View Full Version : Real Video & Audio Streaming (RM, RV, RAM, etc.)
would love to be able to play the internet realplayer streams, because not all stations are broadcasting using shoutcast

please add the realalterative codecs for decoding .rm files.
the way xbmp attempts to play rm does not work on any of my simpsons/south park episodes.
and..
please please, consider ading quickalternative codecs too.. these can play that really stinkin .mov files...
having those two codex on the xbox would save many users from infecting their computers with quicktime or realone garbage. (+spyware)
(not everybody knows about realalternative & quickalternative)
thank you, i know that whatver product you'll make - will be very cool...

is realalterative/quickalternative open source?, if not then niether ffmpeg, mplayer, xine or xbmc can use it.

the site does not give any licensing information, but from what i can gather the rm/qt alternative packages are free and more than likely open-source.

just wanted to know if there are any plans on adding the facility to play real media streams? (.rm, .ram). i usually listen the radios and tv stations of a lot of countries around the world via that format (as that is one they support most, the other is windows media streams).
so the questions really is
will we see support for:
1. real media audio streams
2. windows media audio streams
3. real media video streams
4. windows media video streams
just would like to know if there are plans for this and if its actually possible... thanks in advance and thanks for your efforts in bringing us this wonderfull program... you guys are the best....
p.s. sample of the type of stream im talking about is
http://www.voanews.com/real/live/radiosawa.ram
there are plans for it yes
however we got a zillion things we wanna add to xbmc
and so little time...
frodo
:) im really happy to hear that frodo... thanks a million... keep up the amazing work....peace bro.
thank you! i am very much looking forward to this.
because the swedish tv and radio are sending webtv and radio via real.
keep up the good work!
the ability to open realplayer streaming files (.ram files, methinks) would be great alongside shoutcast support, as would the ability to put winamp visualisations into xmbc, since all they do it use calculations to generate images.

forgive me if this has already been suggested or implimented, but...
would it be possible to add support for real player audio streams for instance, bbc radio streams which use real player, and also would it be possible to setup schedules to record online streams?
rob
hi there, had a quick look in the search but couldn't find anything like this idea. what i was thinking is if real audio streaming isn't possible, is there a way to stream the real audio to a pc and then have it converted to a shoutcast stream for play back on the xbox?
can anyone else think of another way of achieving real audio on the xbox? i really want to listen to bbc radio stations hehe...
good work overall though :d

<my 1st post!> can i just 2nd this. this would be a "real" winner for me too on account of the bbc streams - (eg radio 4, radio 5 live and the great radio 6 for music). not quite sure why the bbc of all people use this proprietary (and annoying) format, ogg or mp3 would be best perhaps, but that's another debate - *i think they looked at ogg at one point.
if it can have a nice suntax in the .xml config file to add the streams that'd be great.
sorry if this is difficult/impossible to implement, i don't know if the real audio stream is something that's easy to include (reverse engineer?). i do know that the bbc content would be great for me though!
as ever, thanks to all the devs for all the great work on xbmc, it evolves and improves with every release.

both end-users and developers should know that there is more than one way media files are streamed from the internet, like:
- streaming media files from http (internet) (link to more info for both devs and users) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817642&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
- real-time streaming protocol ( rtsp/rtp ) (link to more info for both devs and users) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817647&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
- realmedia rtsp/rdt streaming from internet (link to more info for both devs and users) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817648&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
mplayer supports streaming from above but not sure if xbox bios/os & xdk-libs do by so devs might have to code workaround
senonded here! i'd love to get the bbc radio streams ..
e.g.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/trueblues.rpm
(contains rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/wales/radiowales/trueblues.ra)
through my xbox.
keep up the good work guys :)

i currently use xbmc to play all my media mp3,s etc but i still have to use xebian linux & mplayer to play audio streams such as those played by windows media player but i dont know if mplayer plays backs ram streams.
i know xbmc does play back some streams such as web tv using .strm files but it still seems to fail to work on the radio stations. *i dont mind using xebian & mplayer to playback these types of audio streams but it would be very handy if xbmc played all the streams that mplayer does.
the ability to open realplayer streaming files (.ram files, methinks) would be great alongside shoutcast support, as would the ability to put winamp visualisations into xmbc, since all they do it use calculations to generate images.
winamp visualisations is a bit more than "just" generating images... i don't think we'll be seeing them in xbmc (unless author's specifically port the code over).
i am trying to play a real video stream. i put the link below in a strm file but it won't play. from what i've found through searches is that it will work but, no one says how they did it. i am using the xbmc-2004-03-09 build.
thanks for any help.
rtsp://209.215.175.40:554/encoder/wmar/wmar-abc2500-live.rm?cloakport=8480,554,7070
i have also tried these variations:
rtsp://209.215.175.40:554/encoder/wmar/wmar-abc2500-live.rm
http://209.215.175.40:554/encoder....54,7070 (http://209.215.175.40:554/encoder/wmar/wmar-abc2500-live.rm?cloakport=8480,554,7070)
http://209.215.175.40:554/encoder/wmar/wmar-abc2500-live.rm
and mms:// variations of the above

real streams is not supported yet, rm does not use mms and neither does it's stream the same way of http, see here (link) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=87054&atid=581841&func=detail&aid=817648)

are real streams supported now ? because i noticed a new mplayer in xbmc build 3-27-2004.
no.. still not supported.
check bugs.txt to see all the latest changes.
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/xbmc/xbmc/bugs.txt
a new mplayer.dll does not mean that there is support for it.

hello,
i use xbmc version 2004-03-09 and ccxstream server 0.3.4
i have a particular radio stream which uses realplayer to stream its signal.
http://www.decibel.nl/live/live.ram
or
http://www.decibel.nl/live/live.rpm
both of them are working in internet explorer
i've tried *the following:
-copied the link into a notepad and renamed the file into .strm
-copied the link into a notepad and renamed the file into .rm
-copied the link into a notepad and renamed the file into .sc
neither of the options worked and only crashes xbmc.
is this a bug or are these kind of streams not yet supported?
i''ve also a bunch of .sc files (shoutcast) which were installed with the latest evox version, but seemed not to be supported in xbmc. when i view the file it contains for example the following:
shoutcast://24.226.84.222:1080
i only can get it to work when i change it to
http://24.226.84.222:1080 and rename the file into .strm
thx for any suggestion
snuf
unfortunately xbmc does not play realmedia streams because mplayer does not do the natively.

xbmc does not yet support streaming realmedia (or any other real format) from the internet. ps! shoutcast is never ever real http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
i have some web radio that i use to listen to.
some are in .m3u files. for these i've simply copied the .m3u files in the /album/playlists directory and they works great.
but what about realplayer urls ?
searching through the forum i've understood it is possible to play them ... but where do i should add those links?
(same story for windows mediaplayer links)
thank you for any answer.

what about realplayer urls? searching through the forum i've understood it is possible to play them ...?you must have search the wrong forum, or simple read the post incorrectly. realmedia internet streama are still not supported.
you can play real media files downloaded from streaming sources with xbmc i have done it many times. use a download manager that supports rstp and you can save them and playback on the xbox. of course live broadcasts don't really work with that method but im just glad i can watch it =)

you can play real media files downloaded from streaming sources with xbmc i have done it many times. use a download manager...yes you can (personaly i use nettransport) but that isn't the same as internet streaming directly to xbmc which is the topic here http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

hi,
yes no real streams supported yet.
man o man.. people just don't seem to read posts anymore :d

this thread is funny

hehe, reason this thread (+ many more feature suggestions threads) reads funny is because we merged several threads together into one.
...sigh, if people only searched the whole forums (from "the beginning") then we would not have to keep merging threads together :p

if real media isn't supported, why is the rm extension placed as one of the default extensions in the configuration file?
are there plans to implement it or is it not legal?

can anybody open this stream in xbmc?

sorry about creating another thread on this topic but it seems like the other(s) have gotten buried. so presently it is my understanding that xbmc does not support playing rm files via rtsp which is due to a limitation in mplayer.
however, it seems as though there is some support for this protocol via live.com streaming media libraries which appear to be reasonably easy to port to run on the xbox.
relevant information can be found here:
http://www.live.com/mplayer/
http://www.live.com/livemedia/
i'll try to look into this myself but it is probably a bit beyond my current abilities and i'd appreciate any of the more serious developers taking a look at it to assess the feasibility.
Gamester17

relevant information can be found here:
http://www.live.com/mplayer/
http://www.live.com/livemedia/not relative since those libs from livedotcom do not support realaudio/realvideo rtsp streaming, see www.live.com/mplayer/ (http://www.live.com/mplayer/):note that the live.com streaming media libraries do not support realaudio and/or realvideo streams - even those described by a "rtsp://" url - because these streams do not use rtp for transport. (instead, these streams use realnetworks' proprietary "rdt" protocol.)
recently, however, mplayer was updated so that it can play realaudio/realvideo "rtsp://" streams. it does this by first checking whether the url ends with ".rm" or ".ra". if it does, it handles it as a special case, not using the live.com streaming media support. otherwise, it uses the live.com streaming media support, as usual.
again, more technical information for devs and end-users can be found here: realmedia rtsp/rdt streaming from internet (link) (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=817648&group_id=87054&atid=581841)
what about this ?
fyi, mplayer 1.0pre1 and later can now play realaudio (ra) /
realvideo (rm / rv) "rtsp://" streams. it does this by first
checking whether the url ends with ".rm" or ".ra". if it does
it
handles it as a special case for rdt, not using the live.com
streaming media support. (otherwise, it uses the live.com
streaming media libraires for all non-real rtsp/rtp, as usual). http://sourceforge.net/tracker....=817648 (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=87054&atid=581841&func=detail&aid=817648)

hi,
i recently traded my old pc with tv out for a nice and shiny xbox with xmbc on it. now i've successfully changed most things i want about locations etc. but when i tried to add a bookmark to a specific realplayer stream, such as this never changing link to the latest dutch news online (link: http://cgi.omroep.nl/cgi-bin/streams?/tv/nos/journaal/bb.laatste.rm)
it simply ignores it. any suggestions as to how this could be done?
thanks
yea do a search.....
