Have you actually checked the online manual?
no i will chk now!
ok ive looked at online manual but its to hard for me to do!
As mentioned im a complete non tech.
Can anypoint to complete step by step upgrade i could refer to!?
A kinda XMBC for dummies!!! ???
if you don't understand the manual, then it may be a good idea to have someone more savvy handle the update.
unfortunately i dont know anyone at the mo!
but i think i could manage it! i got ubuntu gutsy going...configured and everything!
So i might be able to...
there's no "installation" really for Xbox apps, its simply a matter of getting the files into place on the harddisk. You cannot have looked very hard, there are several guides for this.
See: http://www.google.com/search?q=updating+XBMC
In that case...i will look some more into it..
thank you for you help so far...( i might need more):;):
ok im resurectting this thread because i need help.

Read how to load unleashX.. if you dont have unleashx.. read how to FTP and get a copy and put it in programs
Load unleashx
FTP all the xbmc files over teh current existing ones.. it is pretty much like copying and pasting a folder...
Otherwise.. That is about as plain english as it gets

If you do this, aren't there some files that do not get overwritten?

The machine is still on. Just make sure you're running another dashboard. This can be Unleash, Evox, or another instance of XBMC as long as it isn't the same name as your default installation.
For example, if your default installation is E:\Apps\XBMC then you cannot be running the dash from E:\Apps\XBMC and expect to be able to overwrite it. Instead, make another installation of XBMC and name it something like E:\Apps\XBMCupdate or anything else to make sure you aren't running your default installation.
I have my default as E:\Apps\XBMC and several other instances of XBMC such as E:\Apps\XBMC 9.04.1-fixed and XBMC 22708 and XBMC Jan 25. I just run one of the latter three when doing an update.
If I get my update from "XBMC nightly builds" I unzip it so that it is named BUILD and then copy over my UserData, plugins, and scripts folders from my XBMC directory. I then run another dash such as my E:\Apps\XBMC 9.04.1-fixed by going to the file manager and running E:\Apps\XBMC 9.04.1-fixed\default.xbe. Once I'm running this dash, I rename my current XBMC folder into "XBMC revision number" and then rename E:\Apps\BUILD into E:\Apps\XBMC so that it's the same name as my default installation.
If your default installation has a different setup, then make sure you alter these instructions accordingly so that you're able to boot to XBMC. Some names are E:\dash or E:\dashboard. It all depends on how you're modded.
Hopefully this makes sense. Good luck.
