Hi Guys,

I've just bought a 250gig HD for my Xbox - understand the whole fitting and installation process.

I read on the wiki that for drives larger than 137gb, you need a later version of the bios.

I believe (let's assume it is for the moment! ;) ) that my xbox is actually soft-modded rather than chipped, is it possible to update the BIOS with a soft-modded box?

Second question:

a) Can someone tell me where to find the bios file?
b) Can someone tell me *how* to find the bios file - how do I know which version I need, what "names" are these things known by etc?
c) Can someone tell me how to do it?

and finally

d) How do I tell if the Xbox is softmodded or actually chipped - I recall the XBMC settings didnt report on any chipping version etc - or something simmilar that makes me think it's not actually chipped! (I'm at work now, rather than just thick ;) ).

Apologies for all the questions, but although I'm quite comfortable with XMBC etc, I have absolutely no idea about bios's on these things!

Thanks in advance

You won't get much help on this forum about modding related questions.
This forums is strictly for xbmc related info.
I would suggest posting over at forums.xbox-scene.com with modding related questions.

Do a search for tsop flashing in this forum you should find some help.

TSOP is a shakey process... get a chip or just softmod the thing and clone the disk to a larger drive

Yah I've done it. You have to make sure you do all your homework about your specific chip before donig anything!!!

umm cloning the disk will not solve the 137gig limitation it's an lba problem even windows had to be patched for it.

This is why there is an F & G drive

I'm not sure if you're familiar with this particular limitation, But you can't get around the 137gig limmit without a new bios. It doesn't detect the space to even format another partition with. It thinks the drive only has 137gig.

to enable more than 256gig in a single partition you then need to format the drive with 32bit clusters and have a bios that supports one large partition instead of 2.

The only option in this case besides tsop flashing is putting in a modchip.

Which then has to be flashed with a bios that follows the previously listed criteria.
