Hi,
I run xbmc on my xbox and love it.
Im interested to know if xbmc for linux will have a streaming component.
Id like the nice slick interface of xbmc to be served through the web/intranet so i can watch media on my laptop (for example)
i have a headless (gui-less) ubuntu server so anything but a streaming server is useless.
btw: ive tried jinzora but despite their claims... it really sux at being a video library/streamer.
any insight or suggestions for an alternative are appreciated.

Im guessing your laptop is windows...
There is currently work on a windows port. With this installed you could add samba shares from your server and stream like that. however I think the windows port is very far from being finished. (and in this case you have posted in the wrong forum)
If your laptop has ubuntu
You can also share the files on you server to xbmc for linux through samba.
As you already are running xbmc on an xbox, I'm guessing you are already sharing the files to your xbox through samba anyway so I don't see what your confusion is about.
If you are running windows and cant wait for the xbmc port to finish, maybe you should check out mediaportal which I'm assuming already handles samba shares and runs on windows.

yep, i have a billion smb shares... but the i have to use windoze file manager (!!) as my library.
i would *love* to use xbmc to categorize stuff for me, access imdb and set the watched/unwatched flags...
i dont really want to install client software (i might stream to a phone for example).
jinzora comes close but is really a music streamer.
many thanks.

No, windows file manager is just one program which can access files through smb. xbmc-windows will be able to(once further developed), media portal and most other media centers would be able to as well id say.

I doubt you will achieve any of this without installing an additional program on your laptop.
If its necessary to stay with windows id check out mediaportal although its not as good as xbmc in my opinion.
As for your phone, i doubt you will find a media center program for it.
If you are referring to using your laptop and phone to control your xbox version of xbmc, this is indeed possible through its internal webserver, you just need to turn it on in the "network settings" and your phone will need to have wifi.
maybe even check out mythtv as it can stream to some mobiles but id say its rather complicated and whats the point of watching videos on a phone anyway..
