When displaying all the albums, sorted by artist, in PMIII's 3D List view, I'd like to see an option (perhaps an advancedsetttings entry) to collapse the albums from a certain artist if the album count is creater than X.

The great thing with this option is that you wouldn't have to scroll through endless albums that you know you're not in the mood for listening too at the moment.
The "album representation" of the collapsed artist could look something like this if >= 12 albums:

The filtering would be reasonably simple. The combined thumbs would be reasonably tricky.
I don't really see the point though to be honest - if you want to ignore some artists, then browse by artist.

The suggested mini-thumbnails was just a proof of concept to illustrate my idea, but wouldn't be strictly necessary. Just displaying the first album with an overlay icon indicating that this artist has been collapsed would work too.

I was expecting this argument :;):
When I browse by artist I don't always find decide what to listen to. It sometimes require seeing the actual album to decide on it. Besides, browsing by albums is much more colorful due to the album art that's visible in this view.

Id like to see the grouping of album covers in the artist view. like in vista where you can see whats in a folder. The thumbs for artist would be the album covers within.

My desire for having this feature has just gotten stronger over the last few months so I'm writing another post in a desperate attempt at getting support. Maybe I should wait until you guys have had a fun weekend in Amsterdam :grin:
@jm - you said the filtering would be reasonably simple. How about something like what I suggest but just display the first (or random) album by the collapsed artist / band ?
Artist view becomes very 'cluttered', at least for me, since I have a lot of soundtracks and compilation where each artist is represented with just one song. It also is a lot less pleasing to look at due to lack of album covers.
There's an advanced setting that hides artists only found on compilations
