Ok, basic details:

Hardmod xbox with excuter2 chip.

I have an older version of xbmc (1.0) running just fine, but I want to get a newer version so it will play subtitles and be able to play from .rar files over my local network.

I grabbed the latest stable T3CH build, created a new folder in E:/Apps/XBMC and threw it all in there, however when I go to run it the screen goes black and nothing happens (log file posted below).

Thanks in advance for the help and if any additional info is needed just let me know, I'll be happy to post whatever would help.

as you can see, that log doesn't have very much info, and is also from a really old build of XBMC (November 2006).
Google "t3ch", get yourself the latest T3CH build.
Delete the "new" build you FTPed over, then transfer over the newest T3CH build.
Once its transferred, do a test run. This time, when you first run the program, hold X+Y while it is starting up. That should put it in debug mode, which logs a LOT more info and will help figure out what the problem is.
use www.pastebin.com to hold the contents of your log.

I don't want to delete the working version of XBMC that I have now before I get another one working, so I've tried putting the files I get from XBMC-2.0.1-FINAL-SLIM-T3CH.rar into the games dir instead of apps (so I can know for sure what version I'm trying to run on the xbox). Even when I do this and it just goes black and does nothing else, the log I generate is the same as what I've posted before. I'll do it again in the morning to confirm and paste what I get with X+Y held. Thanks for the fast response.

You don't read and follow directions very well.

YOU said that you got "the latest T3CH build" and put it in E:\Apps\XBMC. As I said, the log you posted is from a build done on November 12th 2006. That means the build you are working with in the location E:\Apps\XBMC is from a long time ago, and the first thing anyone here will tell you is "get the latest T3CH build." No where did I say you need to delete the 1.0 version you have, since based on the information that you gave me, that isn't installed to E:\Apps\XBMC. Or am I missing something?

Ok, this is going to sound strange I know, and I'm probably doing something wrong, but here goes...

I have 2 versions of XBMC installed:

the old, working one in /F:/apps/XBMC/
and the new T3CH build in /E:/Apps/XBMC/

So when I go to my apps folder there are 2 versions of XBMC there, of course. When I click on the first one the screen goes black and nothing happens. I get the following in the xbmc.log file:

12:24:02 M: 54116352 NOTICE: -----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I click on the other XBMC icon my old version starts up and gives me the following log:

I know this seems crazy since the first log mentions the old version. Could there be something else that is pointing it to a different version or somehting? Thanks in advance.

Ok, so it seems I grabbed the "latest stable" version from the t3ch homepage, which in in fact from 11/2006. I'm now grabbing the real new version. I'll post back when I try it. Thanks.

No worries. Its hard sometimes for everybody to get on the same page, especially when the intuitive thing to do is to get the "stable" build. Either way it looks like the problem is something else entirely. How exactly are you getting the files for the new builds of XBMC onto your Xbox? I think the problem has gotta be either the files getting corrupt during transfer or a problem with the BIOS on your modchip. Do you know what BIOS you are running? (probably some version of Xecuter 2)

I'm using flashfxp to send over the files via the ftp server on the xbox. I have no clue what BIOS version I'm using, nor how to check, but if you'll show me where to look I'll be happy to find out and report back. Thanks.

As far as upgrading your X2, this link *might* help: Flashing Xecuter 2.x (http://www.xbox-modchips.com/tutorials/x2_2_flashbios_v1_0.htm)

I've got Xecuter3's, and I can access the modchip menu by holding down white while the xbox boots - see if yours can do that. Just plug your controller in Port 1, press Power, and then hold the white button until it loads (or you end up somewhere else, I don't know).

FlashFXP is the FTP client, but what do you have running on the Xbox as a server?

I have avalaunch running, I guess the ftp is set up through there. I'm not really 100% sure about all the dashboard and stuff like that, a friend of mine set it up for me ~2 years ago and I've stayed with it like that ever since. I'm not opposed to making changes to the dash or anything like that though, I am just cautious about it. Thanks for all the help.

Again, I'm not sure what is running the ftp server on the xbox, but its the generic port 21 xbox/xbox info.

I tried holding down white while the xbox boots and nothing happened.

Thanks again for all the help.

I just tired sending the files to the xbox via the xbmc ftp server and got the same thing (log below). Based on the earlier talk this might mean its a modchip BIOS issue perhaps? Thanks for all the help.

So if its not the ftp server that is the issue, then I need to look into flashing the BIOS on the chip, or could there be something else causing this issue? Thanks.
