I understand there isn't a way to unzip .7zip files with XBMC... but is there a way (like using shortcut files) to get an app on your pc to unzip .7zip files then ftp them to a temp folder and get XBMC to run what you unzip (using emu's that support command lines)?

The short answer is no. Install your emulators and ROMs on your local harddrive like everyone else has been doing for the past 5+ years or so. If you want to launch emulators using special shortcuts and stuff, your best bet is the Retro-X python script that runs from XBMC. I have a tweaked version of this script almost ready for release but haven't had time lately to finish it up.
And if you don't have enough space on your harddrive, get a bigger harddrive.

NAh got plenty of space but the only way is to have them unzipped then?
No way or using .7zip?

Well fair enough, thanks.

where did you get the impression that you could somehow magically run 7zip on a computer from an Xbox running XBMC?

You could have them zipped and on the xbox (zipped not 7zip). Many emulators can handle zipped files and will unzip them when you attempt to play them. Of course you'd still have to have it on your xbox, and support for zipped or compressed files would depend on the emulator as not all support it. You may even find one which supports 7zip files but I don't recall seeing any.

yes, most Xport emulators can work with ROMs that are inside of zip files but I believe it is only individual ROMs. I don't believe you can just zip up your entire ROMs folder in one file. Also this only applies to ROMs, you cannot zip the executable, skin files, or anything else other than the ROMs.
