I am starting this new thread to answer the questions that raised in other places :)
I have ATI in one of my machines. With older drivers I had green colors playback. I upgraded to latest catalyst drivers from ATI webpage and now I don't have green during playback - I have garbaged display. Good video takes upper left corner of my monitor (regardless of video resolution) and 3/4 of the screen is taken by some strange artifacts. I have no problems on the machines with NVidia cards. So problem with green display is for sure connected to ATI drivers and ATI cards.

I've already got the latest ATI driver but still it's green.
Here's my info -

Some more data for you:
ATI Radeon 9600XT
Catalyst 7.10
No green and good performance.
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0555
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.7278
Interesting versioning scheme.
Also interesting is that even under Windows, ATI is having the same issue as it was under Linux.
Guys i download last ArtVandelae SDL/OpenGL release. Can someone explain me how can i see video in full coloring mode (not only green). Thanks!

Did you bother to read other threads? There is a problem with some ATI Cards right now. Go grab some Nvidia and you all set

I also have the same problem:
Video seems to play properly in the top left corner of the screen and then artifacts in 2 other places with copies of the video (middle of the screen, bottom right).
I tried putting the atioglxx.dll in the xbmc folder but this did not solve the problem. I am using the most current drivers from 2/13/08 from ati's website

Exact same problem here also.
wish I could help, but it solved my problem.. All i did was copy the atioglxx.dll in the xmbc dir and it plays fine now.. Did not take anything out, left the original file where it was and left all original files in xbmc dir..
i have an onboard radeon 1250 with the same problem on my media center and when i put atioglxx.dll in the XBMC folder i get an error message "atioglxx.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error". Very frustrating as on my other PC the radeon x1550 works fine with just the glew32.dll.

Actually I got XBMC up and running fine (almost) on both my laptops. One is an HP dv9000t:
Core 2 Duo T5600
Go7600 256MB
that one works perfectly.
My second laptop is far less powerful, but shouldn't have a problem running xbmc I would think. It's a Toshiba M200 Tablet PC:
1.8GHz Pentium M
Go5200 32MB
Notice that both are Nvidia based. The Toshiba loads and runs XBMC pefectly, video playback appears smooth but is completely green! Any ideas now?
WisdomWolf - u need to install last drivers or try to copy last dlls from HP to Tishiba.
Whitch ones? I don't know. On my eee-pc it isn`t work.

Someone else got this to work?

Maybe we should list what kind of cards that are not working. My card is:
Sapphire RADEON X800XL
I know there is no support from the developers right now, but if someone who have the same card got this to work, I would like to hear what they have done
And if you do this please list the compile date (in the logfile) to make it easier to compare.
Yes, This is from my log file: Built on Mar 9 2008

And ideally the REVISION. When it's built is no good unless you have up to date code to build from.
To do this I guess I have first to say with which revision I build it ;)
I'll post it the next time.
 Got this to work now.
I did as bigbw said. Copied atioglxx.dll to my XBMC dir and the green colors/deviding of the screen is gone!
I used the atioglxx.dll from my "old" driver. Not from the updated one and it work?
Can I upload this file to somewhere? It might help others.
Hmm, I HAVE to make a HTPC now

is it working on the build that wiso posted or the one Art posted..
Something to play with. Thanks to chadoe who fixed the video playback issue.

As usual no support ... and so on.
I used this one, but I think its the .dll that matters?
Hmm, this is beginning to get confusing, how about adding the .exe`s to downloads or something with date ore rev.?
Ok, i've gotten this to work now so I thought I should give a detailed explanation of how I did. Fist of all: I have a Radeon X1950 Pro card and I'm running Vista.
Take the atioglxx.dl_ from Catalyst 7.4. The file can be found in:
"C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985\Packages\Drivers\Displa y\LH_INF\B_45162"
Then in a cmd window run: "expand atioglxx.dl_ <folder>" and rename atioglxx.dl_ --> atioglxx.dll. Finally place it in the XBMC folder and voila, colors! At least that worked for me.
More catalyst drivers might work as well, the 7.3 did not however.
Hope this helps someone.

I have an Asus Radeon 9550 card and get garbled video on playback in fullscreen.
I've tried all sorts of combinations of builds and copying atioglxx.dll to XBMC directory.
Anyone have anything else I can try?
Or should I just buy an Nvidia card?

top man!! This sorted my built in radeon 1250. Didn't realise we had to expand the atioglxx.dl_
did you expand the atioglxx.dl_ ? then copy the larger file to the xbmc directory?
I have the same problem with the version that Wiso posted, and I did expand the file..

I'm on XP and it didn't work either.
It's back to Media Portal for me, I'm getting nowhere with this.
If it could just playback videos and nothing else it would be great, but I guess it's early days for XBMC.

I'm using Vista 32 bit. I tried doing this trick using the latest ATI Drivers, but the video was still green and distorted. I then downloaded the the older ATI 7.4 Drivers and the green is gone.

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H with the AMD690G Chipset and a onboard Radeon x1250 graphics card
This fix did help for me, but its far from flawless!
I've commited a fix for ATI/AMD to svn. The question now is, does it break the drivers you've found to be working.

you need to use a newer version to see any improved ati graphics performance ether built from source or wait for the next official release
Just wanted to say thanks.. DLL has fixed one of my issues. Now to keep searching for the rest. Any idea when next build should be along? Dev's should have a chat with ATI . Game dev guy I met says they are quite helpful in getting fixes build into the drivers suites...
Thanks,
Mike

Still having issues as well
-XBMC for windows 14125
-Latest ATI drivers
-GPU: Radeon X1800XT
copied the 7.4 atioglxx.dll to the XBMC folder, didn't change anything
video/audio playback is smooth, but it only shows the top left quadrant (in black and white only), with red and blue artifacts behind it
is there something that needs to be changed in one of the xml files to make it see the new dll? or does it detect it automatically

did you do a full fresh install as in uninstall and manually delete the XBMC folder in "Application data"?
G0t m4xx 21
2008-07-18, 04:19
14125 was the first version of XBMC I tried installing, there was nothing previous to uninstall
I downgraded back to 13859 now it's working a bit better, video playback works but if I pause/rewind/fast forward it garbles up the video, and exiting back to the menu garbles up the fonts as well (all white boxes, in video playback the mouse cursor is a white box as well), then I have to restart xbmc
so if I start xbmc and play a video it works fine, but I can't do anything else after that without it going nuts

The fix has broken things for my unforunately. On a cleanly installed 13859 revision XBMC the video plays for me just fine. However, on a cleanly installed 14125 revision XBMC the video has ghosting and other issues described in this thread (no green screen though).
Would you be able to provide exact details of what was changed and in which source file so that if need be I can undo the change and compile things myself.
Thanks,
Harry
P.S. Or alternatively if this fix hasn't actually fixed things for users can we remove it from the SVN? Or better yet implement a switch of some sort so we can set an option in one of the xml files ... obviously a bit of work ... so in the mean time if you could just tell us exactly what was changed so we can manually change it back if need be that would be great.
P.P.S. The hardware I'm running this on is a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop using a ATI Xpress 1150 video card.

I have the same problem with a ATI X1950 card, Driver version 8.5 under Vista 32bit. Can't play any videos... only the left top corner is visible and blue/red artifacts, wrong colours etc.
Copying the ati_dll file into the xbmc director didn't bring any changes.
Anybody know help? Seems like this is BIG problem

Hi all!
I have tried a couple of configurations using the XBMCSetup-Rev14125.exe,
1. Hp laptop (don't recall the modelnr) (Don't work)
Core 2 2.0Ghz with Radeon HD2300.
Didn't work with any of the Hp drivers available. Fix doesn't help.
2. Home built Media Center computer (Works)
AMD Athlon64 Dual Core 2.5 Ghz, Radeon HD2400.
Works with latest Catalyst driver 8.7.
3. Hp nx7000 (Works)
Pentium 1.5 GHz, Radeon 9200.
Works with Driver 6.14.10.6422.
4. Home built computer (Don't work)
Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz, Radeon x1950 pro.
Does not work with Catalyst 8.6 or 8.7 drivers. Havn't tried the fix.
I thought it was just a driver issue, but since config 2 works with latest driver, I puzzled.
My 5 cents

Hi Guys,
I've been using XBMC for some time on my Xboxes.
And I thought I'd give the Windows version a try, but I'm getting this 'Green Screen' problem on all video file types.
The difference is I'm not using an ATI GFX card.
I'm using a Dell 5150c which has an on-board Intel 945G Express chipset.
Setup is 32bit Vista and i've tried the latest drivers from Dell and Windows Update. Non of the Intel drivers will install. ?
So far i've had this problem with 'Rev14676' and 'Alantis Alpha 3'
Going to try the new 'Alpha 4' now.
Anyone got any ideas. ?
enable the glhack in advanced settings. (check manual)
Looks like kind of an old thread, but thought I would post my fix for this issue as I didn't see it addressed anywhere else in the thread.
FIX
Delete the file:
"C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\UserData\Database\MyVideos.d b" to fix the 'green screen' issue.
(not sure why the forum is putting an extra space between .d&b, should be MyVideos.db)
Note: The old db file was 8736KB, the new one is 1296KB. Not sure if something was corrupt in the file or if the file size itself caused an issue. Either way, if any devs want to look at my old db file I'd be happy to send a copy to you.
