Can play avi's from cd but not from SMB

hey all,

heres one that has me stumped. i can play these avi files if i burn them onto cd (or transfer them to the xbox) and watch them in xbmc. so it is not a codec issue. when i try to play these 350 meg files over samba they wont play. xbmc seems to try to load it and then nothing happens and it allows me to select a different file. seems strange that it is only streaming that is affected. i can watch dvd's over samba no problem....

any ideas?

for arguments sake, create a user/pass for the smb share and use that.

<path>smb://user:pass@192.168.1.19/share</path>

let's see if the issue is related to that at all.

other threads have shown that people report similar issues. another thing to try is to place the video in a subdirectory off your share.

i think it is actually a fault on the server. i am able to stream the avi once i make a copy of it. i beleive the xp machine is causing the problem.
