View Full Version : Use your iPhone as a XBMC for Mac OS X remote
Modified the remote from
http://code.google.com/p/telekinesis-tapps/ a bit.
Don't know how many of you find this is useful, but I do and it works just great!

Some critical buttons i've missed? Some other buttons/functions you would like to see?
(even if the screen is quite full already if you want to keep it on 1 page w/o scrolling..)
The X is programmed to launch XBMC if not already running and in case it is, it acts as the enter button.
If someone's interested and don't want to make their own custom remote I could upload this after cleaning up a bit..

Nice! I'll give this a shot at home.
Thanks for sharing.
Well, here it is.

Not cleaned up.. there's still some other remotes etc.
But give it a try and try to make it even better!
Will post if I make some big changes.
Tried it with edge, works great.
Good night

Does it work on the iPod Touch as well?, ...not that I have one, just curious
Yeah, I don't see why it woudn't, but then just via WLAN, which drains the battery quite a lot..
Best option would probably be to have a flat-rate Edge subscription.
I'm amazed how fast the response time is with Edge.

zebb,
I haven't tried this out at home yet, but from the look of directory structure it seems to just require that users have Apache ("web sharing" in Applespeak) enabled, and have a working PHP environment. Is there anything else that we'll need to have working to use this?
Thanks
There isn't any possibility this could get to work with the internal webserver so it would work on Linux/xbox also?
Could someone tell me the difference between this remote control and the other two?

I only have tried the first one and its controlled using the webserver. The other one seems to be a native application.
Which one should I choose? They all seems great, but the one I've tried (the first one) seems not to be developed any more...

Hello markiz,
im not so familiar with the ones you mention, but don't you just browse your files with those and choose which one to play on your Xbox?
With this you control OsXbmx in the same way as you would with a normal xbox remote.
btw, someone tried this out already?
does it work for you?

Yeah, I would like your copy, it looks great! I was using VNsea to vnc into my mini, but that remote would be much more simple. Btw, are you running 1.1.3 on your phone?

You don't install it on the phone :( that's the ugly side of it..
You install the Telekinesis server on your Mac and then open the remote via Safari on your phone.
Hope you'll get it to work!

Does anyone want to build this in to XBMC? If the built in XBMC webserver had some logic that would recognize the user agent, notice that browser is mobile safari and serve up a page custom made for iphone. That way you just point you phone to the IP of you computer and click away.
it's already done, no ?

or with remote buddy but you have to pay 18$

a native app would be much cooler
i hate the webapps
Agree, I also hate the webapps.. But that was just and experiment.
It would be best to get Apple make the bluetooth support better so you could use it as a bluetooth remote with an native app.
Now when I have unlimited EDGE I hardly ever turn the WLAN on and with EDGE the reaction time is some few ms too high :/
Bought a Wireless Apple keyboard for now, the only downside is that if XBMC is not selected you can't control it and neither switch with command+tab...
With the iPhone remote XBMC didn't have to be selected.. if I remember correctly
anyone tried this: http://www.touchpadpro.com/ ?
WOW thats a nice piece of software!
Just tried this out and I am really impressed! Control of the XBMC mouse cursor under linux is not possible but you can use the "Remote" function to control XBMC. I am only missing a "stop" button, for now I fast forwarded to the end of the file ;)
The media server looked kind of cool, and XBMC does support Media keys IIRC. should be examples in Keymap.xml
To bad it isn't a linux app (for me)
