i just wanted to get a feel for what everyone is using and why. *i've tried most of the dashes and like features from alot of them and cant seem to land on a perfect solution. *so let me know what you think!
wooo i get first vote ??? . anyway i use evox simply because it does the job for me. it's not even the latest version. but i modded my xbox waaaaay back when the scene started and after modding it to bits i really *don't* want to screw with it any more. it works, and does everything i need it to do.
i have been eyeing out the modded ms xboxdash-style dashes and they look very cool indeed. one day when they are mature and foolproof i might give them a try just for geek value. no more experimenting for me.
xbmc as a dash rocks hard. i use the xbox mostly for media and so that's the obvious choice...
i'm very happy with it.
avalaunch is a great dash too. it is 50 times better than evolutionx anyway.
xbmc as my dash, but ava when i need anything that xbmc doesn't provide (xbe title editing, ftp client, xbox2xbox transfer...)

i use xselector or something as the first thing it loads. i have set a root password, then a button launches xbmc, b launches evox, x launches gba, y launches n64, and up down left right open things like boxplorer, phxhddloader, an dvd2xbox, :d unleashx loads if no button is pressed at time of boot, (still requires password)
when i realized 9 out 0f 10 times that i turn my xbox on, it was to play vids or music, xbmc as a dash became a neccesity.
xbmp (yep p not c). waiting for final gold 1.0 of xbmc then will move across to it.

xbmp (yep p not c). waiting for final gold 1.0 of xbmc then will move across to it.what do you mean? :shifty: xbmc already went 1.0.0 gold/final on 29th of june 2004, that is the finalized version. the feature freeze is over and we started adding new functions, (there won't be any more official xbmc 1.0.x releases. the next version will be 1.1 or maybe even 2.0).
ps! xbmp (p not c) has been offcialy discontined and is no longer supported at all. upgrade to xbmc now or stay lost in the past ;)

i thought i'd ask this as a few of us seem to not be able to boot straight to xbmc in the later versions and it may be worth the good guys here who program it knowing if its a priority or not.

also could you add your current version to the replies and modchip (if you know it)?
thanks,
max.

hi,
just like you, i usually use xbmc as my dashboard, but that hasn't worked lately. i use 11-18-04. modchip is matrix and i boot from c:\xbmc.xbe.
(starting xbmc from f:\apps\xbmc through evox works fine though).

yes.
i have an x2 lite which boots xselect.xbe, which runs c:\xbmc.xbe. the rest of the stuff is located in f:\xbmc. i've never had a problem running as a main dash this way, but in the last several cvs builds the boot up time has more than doubled. not sure if this is the same on everyone's or just because of my setup.
hi!!!
i have xbmc 11-15-2004 set as a dashboard on my xbox softmodded by myself through 007 gamesave exploit + fonts hack + pbl lite
xbmc rulez!!!!!! :kickass:
havent seen any indication this is broken? i update daily and i use xbmc as dash. i labeled it evoxdash.xbe and i got a xecuter bios

okay, well i got the boot problem sorted but it took some drastic action.
i deleted everything from the c drive of my xbox and restored from a backup i made of my xbox before i installed anything on it, then i uploaded version "xbmc xbox media center 1.1.0 2004-11-19 [y]" and its working and booting hapily *:d
now thats just what i did and i take no responsability for anyone else that tries this!
whatever you do don't do this unless you have a known good backup!!
boots like a charm :)
using x2 pro (set to evoxdash.xbe atm. )

i usually tsop xboxes with x2 4981 bios. i've changed to bios to boot from f:/apps/xbmc/default.xbe, so i don't have to copy the xbe and xml to c:/

i actually hadn't thought of having the bios boot right to the f:\apps\xbmc-folder...good tip! so i changed the bios (and nothing else) and voila, xbmc boots with no problems. so i guess for my setup at least, only c-boot is broken. doesn't matter though. thanks!
