HI NEWBIE need help please with xbmc and ftp

have just modded xbox yesterday with splinter cell and was able to ftp xbmc over
now i cant get a connection bewtween the two(laptop and xbox)
i am hoping to netowrk the two but having extreme difficulty

few things

1.how can i get the laptop to ping with the xbox(been trying all day)
2. hoping to set up samba but how can i confifure xboxmedia.xml(do iedit it on the pc or xbox?

If you have xboxmedia.xml you have a VERY old version. Make sure you are running the very latest and you should have no problem. Make sure you check out the wiki (http://xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Xbox_Media_Center_Online_Manual).

a few other notes:
-We only support T3CH builds. You will identify them by their release date. Newer = better. They come out ever few weeks, and you can find them by Googling T3CH.

XML is just a plaintext file that uses specific tag formatting. You can open and edit XMLs in any text editor, like Notepad. I prefer Notepad2 :)

Almost everything in XBMC can be set up from the graphic user interface, so unless you have a weird, advanced setting you need to change, you will not even have to touch XML files :)

i loaded up from t3ch the newer version
but have been googling for my answers because i couldnt share

anyway i messed it up and edited it a bit and now i find myself in deeper trouble.. xbox froze on start up:angry:
i deleted a few files then reloaded t3ch xbmc


i did manage to get xbmc but it froze again while watching some you tube after downloading loads of scripts
i rebooted the xbox and now it wont load past the xbox sign
it just freezes over:sniffle::sniffle:
do i have to reinstall it again?:confused2:
or can i start all over even though i cant get onto ms dashboard?:(
