I have had my xbox since Jan 07 and it was modded with a Nov 06 XBMC install.
Works a treat and I very recently changed the output to 720p.
What reasons/benefits would there be to upgrade to a new build?

this is all opinion but...
2.0.1 is the latest "stable" build. If you dont have at least that, do it now!
anything from version 1 is badly outdated, and very limited.
t3ch releases current builds once a week or so, but they tend to be buggy. they are still worth using tho. they do add some features, more advanced skinning engine etc... On my box, i keep a folder called xbmc2. in it, latest t3ch build. i map a universal remote key to launch its .xbe:;):

Been a heck of a lot of changes since then. The addition of the TV node is worth the upgrade alone (IMO).

You could install the latest version (in a different location than you're currently running) and start it by activating the .xbe from filemanager. That would allow you to check it out first.

I've just checked: my build already is 2.0.1 [12th Nov 2006]

So - stick with this or upgrade to another: if so which one? Stability is important!

just grab latest t3ch, put in separate dir. and test for a while, if it has bugs you can always start the other one at any point.

I'd be grateful if you stated how to do this! :)

If you open the Kepmap.xml file (usually here - E\Applications\XBMC\UserData) with notepad - there is a text segment at the beginning that tells how to setup a universal remote. You'll have to map the button to the location of your (latest XBMC version) .xbe file.
