I made a dvd with four .avi movies on it and I heard Xbox Media Center can play them. But I've tried and can't figure out how to do it. I wen to programs and chose the dvd drive, then the 4 movies show up but when i press start on them, I cant choose to play it. What do I do?

Actually, it doesn't even show the files in it. When I click on the dvd drive, it shows nothing.

Well there are a few possibilities. I'll start with the most likely.

1. Your using a stock xbox drive and it doesnt like the media. I have 2 and one will play/see them and the other wont *shrugs*

2. Your burning in the wrong format (tried UDF?) or not closing the disc.

I have a Thomson DVD drive and it plays everything but CD-Rs just fine. This was the first time a dvd didnt work in it. The disc is finalized as well.

Thompson is very picky with DVD meida. Try another brand. I believe Verbatim or Traxdata is good and burn at 1x speed, that often gives the extra precision needed

My Avalaunch recognizes that there are indeed 4 avi files on the disc, I just don't know how to play them

A few suggestions...

It may be your xbox DVD player wont read your type media. Some DVD players in the xbox read better then others. Try diffrent media (like dvd- instead of +).

To find out which DVD player your Xbox has: http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-121.html

How did you burn it?
Look here:http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Appendix_B:_Troubleshooting
Toward the end under limitations. "Workaround: Burn all your CD/DVD-media in ISO 9660 format which is the largest is standard anyway, (though ISO9660 has a 2GB file-size limitation that there is no workaround for). "

Try burning at a slower speed.

You can also just ftp the files to the xbox HD and play them from there.

You could also put the files on your computer in a shared folder and play them over the network.

Or if you dont want to copy the files to your computer you could share your computer's DVD drive and play the files over the network.

As he said. The 'My Programs' section will only show xbe files. You need to go to either files view (My Files, Filemanager) or My Videos to be able to play them.

Ok, if I see them there. Do I just press A? Is there any way to have the disc automatically load and start playing
