All backgrounds are now available (in 1080p) from the AEON website:

why not publish a torrent of it and I we can seed it and save everyone the bandwith costs?

Not the fastest speed but i think it is enough.

Download uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/).
File->Create New Torrent.
Add your files/directories (I'd recommend a single rar file for simplicity).
Check the "start seeding" box and create/save-as.
Give us the .torrent file it creates.
Leave uTorrent running until a few more seeds show up.
Alternately, send me an email at scott@thetvdb.com and I'll let you put this on my server.

If you are using DHT in uTorrent then theres no need for a tracker.
So just enable DHT and it will work.

Cheers for the link. I think it's pretty much reiterating what was said in a previous post. The issue seems to be whether there are any trackers associated with it, or something. I know bugger all about torrents - was always a usenet man, myself.

how about having a standard folder for the BGs... this way it is easy to leverage them from multiple skins, if needed and also you can code it into the core Xephyr build so we do not need to mod the skin with each new build.
I have a ton of backgrounds I'm using in PM3 that will float over to Xephyr and also have other categories for more types of things... I like to put my most used items (scripts) on the main menu so they are easy to get to.

I started posting in the xephyr main topic but seems this place would be much more appropriated.
I'm looking to make (and share) as most Xephyr backpacks as possible, and I wanted to ask you people where you would find you original images? As hitcher said earlier in the topic, it's hard to find "pure" images, without logos and stuff...
I'm looking for games, tv shows, movies, and music (electronic/hip hop mainly) hi def images to work with.
Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated and I would obviously share back my wallpapers ;) Thanks in advance :)

well, for me personally, to find images like that I need to do a lot of searching, then I find what I want, then I photoshop it to death to get what I want. For example, I just went on a search to find a good Alicia Keys wallpaper.

That image would be a great starting point, and then you just maybe add a couple of effects... other than that, I don't know where people are finding those, although the first places I would look are google or Deviantart.

It should be easy enough to do that with a preview option as well to download straight into your xbox. i could even try doing that if I use letraitplat's website...

If you read through the forum that you found the skin in there are mods that add more views to the skin plus there's also details of the views and changes that djh is planning to make to the skin in the (hopefully near) future

Maybe Blackmarket can integrate ways to upload bmps for Xephyr. You would then also be able to have a script to preview and download the wallpapers you want.
otherwise i could make a script for letretplats website if he is willing and he decides to collect all the bmps separately on his site.

I'm having a pretty minor problem. When I scroll left to right on the main home screen the background image doesn't change it stay the same. I Think it happened when I upgraded to V7. I've already assigned folders to to TV, Movie, Clips etc so can rule that out. Any idea's ?

I've tweaked Xephyr for widescreen 480p (don't have a 720p capable tv).Please submit those 480p XML files as a patch to djh_ (the author of the Xephyr skin) so that he can maybe someday include those as 480p support in his official releases, ...it could lead to more people enjoying this wonderfull looking skin.
...but now I'm wondering if I need the 1280x720 backgrounds or if I'm just wasting memory. Does anyone know what the optimal image size would be for 480p?1280x720 backgrounds should be fine even under 480p (as long as it is a 16:9 widescreen display). Otherwise you might want to try with 720x480 anamorphic (meaning that the pixels are not square), I believe the vertical should be streatched to about 576 pixels on the screen, ...so if you could use standard 720x576 non-anamorphic pictures and XBMC will scale those for you (that way those same pictures can be used under PAL and NTSC just as well), or you can take a 720x576 picture and shrink the vertical to 480 pixels (but then those pictures can only be used on NTSC displayes).
I think that the best option is just to use the existing 1280x720 (720p) backgrounds :;):

Where ever you want - you select the path for them in Xephyr's option.

Now I just need to go through and delete the ones I don't want ;)

If you're running XBMC on Xbox it'll take a split-second longer to load PNG images. Not a problem if you're happy to make the compromise. If it's distribution you're worried about, bear in mind that BMP files compress really well into RAR or ZIP archives.
Ahh i get it. yea i think i prefer render speed then harddisk space. is jpg worst in term of speed?
ps: thanks djh for Xephyr. sure make XBMC looks like a $1000+ system on 60" HD TV.

I'm glad you posted this as it highlights something I've been meaning to address for a while: the arrangement of backdrops in relation to Aeon's interface. The thing I've always tried to do with my backdrops is ensure that nothing significant is obscured by the horizontal menu. Faces, in other words, or other objects of interest. You mightn't think it to look at them, but some of the backdrops on the site took over an hour to pull apart and recompose, just because someone or something was standing in the wrong place. The Transformers one is a perfect example, the Battlestar Galactica one another.
I've always meant to do a Photoshop template to help with this, with guides indicating the positions of the various interface objects. You've just inspired me to actually do it, and go one further by providing some handy hints. Don't get me wrong: I'm not trying to sound condescending. But there are a few simple things that it's easy to overlook.
- don't go with faces that occupy the entire wallpaper - you'll end up with the menu running right through their nose or, even worse, giving them a glass moustache. I broke this rule myself with a recent wallpaper, but only because there were several other full-length characters in the frame and it seemed a shame to waste a good image.
- if you're using full-length portraits of people, try and crop them so there's a little variation in width. So if they're carrying something or wearing irregularly-shaped clothes, try and get as much of that in without losing their face off the screen. Otherwise, what you essentially get is a straight line running up the screen - not too interesting to look at.
- be wary of the time panel on the top right of the screen. If all the action in a wallpaper's on the right hand side, I tend to flip the image in Photoshop so it's on the left. The caveat, of course, is that you can't do this when there's text in the image - it'll be reversed. I've made that mistake a few times.
- a little noise is better than none, or a lot. Many of the press promos and such that come my way can be quite noisy, or otherwise badly compressed. I tend to go at these with a really aggressive noise reduction filter in Photoshop, followed by further, localised filters on flat areas, where irregularities are most obvious. Then I'll use a really slight noise filter on the overall image, giving the impression of sharpness after everything's been smoothed out.
- never upscale, or do it cleverly. Sometimes, when I just can't crop an image how I'd like without it being too thin, I'll artificially widen it. But I always try and avoid stretching, usually through extensive use of cut, paste, low-intensity erasure and Photoshop's miraculous Patch tool. And I always keep this to background areas and flat surfaces - never to detail areas such as people or foreground objects. Done right, you'd never notice the difference. If you look at the Kill Bill and recent Underworld wallpaper on the site, both of these were extensively fudged to make them 16:9.
- on a side note, the vignetting (darkening) of the screen corners in Aeon does a great job of focusing and framing whatever backdrops you use, especially if there's a surplus of empty space involved. So don't immediately think a wallpaper looks flat or uninteresting - you'd be surprised.

I never even thought about that when I did the background. I should have. My excuse if I use your Backdrops in my own Fusion skin which doesn't have anything obscuring the image. A photoshop template would indeed be great so those of us that don't run your skin can still take those things into consideration.
I love them, but how do I install these?
Just stick them in a folder anywhere you want on the Xbox and then in the Aeon options you can point to the folder.
Check the aeonismine.com website in an hour or so... there'll be full instructions. Or just bung the images in some folders on your HTPC, go to the Aeon settings in the XBMC menu and target them from there.
Is it someway i can upload Backdrops to the aeonismine.com website or should i just post them here?

BTW The transitions are SO smooth in the main menus. It was kind of glitchy on the Xbox but I see that it was just a lack of HW power. Really really nice looking in Linux w/ HDMI.

Hehe, thanks for the kind words. That's all I have! I found the source images by going to Google Image Search (http://images.google.com/), clicking Advance Image Search and then choosing Extra Large in the drop-down box for "Return images that are". Believe it or not, I rolled through my entire My Music folder (closing in on 800 albums) and basically searched for every musician/band that I liked! So those 21 backdrops were created from the only cool pics I could find. If someone knows of a huge hi res picture repository somewhere, be they desktop backgrounds or whatever, well, fess up! I'd love to make some more backdrops, I just need more pics!
Anyway, my little backdrop pack has been downloaded 42 times, so I'm glad some folks out there are enjoying them!

There are no update packs anymore, I'm afraid. I was averaging between 5-10gb of bandwidth a day with those.

Forgive my ignorance as I don't use XBMC but may I ask why are you using *.bmp ?

Looks like 'The Kingdom' is not working on the movies page.
Forgive my ignorance as I don't use XBMC but may I ask why are you using *.bmp ?
having images as *.jpg would greatly reduce size while maintaining acceptable image quality (1920x1080 ~ 500-700 Kb):

i think it has something to do with the "Fact"?! that bmps are not compressed and are handled far better.
Put simply, load times. XBMC's BMP reader is notably faster than its JPEG one, meaning that you get a split-second pause before JPEG transitions. The same goes for PNG, unfortunately.
.. Also the second Battlestar Galatica (the one with the woman in red) is not linking to the correct file on the tv page.
oh and it seems 24 and Angel did not upload correctly as the zips seem corrupt. Ta.

for example...if i highlight Smallville...then the backdrop would change to smallville.
if i then scroll down to south park...the backdrop will change to southpark.

for the first part of your question, the skin doesan't work like that... what your describing IS basically fanart, except you would have to enter the directory of the tv show to get the fanart... plus fanart is not supported in the official Aeon, though it is supported in the newest release of the Aeon Mod.

Resizing the images with that windows resizer that integrates in the shell changed the files sizes from about 6 megs to 2.3 megs with no reduction in quality on my 720p display, and it loads considerably faster and doesn't ever switch to "black".
Its on a xbox xbmc.

Also I should add that these have been made with the 'central' bar placement in mind - I'm not sure if it will look messed up if you enable the lower bar available in the newer release.

JPG to .BMP for a lag-free transition, i cant get the smooth transition with those .BMP backdrop that are converted from .JPG or i guess its only me. I am using OSXBMC on Macbook.

Now that fanart is in I have been going through and adding images to all of my movies. DJH and the others in this thread have been nice enough to contribute lots of good images, however there are a few problems.
First, often times the fanart is basically the same as the poster so you get a redundant image on the screen. Second, I have large collection of anime and other obscure movies that are nearly impossible to find any decent images for. I have started browsing many of the anime fan sites and using screencaps for movies that are too obscure. I have a decent sized collection put together that I would be happy to share. However, we need to find a common place that we can put all of our fanart for the community to use. Perhaps thetvdb's sister site movie-xml. I might be mistaken but I think our good friend scott from tvdb is still involved in that project.
Anyone have any other ideas. I know that crni and the guys over at the meedio forums have been having a similar discussion. Cheers.

Is it ok to make requests? I can't seem to find quality pictures or even quality album covers to make backdrops of.. Im looking for a 1080x1920 ones only.
Ive looked through the thread and there are not much music artists backdrops to fit my taste. so since its very hard to define my musical taste is it ok to make special requests?
Hows everyone doin? First off, I just have to say, Im fairly new to Aeon, and it just continues to amaze me. As I have been using XBMC for quite some time now, I was always kinda stuck on PMIII, but once I got the guts the make the jump, I havent looked back since. Great job to DJH, cause your hard work is truely appreciated.
Anyway, while accessorizing Aeon with some great backdrops, I noticed some of my favorite bands were missing. So I took this opportunity to contribute a little bit, and be able to feature some of my favorite music while doing so. I have been experimenting a little with making some backdrops, so I figured Id share them with you. Nothing special, just did some quick photoshopping to some google images, and wham, some fresh backdrops. There are some repeated originals, with different effects, such as black and white, or zoomed, so sorry for the repeats, but just choose whatever you like. Like I said, I just started, so my collection is very limited for the time being. Also, I uploaded the 1080 jpg, but I also have copies of 720 bmps, so just pm me if interested.

The Photeon backdrops (http://www.teirney.net/blog/2008/05/21/photeon-backdrops-for-xbmc-aeon-skin-released/) I put together for the Aeon skin contain generic backdrops for each of the categories, eg. camera for Photos, headphones for Music, film wheels for Movies etc.
I'll be adding some new categories and tweaking the existing photos so they are more consistent in the coming weeks.
