i'm wondering about the donations to the project.
you can contribute in many ways, for example by supplying patches, helping other people with problems, testing, finding & reporting bugs etc. about donating money, we only do paypal at the moment. so if you want to donate some money then open up a paypal account (its pretty easy)
are people contributing?
yes people are contributing. most contributions are in the $5-$20 range. unfortunaly i cant make a living with it. in the 2 years doing this i received like $300 total
these bucks are spend on :
- paying/hosting this site
- shipping of executers to the winners of the contest
- a dvd burner 4 myself

too bad the paypal site is down for maintenance right now.
i'm wondering if you will develop full time xbmc and other interesting and usefull stuff if donation will be enough for live with them.
once again, thanx to all the staff.

i think an avarage/good proffesional programmer earns around $30.000-$60.000 a year, so doubt donations would ever be enough http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
well, imho, job must be a compromise between money and fun.
i prefere a funny job that i love and that excite me (and, well, that pehraps is free software development) instead of a rewarding, but unsatisfiyng one. but this is only my point of view.
paypal now is up and running! i will study about it.
happy life
i'm triyng to get an idea about paypal. i don't have a credit card, but it seems i can donate anyway. quite strange, where does they pick the money?
i've also seen this site: http://www.paypalsucks.com. that worried me a bit. any comments about it?
this is an off-topic, but since paypal is the only way to contribute to xbmc, i think it can worth the discussion here.
i registered at paypal and made my contribution in less then 15 mins, using my credit card.
2 days later i had a thankyou note ,about recieved money, from devs here.
thats the first and only time i've used it (so far).
and that does not suck...
300$!? my god i hope you have fun doing this ;)
is it possible to send you cash in a snail-mail envelope?
thnx

bump the thread a bit. i need the answer.
is there any risk for my donation if i open a/c in usa using fake address? (i'm not in the paypalable :) country)
and i need to know if it's safe to send cash via snail-mail, or if there's some risk to loose cash, or worst.
thank you!

i really wouldn't use a fake address... you might (might) try to use a relay-style thing. like, got a friend in the us? use their address with their permission. all i can think of at the momento.

thanks. fyi, added you to the "members +" forum group (for $50+ donations) (which simply show that you support the xbmc project)
get my wireless album look up for mp3/wma fixed in xbmc and i'd be happy to contribute! but to me this is one of my main features! i think wireless is being overlooked for wired connections!

heh if there wouldn't be a "!" at the end of every line this would be nice offer. but know it looks like an order and thats not the way to get a dev involved (even if you are so "generous" to spend some bucks if we fix it for you). :p
ah so thats what the + is for
man this is a sad state of affairs- according to all the "do you have xbmc installed on your xbox polls", seems like there are alot of people who are making use of the program and giving nothing back in return
if it weren't for this app these people would have to go out and fork out $80-100/£50-70 on one of those crappy divx standalone players (or even more on one of those mini shuttle pc's), and in the case of a standalone divx player you get about 30% of the functionality of xbmc
(this is the reasoning behind the amount i donated-because of xbmc i didn't go out and by a standalone divx player)
this is very disappointing :verysad: way worse than i expected
$300 in two years
sorry to hear that its this bad, i got even more respect for you guys after reading this- you're basically doing this for nothing, i can imagine this doesn't amount to much when split amongst the whole team
i think you have taken my poor grammer to heart a touch... please don't be offended. !!!! << means nothing to me i'm just to lazy to reach for the fullstop. sorry...
i'm not ordering/expecting anything and never did but a look into routers and xbmc would be greatly appreciated.
