Basics-101
The Basics-101 skin is based on the graphics that Mikebeecham
did for his Pandora skin mockups.
(it uses its icons, its background image and color scheme).
And they look great all credit to Mikebeecham for a great effort
!!!Please note this is not the Pandora skin.!!!
It is a skin that I intend to use as my main media center skin
on Linux port of XBMC and is really only designed originally for
media playback only not games play.
I took ideas from a few other skins that I have done or liked
Its very xTV in style and also has a few touches of Vision thrown
in for good measure (side bars and nav sounds)
This skin is for 720p 1080i only though I did include a basic
Pal16x9 font file but the icon images look real blocky edges
scaled down to that size
.
Its simple has no fancy view types (except Media Info) or
Animations It has large readable font (xbox people may need to
size it down a little it was meant for my 1360x768 rez of my
TV that Linux full screen uses)
If you got the premade skins instead of from the SVN Ignore this.
As I said it was made for Linux so by default there are no links
to "Programs" section you will need to run Build_for_Xbox.bat if
you want to use it on the xbox. Other wise run Build_for_Media.bat
!!! This skin has no KAI Stuff in it at all if you use KAI in XBMC
pick another skin This one wont work for you !!!
It designed to be super mouse friendly (its for Linux remember)
And has 1 Setting in the Settings Page side bar that will add some
extra mouse features like moving the mouse over the right edge
will open the shutdown menu (right click needed to close) and also
while media is playing a hotspot will be in the middle of the
bottom of the screen that will open Player Controls so you can
FF RW Stop Pause etc... with the mouse. (right click needed to close)
I recommend that you up your icon cache to at least 384 anything
smaller and list view looks pretty average. But again like I said
its for Linux xbox might lag a little with that size cache.

Thanks I've actually been working on it in secret for a few months and when I got mikebeecham to let me use his fantastic images it all started to fall together quickly I think it came out nicely

P.S. don't go running AMT and Lyrics scripts on linux yet Lyrics will crash XBMC_Linux and lock your mouse in X when you exit the script, and for AMT to work you will need for the trunk to be merged again because the skin is designed for a higher version of AMT that is at the moment incompatible with the current Linux Branch

I'm just really chuffed that my icons got used in the end. And it's a great looking skin. As soon as I've gotten home I am going to try it out
stupid question maybe but.. Is this only for linux xbmc, or does it work on the xbox as well? Looks really nice, great job jezz

Well if you actually read the first post it has a link to both xbox version (has game support) and the media verison (no game support)
It also says Kai dosn't work but other than that yes it works on xbox but was designed for linux version
720p and 1080i only
But like I said its all in the first post

Not by me I only made it to suite my needs for linux build of xbmc for a while I wasn't even going to let the public have it and just keep it myself. But I decided that mikes Icons needed to se the light so others can also use his hard work.
That being said if you download the svn 1/2 the dimensions of the icons before you make the skin and copy the 16x9 font.xml file into a 4x3 dir it should look semi decent and in decent enough aspect ratio

Well I have made changes to the SVN to make those links the same as PM3 (should work for you) but If the ones I had didn't work then that means your XBMC is out of date even if you think its not. jmarshall added the support for the lines I used over a month ago.
I suggest you go into PM3 then check system info for the compile date of your xbe.
But basically if those buttons don't work other things will not work properly either like the media info views will be all wrong

I am liking this skin very much -- clean, elegant, simple.
Although I am experiencing some problems: XBMC locks up when I try to change to a different skin, and occasionally it will lock up when I am playing media in the background and navigate to other folders. I am using this week's T3CH release of XBMC, and not getting these lockups with other skins.
So not my default skin yet, but it's looking good.

I was looking through the keymap.xml and didn't see anything special for the mouse, how can I adjust what the mouse buttons do
i.e. Button2 = ParentDir, Button3=PreviousMenu, Button4 = Up, Button5 = Down
awesome skin It's now my default on linux.

stupid no edit button.
There are a few other things I found while playing with the skin. Could a button be added to the music and video screens to go fullscreen also for car pc use could a back/menu button be added to the skin? Also the hotspot media controls only work in the videos not the fullscreen audio.

Here is an updated version for the latest t3ch and up I recomend UP it fixed a small error in text
The Color themes have been removed and need to be updated you can now download the updated versions from in the skin (go to settings then left so the menu opens and select skin settings its the first option)
The skin is pretty much the same just a few new features for people in skin settings

2007-11-18 1001 Updated : Basics-101 now use the new way of string localization which is the same as XBMC you will need revision 10780 or higher of XBMC for this to work. No more copying over translate.xml files to get your own custom language you just need to make a file in the language did of the skin and translate it (when XBMC changes language so does the skin if the translated file exists). I also added a test french translation. Its probably 100% wrong because I used bablefish on the net. If you have translations get in contact with me on XBMC or xbox-scene forums so I can add them to SVN Sorry linux guys you will have to wait until the next merge for it to work

Changed : for want of a better word Media Info 2 view in library is now "Anamorphic" meaning that the layout of the view depends on what the content type is Movies is how it used to be TVShows are wide icons and the default is a square thumbnail useful for music videos and episodes (XBMC SVN 10911 or higher needed to work)

The real issue is basics-101 prides itself on being mouse freindly and the coverflow stuff really isn't very mouse freindly at all
Why does it say "Xbox Media Center SVN" on the right hand side of each list item in list mode?
Also the title button doesnt work when video is playing. Have I screwed something up?

Blackbolts site links aren't working.
This is on an xbox with XBMC-2008-01-16-PIMPED
found one minor detail: in the Movie Information screen, the plot synopsis auto-scrolls, but the Plot Outline does not. This means it just goes off the edge of the page, and also doesn't have the visual impact of PM3's "lots of stuff is scrolling, holy crap!" screen ;)

its a list you go up and down on it and when selected it will scroll
Jezz, do you have a recent revision of this for the xbox?
I am having trouble with a new build (see posts above).
By the way fantastic work, I absolutely love this theme.

Wow! Just did a build of the now 4:3 compatible version and have to say I'm most impressed! What suprised me most is the fit and finished you've already achieved... Normally when I try work in progress skins I get text ovelaps / cutoffs etc but see non of these in Vision-Basics. Looking forward to coverflow but other than that this is already a beautiful (and usable) skin. I love PMIII, but am ready for a change after all this time, and there is so little support for 4:3. Thanks Jezz_X.

But yeah really its just keyboard, Library Media info views and scripts (AMT / Lyrics to go though all are still useable except coverflow that I will have to redo from scatch anyway :sad:
