Basics-Vision
I had some spare time over the school holidays and started mucking around making a Basics-101 / VISION hybrid skin ( like they had sex and made a bastard child ) Pretty much its basics-101 redesigned into a vision look but more how I thought it should be.
The skin is now finished and ready for download. I call it "Basic-Vision" because I'm uncreative when it comes to names
Oh one side effect for people is since its a remake of basics-101 its really going to be 720p only with basic 16x9 support unlike Vision that supported 4x3 as well Hopefully I can get 4x3 support in but its not looking like its going to be easy :(
Make sure you check out the skin settings (Go left in settings) and check out how different it looks with "Use Alternate Home Layout" and "Use Full Icon Size" turned on

P.S Linux users may have a little problem with the alternate home screen until trunk gets merged

Jezz..you already know what I think about this peice of S*** (joke!)...it's my new default now and I cant see my putting anything else in it's place until another skin makes an appearance :D

Few bugs?
- Alternate homscreen doesnt show icons
- When i go to setting and for instance lets say 'Appearance', when i go back the icon shifts to the right and down. This happens everytime u choos an item and then go back to the settings screen.
- In the alternate home menu, how can i shutdown my xbox by using remote only?
Other than that it's an awsome skin. Hope u can get the above fixed so it stays default :)

I use the TNT Rom for my HTC Wizard phone. The background they use, looks the same as yours. Where did you get it?

You need a newer version of xbmc latest t3ch is probably requird

on the default one its the same as vision click a key when its a rest in the center else its the usual keys from keymap

Actually I was just googleing for a hi rez version of the original background from vision and found this and thought Oh that might look better I really have no idea where it came from originally but yeah its very vista like (you say that it is actually in Vista?) If anyone knows the original source please say so I can give credit

SyphOn then I have no idea I suggest maybe you look in system info and actually check your compile date because I know that not having the alternate fallback stuff jmarshall added in revision 11256 you get that extact error with the no icons in home and the off center icons in settings is from stuff added in 11047
I'll do a clean xbmc install :) got a lot of junk in the xbmc dir :P

great man, was missing that :)
but, how does it work in library mode? it would be nice to at least have the artist - album text... like it is on other skins it only shows the album name :(
And what about the the "other" coverflow/wraplist view that is in pm3... very nice...will that be in this skin?

Ok for now I have just added another .bat file called
BUILD_SKIN_If_Other_Dosn't_Work.bat
try it and see how you go its not as fancy as the other but hey it works
Those 2 new vies library mode only?

Is not a bug it was never put in. (not totally true I stuck it in one and it just ended up being to cropped and cut and really can't) this isn't suppossed to be the same as Vision.
Cases around coverflow probably not I don't like it plus it dosn't fit with the rest of the skin (not anywhere else)

I managed to write myself a little script to help me auto convert all the files good news is it worked :)
so here are some early shots of the homescreen converted to proper 4x3
Just as a note my converter screwed up coverflow so I will have to make 4x3 with no coverflow to start with until I can redo it

That looks great! Appreciate you taking the time to support 4:3. I understand it's a dying format but plenty folk still use it, and it's disappointing when most new skins do not feature 4:3.

I managed to write myself a little script to help me auto convert all the files good news is it worked :)is that something that other skinners could find usefull as well?, I guess it would be great for skinners if there was a script that could do the first major conversion from 16:9 to 4:3 (and vice versa), as then they would only have to tweak the details after if needed.
Maybe off-topic but what about a script that convert xml files for and from different resolutions, like from PAL 576p to NTSC 480p, and PAL 576p to 720p (and vice versa), etc?

Thanks for the Coverflow... Looks fantastic... I have a couple of observations...
On the Home screen when an album is playing, if the name is really long it gets lost off the edge of the screen (no doubt due to overscan). Would it be possible to shorten the the now playing text to leave a bit of a gap either end (say just a cm or 2) and have the text scroll?

Also, when in music library playing a song with a long title there can be some overlap of text at the top. I just looks abit cluttered/untidy... Perhaps a smaller font or limit the length of text box and scroll the text?

Hi Jezz_X. Just noticed that in 4:3 music coverflow view the quick scroll only seems to work in one direction. If I try to go the other way it gets stuck after 1 album. Weird.
Finally finished Coverflow for videos in 4x3 that marks the end of complete 4x3 conversion

I like the skin. One question...
Can you make the Home screen use coverflow? It would be sweet to have the menu for the screen selection be coverflow and the image it shows above the screen name text be a multi-image background set (that changes every few seconds). Similar to how backgrounds work on the Home screen with PM3 and Aeon except in a coverflow format.

jezz_x, loving the skin. I used to have Vision as my main skin, but now it's yours :)
One question, is it possible, and if so where can i do it, to change the order of the shutdown menu that pops up when you hit X while on the circle.
In Vision it used to default to shutdown, which i liked since i could easily shut off my xbox by pressing back -> X -> X. Right now it defaults to the Favourites button so I end up in apple movie trailers.
I tried looking through the skin files but was soon confused.

Hi Jezz. Noticed a couple of possible bugs...
Selecting "Programs" from the settings menu doesn't open anything at the moment. Noticed that if playing an ntsc video (on PAL 60) when paused the time played is slightly truncated.
Also the quick scroll arrows in the bottom right corner don't seem to be working quite right in any view. i.e. when I select the down button (keeping pressed the select button on the MS remote) I can quick scroll through any list as I do in PMIII. However if I try to scroll up through a list is just stops (despite the fact that I am holding the button down on the remote).
Great work on this skin by the way... My new default :)
1st 2 fixed and I updated the rar download as well
the page up down ones are somthing jmarshall will have to look at because I have no control over that sort of thing

If it's the spincontrol and it behaves differently between skins, I'm afraid I don't believe you.
If it's the same in both skins, then it's something I can fix.
pm3 dosn't have spin controls anymore :)

no I dont sorry and wont be adding it it allready has 2 alternate home screens I'm not adding a third plus the whole custom background thing looks really weird on most images because of all the transperant black in the images
Also coverflow is a hack at best an really dosn't work very well ot is very usefull when you really get into it its just pretty

Also coverflow is a hack at best an really dosn't work very well ot is very usefull when you really get into it its just pretty
I think you misunderstand... I'm not asking for a custom background at all. I'm saying use what would 'normally' be backgrounds for the covers in coverflow. It would work really well since it is just a few menu items (Videos, Music, etc), not a complete library or something.
It would definitely make the skin unique... I hope my explanation is clearer? I also hope you change your mind. :grin:

Wow....All I have to say is ....beautiful. Cover flow is great! I had this same idea but had no means of coding it. I have been using mc360 with big wide icons. Last 6 months lots of problems with images not rendering or disappearing. This is saving me a ton of time. No more spending hours making icons for the big wide icons. I've uploaded all movie posters, with hundreds of movies theirs no missing icons at all...huge plus. The only issue I discovered was after switching to alternative menu, no images display.......maybe this is a user error!

just wanted to post in and say this has been my default skin pretty much since it came out. Probably because you started with two other mature skins, this thing has had all the features I care about pretty much from day 1. There are actually no Views in this skin I find annoying, and the Media Info ones are especially awesome for Library Mode :) FWIW I use the alternate Home page and the regular skin.

SC, in the Scraper Settings you wanna turn on the IMPA awards and Poster Database options. That will give you ALL the available posters in the "Get Thumb" dialog, so then you can get the best quality and best looking posters. What resolution do you run? I use720p from an Xbox, and it looks awesome ;)

I useally manually search through the web to find the best one I like then stick it next to the movie as moviename.tbn file so I don't have to rescrape it on my 3 xbmc things I have installed (win32 for skinning, Xbox ad Linux versions)

Hey Jezz X... was wondering if you or jmarshall ever got to the bottom of why the "page up" button doesn't work in cover flow view. Not exactly a show-stopper I know (and certainly not enough to make me stop using this beautiful skin) but it would be great if it could be fixed... Anyway, thanks again for rejuvenating xbmc for us 4:3 users... :grin:
To Be honest MajorTom I completely forgot about it the only time I use coverflow is to show off to people what I made other than that never see it
We (jmarshall and I) did spend a lot of time talking about the issue but I'm not sure anything come about it. but it was somthign to do with the key repeat rate or somthing odd, the problem was it dosn't happen on the win32 build that jmarshall uses for debug so it got left behind

I wanted to share my collection of movie posters that I made. I've found that when you download then from IMP posters their all different sizes and shapes, and resolutions. I wanted them to be all the same so I edited them in Photoshop. I set all the resolutions to 72, height to 450 and width to 300. I will be posting a video on you tube soon so you can see what they look like. I also made a few categories for: Action, Adventure, Workout, SNL, sci-fi ect.

Hi Jezz_X.... I like the addition of album art in the centre circle of the homepage. I wonder however, if you could make it a switchable option (like displaying the time in the centre circle). I only ask as, believe it or not, XBMC is the only clock in our living room at the moment. Glad to see you're still coming up with fresh ideas for this skin either way. Thanks.

Unless you can build your own xbmc there is no point it requires xbmc revision 12300 or newer for it to work. which is newer than the latest t3ch

Well First I'd say I don't actually use an xbox these days (I use linux version) but it would seem odd that a skin with no scripts or anything just using XBMC built in stuff would cause your xbox to lock up. ???
What do you class as 1 hour of use ? actually browsing stuff or just letting it play music and walking off. You can tell if its running out of memory by looking at a debug log but this skin if anything should use less memory than pm3 :sad:
Anyway all that being said no I don't have that problem but like I said I use xbmc for linux these days

1 hour of use is either playing a video,or just idling at the home screen. I did find it odd that the skin might be the cause for it(never heard of some xml and images making a program crash like that), but the only thing that I changed was the skin to fix the issue. Checking the log ( i do have experience in reading those things, i code objective-c stuff for the mac) doesn't show anything odd, but like I said, it does seem like an out of memory freeze. I'm waiting for a new T3CH build to see if it remedies the situation.

I believe it might be memory for the following reason, I run XBMC on Linux and my xbox. The skin is fine on Linux but on the XBOX I have a few issues.
Playing 700mb Xvids with 5.1 with network cache set to 16meg fail with this skin... PM3 there fine. Changing the cache to 2meg makes them work.
1500mbit H264 videos with 5.1 aac fail on this skin whatever cache size (xbox only) PM3 plays fine.
Seems to point to the box running low on RAM.....
NOTE...
If i switch off Library mode they seem to play....
when you see open up the log this bit in bold is the memory left

Damn not having an edit button... anyway, that is from idling at the home screen in PM3. The time server not responding could be it timing out because of my torrents saturating my bandwidth, but I see mplayer exceptions, and a (duhn duhn duuuhhnnn) FATAL! exception...
so off to trying to track down the REAL cause. (And i don't use Library mode as Homer does, so I don't think that's an issue either...) Maybe my box is just getting a little too old for it's skin.

Loving this skin and all the new features but cant seem to get the fan art to scrape properly. I have t3ch 12263 and the latest svn of the skin. should it just work if i update tvshow information? Also it seems the get fanart button is not showing up, but there is a blank space above get thumbs.

Its in the video library (same as any skin) just go to the TV Episodes and seasons part and set the view type to Fanart
If you have none you will need to refresh info for the show then in the TVshow info window there is a get fan art button

Make sure you edit the Home.xml depending on your resolution, wide screen uses PAL16x9/Home.xml and standard screen uses PAL/Home.xml.
Also make sure you edit all the images in the item AND focus layout, to have it running smoothly, it's basically calculating the aspect for the size you want and edit the width/height value's

I've noticed that the recent versions of Basics-Vision are missing the FanArt view on the individual TV show listings. I know you are busy with Vision 2 ATM Jezz_X, but just wondering whether this is intentional, or a slip of the coding fingers? :)
If it's the latter, any chance it can be put back? Currently I'm using the old version and would love to upgrade, but like the fanart too much... :)
I'm after a bit of help in changing the single 'Video' selection into the standard 'Movies' and 'TV Shows' selection for this skin. It's my son's favourite and his Xbox is connected to a 4:3 TV making this skin ideal for fanart.
So I'd like to change 'Video' to 'Movies' and either add another selection for 'TV Shows' or just edit 'Pictures' to 'TV Shows'.
Any help or pointers would be hugely appreciated.
Well I've managed to work it out by editing the Home.xml for both layouts like so -

<label>Movies</label>
<onclick>ActivateWindow(VideoLibrary,MovieTitles)</onclick>

<label>TV Shows</label>

I placed my own icon_tvshow.png in the media folder which shows up in the alternative home layout -

I continue to use and enjoy this skin...just curious if it is still being supported. I haven't seen any updates here for a little while and was hoping I was missing another thread...

I would love to see media tags added, but I imagine JezzX is done with this skin and already has a lot on his plate. I'll continue to use it because it's still the best for my wants and needs (especially the DVD icons view for movies), but it would be awesome if someone skilled enough would come along and give it a nice update.

I've been trying to get media flags in but i cannot seem to get it to work correctly. anyone who is much more skilled then me able to lend a helping hand?
