other stuff (videos, music, pictures).

I would love to replace frontrow with XBMC, but I would also love a nice integration of both. Maybe as a plugin or an extra module.. Dont know.

As EyeTv is one of the most used PVR and live TV application this combination would rock!

Any thoughts on this?

if EyeTV has/had an networked API then this would be a platform-independent feature suggestion/request, see:
http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28918

So yes it could be possible if EyeTV supports streaming Live-TV over the network and some sort of control API.

Gamester17,

I get the idea that you think EyeTV is hardware when in reality it is software. Of course I'm probably wrong...I am an idiot most of the time. ;) EyeTV is simply software that controls a number of hardware devices. It can reencode video and schedule recordings, but as far as I know that's about it. Anyway, the post you linked to seems to address the issues of jcee11's concerns. I just wanted to give some extra info.

Thanks,

Aman

@Aman, I know EyeTV is a software (and not a hardware). I guess you did just bother reading the post that I linked to?, if you did then you would know that it refers to the idea of controlling multiple hardware AND software 'TV-recording' backends from XBMC, (if you look at the post now you will notice that there is even a list there which lists many media center SOFTWARES, like; MythTV, Linux VDR, MediaPortal, MeediOS, Microsoft Windows Media Center, Freevo, MyTheatre, ProgDVB, HTS TVheadend, ...all which are software with similar functions to EyeTV).

Ok, understood.

Does anyone has a good idea how to operate EyeTV and XBMC on the same Mac Mini then?

I was using Eyetv/Frontrow for quite a time. I would love to use the combination of Eyetv/XBMC. And a way how I can switch between the applications with the remote.
I have not found out a way to do this.

Some in this forum have discussed about replacing frontrow with XBMC but it seemed as they have run into trouble and is not very easy?!

I appreciate any hint.

(I do not want to loose forntrow too as it is so nicely tied into Itunes. As far as I know XBMC/Itunes integration does not work yet for V7+ of itunes, correct?)

I found this (http://forums.elgato.com/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=1125), which might be what you're looking for.

I don't have an EyeTV, just been thinking about getting one so I'm not sure how well it works.

I'm sure the EyeTV SDK (http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/support/Update-Start/Plug-in-SDK-EyeTV.en.html) is of interest too

Those two in combination with each other could probably be a good start (once XBMC for Mac OS X supports python scripts that is)
http://forums.elgato.com/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=1125

PyeTV could be used as a base for a frontend GUI python script for the API described in the EyeTV SDK in order to get something up-and-running relativly quick for EyeTV access/control under XBMC, (similar to the existing MythTV (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbmcmythtv/), MediaPortal (http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/plugins-47/mp-xbmc-intergration-scripts-v0-6d-update-4-mar-07-a-2263/) and Dreambox (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4952)/Dbox2 (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25190) python scripts that are already available for XBMC, those could possibly as be be used as the base of the python GUI script).

...later a native GUI front-end as I decribed it this other post (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28918) would make a nicer interface

Hi Guys and Gurls!

Just bought a Griffin RadioSHARK so I can get AM/FM radio to the mac mini media centre I am building.

It runs a small program called RadioSHARK to make itself work and seems to work quite well.

Not knowing much about the innards of XBMC, but being a donater, I'm wondering if someone could help me understand if I will be able to run this program under XBMC? I note there is a menu option for "Programs" but I don't quite understand what that is for?

Will I be able to load RadioSHARK under that menu option?

Is that the same place that EyeTV would go for me to be able to run my USB TV Card also?

Thanks for all your help guys and gurls! I'm loving how fast OSXBMC is coming along. You still see a few of the rough edges sometimes, but mostly it appears to work properly the majority of the time.

Keep up the good work elan and all!

:nod:RadioShark working under XBMC would really be great for me as well

There are no plans to integrate RadioSHARK or EyeTV at the moment. All my time is being spent on core functionality that's missing (e.g. Python). Once there is support for scripting and Python plug-ins, a whole new world will be opened up that could make it easier to integrate these sorts of things.

Stay tuned.

Hello there,

I've been searching the net for info, and have a few facts to share to clarify the status of EyeTV / XBMC Integration, which I'm eager to see refined :)

— EyeTV Has a SDK that allows to access the raw streams. However it seems that only a subset of adapters are supported, and for MPEG2 only. Seems also that the SDK hasn't been updated in a while, but maybe the API allows more than described.
Link : http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/support/Update-Start/Plug-in-SDK-EyeTV.en.html

— XBMCEyeTVParser & Scraper are nice, but have various problems,
ranging from character encoding problems (accented chars are causing problems while parsing, or generating thumbs), to a lack of features (no recording, no live tv, no advanced management…)

— The Guys at VLC project have a working (I have tested it) plugin for EyeTV that allows VLC to select, display, and record channels :

- You can select the channel you want from a list inside VLC populated from EyeTV's channels
- You can play, and record the channel in vlc directly
- Link :

Binary : http://www.videolan.org/vlc/eyetv/
Source Trac : http://http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/browser/extras/package/macosx/eyetvplugin

It seems to me that XBMC could use the knowledge brought by VLC's team,
and implement that into our favorite Media Center.

Cheers !

I just bought eyetv for my front room mac mini. I have plex and eyetv running. I use an xbox and xbmc in the bedroom. I added a upnp source to xbmc, found my eyetv folder.

Without any new encoding or extra plugin I am able to view my original file library, and shows currently recording and encoding (I change them to divx automatically after recording is finished).

What is the benefit to the eyetv parser?
