Script/Plugin...what's the difference?

Just curious...
What is the difference between a script and a plugin? I know there is a big differences in how they are installed but as a developer, why would you create a plugin instead of a script? And vice versa, I guess.
Sorry if it's a stupid question but just curious.

With a script you have to create your own interface for the script with a plugin you use xbmc's build in explorer and only change settings to the inferface
