Sorry, can't seem to be able to edit previous posts.. am i seeing the same exact thing as above when full screen viz is off, with full screen viz ON, the home screen moves the menu mar to the bottom as usual and shows the album info but the viz area on the top remains black. I tried deleting user settings, then everything, then reuploading both xbmc and Aeon from scratch; but no suscess. As i can gather, 9a brings this issue, i have the last T3CH svn build and experience this. For now i have turned off visualizations completely.

Thanks for the great job so far and here's to alpha10 :)

I think what you're looking for is found under the settings (up arrow) then go into AEON and select HOME SHORTCUTS, in there, you can set "targets" for the various section. If you name a target the same a source you have added on that view they will open by default next time. Say in tv shows you have a folder named series, then change the target to "series", next time you go under tv shows if won't show the source list but go directly into the "series" folder and display it remembering the last view settings used.

Haven't figured out anything yet about the visualizations.. i think it's just a 9a issue and we'll have to wait until the next update.

Secondly, there are now over a hundred 1080p (1920x1080) backdrops ready to go while Aeon itself renders many of its textures natively at 1080p. That means you'll have correct definition (i.e. no upscaling) at whichever other resolution your TV supports, be it 720p or 1080i. More on all of this tomorrow.

Hi djh, where would I adjust the delay for the cycling of the background images? I do like that it changes but would like to have it do it much less frequently if possible. Also, you may want to change the link on your site to this thread. It points to the old XBMC address so even though it will bring you here you can't login from it.

Well, some small bug report.
It doesn't work well with swedish language.
Å, Ä and Ö doesn't show up as they should, and texts don't fint into the boxes.
Some swedish guy should look into that part and try to come up with a solution/good translations. Bet there's similar problems for other languages.

There's no "browse"-button for entering paths. A bit annoying to type in the whole network path to some source instead of just browsing to it.

As for 1080p backdrops, I haven't had a chance to do the whole uploading thing yet - it's quite a mission. They'll be distributed as PNG images due to the size, though I'd recommend converting them to BMP if you want faster transitions. They're over 5mb each!

Basically I dont like the menu (sort by, library etc.) so easily accessable. I would rather a dedicated button such as 'menu' brought this up. I would rather be able to scroll in all four directions (up/down/left/right). Though I know this causes problems when reaching the sides. Maybe it could go to the other side of the next/previous row..

Similarly, on the home screen I'd rather a dedicated button (menu again maybe) brought up the settings menu.

As I have said before Djh, dont take this as criticism, I am extremely appreciative of what you have created and if you dont agree dont take it onboard, I'm just trying to share my thoughts on how I think it should be... foolproof to the max.

Anyway, keep up the good work. I cant wait for the 1080p textures and backdrops.

Any progress on specifying which tab on the Home screen Aeon defaults to?

i.e. I'd like to default to Weather, which Aeon does if I have 4 items enabled (TV Shows, Movies, Music, and Weather). But if I have any more or less enabled (I'd like Games and occasionally Adult) it defaults to different tabs.

Also, if I'm currently in Movies then go back to Home, it goes back to the default tab, rather than having the Movies tab highlighted. A known issue, I believe. Just curious whether a fix was coming.

On a slightly different note, Aeon exposes one inefficient aspect of xbmc's library databases. In PMIII, I have 3 different sources (TV Shows, Movies, Adult) all stored in the MyVideos34.db file, which is now around 3MB. So, as you may expect, opening TV Shows, Movies, or Adult tabs in Library mode takes a long time (so does scraping/updating the library, cleaning library, changing thumbs, etc.)

So individual database files for each source seems like it would be more efficient, right? Sorry if this is too off-topic or discussed elsewhere - I just thought of it as I was typing the original question.

Hello everyone!
Just found this skin like a week ago and loving everything about it, from the backdrops choices, to the view mod that was just add.
Just have a couple of questions. Should I download this skin from the First post in this thread or from the web site? I'm using the newest build of XBMC 02-24 and using this skin off the website and having trouble playing some of my videos on my Xbox HD and some ISO on my home PC. My xbox just keep freezing up. Is anyone else experiencing or was experiencing this. My videos play fine with PMIII and Xtv so I think it's the skin. Ive even deleted my whole XBMC folder and stated off will a fresh copy and no luck. Any help/ tips would really help.

I'm having a similar(?) error.
Sometimes when I play a video, the bottom of the screen shows 'Now playing "" ' and 'Form the Album "" ' as if it's trying to play music.

Only happens with Aeon, and intermittently. Only way to fix it is to restart or switch skins.

I'll run it in debug next time and post a log if it happens again.

The video progress bar and the time remaining is not showing up when FF/RW or "jumping" (using the directional pad). The FF speed does show (2x, 8x, etc)Is this a bug or did you purposefully remove it? It was VERY useful trying when trying to figure out where you were in the movie and getting back to it.

@ Affini: i didn't think that aeon ever had a working progress bar? I guess i'm probably wrong, but I can't remember it ever being completed.

@ sickboy and Kautious: I'm pretty sure it's just the skin using up too much memory. someone can probably confirm this though. I have a 128 mb xbox and i don't think it makes any difference, I run out of memory too and have to restart my xbox periodically. although every time I check it always says I have like 84mb of memory available, so maybe its a cpu issue...

I'm running at 720p and i get the same issues. but ya 1080i has always been a little less stable for me, even in other skins.

XBMC has never been able to run a 1080i res very well on XBOX hardware... not sure why since the games ran OK at 1080i but I just use 720p and it works great. I run videos at 1080i and that is fine, just the console has issues at 1080i from what I can tell.

I had an idea that is was memory but like you said every time I go to look I have like 28-32 mb left. I run the skin at 720p, with the rest of the skins I use 1080i is too choppy except AEON. Navigating through the menus is fine untill I start to play a video off the hard drive, streaming video off the PC is fine too (weird). I have a Caller id script runing in the background I'll try and turn that off and see if that helps

For what it's worth, I never had any performance issues on Xbox hardware. I was only running MP3, XVID and DVD ISO/VOB media, though, all over SMB.

I can confirm the same thing. SMB + 720p + Aeon = Smooth.. :grin:

SMB share to 3 xbox. 2 wireless and 1 wired. mostly running the same time.

when im in Aeon adn i select power to power it down XBMC fades to black but then it keeps the window open and im locked out. This is for Linux version. the same thing occurs if say im in Aeon and i go to switch a skin, itll fade to black and get stuck.

has anyone else come across this issue. it also happened with OSXBMC aswell.

My issue is that the font shows up as varying width rectangles. When I loaded the skin for the very first time the font was too wide and all of a sudden after changing screens the font changed to the aforementioned blocks. I am attempting to use this skin with the osxbmc version which I think is similar to the Linux version.

Any ideas what a possible fix may be?

Its been addressed in the new build of OSXMBC, still not 100% fixed but it no longer caused the lock out.

1280x1024 would be classed by xbmc as a 4x3 display mode (internally) AEON dosn't support it last time I checked

I'm back to work skinning, getting a few bugs fixed and adding some new stuff. I wanted to add a default icon for audio so there are no gaps in the coverflow view i created but adding an image to /media/ does not do the trick. A chat with agathorn informed me that images in the media folder no longer override textures.xpr. So it looks like I am going to be rebuilding the xpr. I grabbed all the psd's you have on the site but a quick glance in there looks like the package might not be complete? I didn't notice a back arrow for example. Am I wrong? Is that all of the images? If not is there anyway you would be willing to make these available to me? I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers and thanks again!

If this is the wrong place to ask this question then I apologize. Is anyone having any trouble with selecting Aeon backdrops in OSX? When I choose the directory where my backdrops are XMBC crashes as it tries to generate the backdrop thumbnails. Once it generates all the thumbnails it stops crashing and lets me select one.

Again, I apologize if this is not the place for this questions. Thanks. I'd be happy to post a log if anyone is interested.

I'm not sure if this has been covered before, I can't slog through all 100 pages of this thread so please forgive me if it has: on the OSX version of XBMC in the file and library views i think the black and white backgrounds are switched. Under the black filenames is the black background and to the right is the white textured background. It makes navigating by file name very difficult until you highlight the file that you want.

Is there a fix for this? Thank you and good work to the skinners, looking forward to future releases.

Version: XBMC-0.1.7 for MAC
Skin:AEON Alpha9a
Computer: Macbook, 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, MacOSX 10.5.2
Screen resolution: 1280x800 (on the mac), 1024x768 (on the fat TV)

Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't know if this is an issue for the "XBMC for MAC"-crew to solve or if it is something specific for the skin. But I have posted before on the OSXBMC-forum but I haven't got any respons. But I know for sure that I'm not alone with this problem. Have found at least three other postings about it on different forums.

I discovered this skin a couple days ago (I'm on an Xbox1) and have been obsessively making icons and backdrops for everything :-) I've only got a couple real issues, most of which I'm guessing have been brought up in the last 132 pages, but I can't read everything, so here goes:

- I've edited my sources.xml file, but Aeon doesn't pick things up until I "add source" in each section.
- When I press the "B" button in a section, rather than returning to the Home screen, I get something akin to a filemanager window. It's not the end of the world, but I don't see a purpose for this given the way the skin is laid out.
- If I add thumbs, they only work for one view (IE, icons, posters, etc), and are squashed or stretched in others. Is there a way to add multiple formats for thumbs, or another solution?

You're not alone, i have exactly the same problem on my Mac Mini connected to a HD Ready TV.
But on my MacBook Pro, with a resolution of 1440 x 900, everything is fine. I lowered the resolution of my MBP and everything stay correct.
Maybe a problem with the GMA950 of the Mini and Macbooks ?

I am having the same problem with my Mac Mini but not on my iMac so my guess is that it's a problem with the GMA950. Anybody tried running XBMC for Linux on a Mac Mini/GMA950?

Meanwhile, can someone please explain to me the concept of the Library vs. Sources? IE, I have Sources which point to specific folders that my content is in. What is the point of the Library, and how does it differ from using specific Sources? Is there a way to automatically download thumbs for items via the library, and if so, will it store them in multiple (poster, icone, etc) formats?

...and did I miss this info somewhere in a readme or faq?

This has nothing to do with this skin, so why post here??

the video library mode uses a scraper the download images and info about your media and adds it to a database allowing you to sort movies by year, genre, actor etc.

Go look at the online manual which is NOT HARD TO FIND.

Great news Djh,

I would love to see you set up a trac on your website in order to organise the development. That way we would list the remaining bugs and unskinned sections and hopefully get closer to a first release. Having a trac would help rand al thor and other skinners to contribute their work. You might be able to allow them to create seperate svn branches for their mods.

Just an idea. Keep up the good work.

So I got bored and did the new OSD myself in the end. A few words about this, first of all. The things I wanted the OSD to be were simple, unobtrusive, functional and convenient. Moreover, it had to withstand the different aspect ratios of movies etc - I didn't want the background lost against black borders - which suggested doing something central rather than flush against the top or bottom. Add all that together and you get the following. It's not finished, so you'll have to excuse the placeholder arrows and progress bar. There'll be some extra text going in as well.

I am making headway with the 1080p stuff - the occasional texture upgrade here and there. One big problem is that the glass texture for the media views will fly past the texture limitations of certain video cards when it gets upgraded. Theoretically, it's reached that point already.

The skin actually uses very few textures, so the jump to 1080p is as much an issue of backdrops as anything. Those are going up now and will be available from this afternoon/evening. There aren't as many as there were for 720p, for obvious reasons, but they'll be updated constantly. I've gone for a higher bar of quality this time, not just in terms of resolution.

Once that (and an impending torrent of real-life work) are done, I'll be moving all the skin XML into 720p and 1080i folders, and editing them accordingly. So you'll be less reliant on automatic resizing, resulting in a more precise overall look.

The main thing with mods at present is getting them on the website. I have the page ready but it's stuck on my laptop, the power adapter for which is b0rked. I've also made a few slight cosmetic changes to the skin - bits of polish here and there. I've started keeping a changelog, finally, so you can keep up with things as the changes become more specific. There are a number of smaller changes and customisation options already in there.

New release? Very soon.

I must say that while I'll be downloading all the 1080p backdrops and using them the 720p ones look good enough in most cases when displayed in 1080p. Personally for me, the biggest difference would be the sorting of the 720p/1080i sizing I think as this at the moment is spoiling the fit and finish of the skin.

Still, more than happy with any and all improvements you make :laugh:

Actually, looking at those screens, the entire problem seems to be that the glass texture isn't sliding, or indeed spawning in the correct place. It's supposed to stretch out to the left and right while resting somewhere in the middle. In your case, though, it's resting at the far left. Clearly, there's something up with the way your XBMC or hardware is dealing with that.

I was warned a while back that the glass texture for that screen was too large for the texture capacities of some video cards - maybe that's the problem. I might try upgrading that panel to 1080p tonight and splitting it in two, then having the two halves move in sync. Might work.

Anyone else got a theory on this?

I think the problems you are seeing are caused by the inbuilt graphics card of the macbook you are using. I'm not seeing those issues using OSXMBC on a Hackintosh with a nVidia 8600GT.

I have had a look through the settings and sure I saw a reference to being able to hide the artwork for a .. folder? I can't seem to find it now though so maybe I was mistaken? I have a fair few subfolders in my collection and use a folder.jpg image but when you are in the fodler it has a grey blank image where you can go back, is there anyway of hiding this?

Can't get the XBMC on my desktop to output 1080p, but I've upgraded most of the textures and rewritten much of the XML for the HD folders. You'll just have to take my word for it that these look just the same in 1080p - no upscaling at all.

G'day,

I just installed this skin on my Xbox and it looks beaut.

But I am having an issue with the backgrounds that are displayed on the home page. Dunno if this is a known bug (the first post lists "background changer bugs" so maybe this is old news).

The default images display fine, but if I set a different image or an image folder, then half the time the image won't display. The background will be black.

For example, I go the Settings menu and change the default movie background image (I am only using images downloaded from aeonismine.com at the moment). Once selected, a thumbnail of that image is displayed on the settings page, and when I go back to the home menu that image is shown in the background when I select "Movies". Huzzah.

But if I make other changes (such as setting a different background images for "Pictures"), then the background image for "Movies" sometimes disappears. When I go back to "Settings", there's no thumbnail displayed, either.

Similarly for folders: if I set a folder for "Movies", then it seems that half the time no background image is shown. I wait for a while just in case the loading is slow, but nothing is shown.

This happens for "TV Shows", "Pictures", etc as well. In the end I have to go back to using the default settings to guarantee that a background image will be displayed on the home page. It seems that any changes can result in no background image displayed at all.

I am using Xbox @ 720P, latest T3CH release, latest Aeon binary, on a 720P display.

Sounds to me like your runnign out of memory. You can enable debug mode to see for sure, but Aeon is VERY memory hungry and tbh doesn't really work on an xbox which is a shame. At least not in 720p. It will work in SD widescreen.

I'd take issue with that, actually. I was running/testing on Xbox for months before moving to Linux and have done numerous installs for other people. None has had a problem with backgrounds changing or anything else.

I do not have a thumbnail cache entry in advancedsettings.xml file. I have changed the cache settings, however -- do these need adjusting downwards?

My Xbox has stock amount of RAM, so maybe it is memory related: debug shows there is generally about 33Mb free from 64Mb installed.

I did notice the following:

- when a default background image is displayed, free memory drops to 32Mb
- when a non-default background image is displayed, free memory drops to 20Mb
- when a background image fails to display, free memory goes up to 36Mb.

Although I did notice a lot of debug messages, such as:

So now that I have my home page working correctly, it's on to the lower-level stuff ...

I like the photo wall view, but are there options for how it is displayed?

Currently it seems to be arranged in columns of 5 icons, progressing towards the right of the screen. But on my 720p display, only 3 and a half icons are visible vertically, so if there are a limited number of icons then they are bunched on the left hand side and some are not visible. It seems odd to have to scroll down to see an icon when there is all that unused screen space to the right. Restricting the number of icons per column to 3, or changing the layout to rows rather than columns, would be much nicer.

Similarly with poster view. The posters are sorted into columns of 4, but only 2 and a half are visible on my screen. Again, I'd prefer a horizontal layout if possible here.

So are there options for this? Or will adjusting thumbnail size produce a better layout? Or maybe this is an XBMC limitation?

Well, the display of small numbers of icons has always been the drawback of those Wall views - they were always a bit of a fudge. The iconpanel control doesn't really allow for anything better, which is why I only ever use the Wall view when I have enough icons to fill it. I set my Views to display either Poster (for videos) or Roller (for music) by default, and make sure the remember views for folders option is on. Then I can dictate which specific folders should use the Wall and ensure that nothing else does.

This might come in handy for some: mogrify (part of ImageMagick) is an excellent tool for resizing an image from the command line.

$ apt-get install imagemagick
$ mogrify -resize 1280x720 <image>

so to convert all of them, just do something like this:

$ cd /path/to/images/
$ for image in *.jpg; do mogrify -resize 1280x720 $image; done

I have a script automatically resize my thumbnails to 200x300 to reduce load time on the trusted old xbox. With the higher resolution posters available with newer scrapers, xbmc on the xbox was getting slow...

Total noob here, but was messing around with this skin last night, and moving the main scroll bar on the home screen down lower on the screen. I got the text, the glass bar image, the focus image, all to move down. However there is one diffused black line that was right at the bottom of the scroll bar and I can't find it anywhere to move it down. I spent like two hours trying to figure this one out. Any help?

The wierdest part, when I looked at it on my PC it wasn't there, when I transfered the skin to my xbox, it was there. Anyway love the skin!

For those asking about a new release, I'm afraid it'll be at least another week. In fact, it probably will be a week. If it's any consolation, the list of updates is looking quite healthy:

- new OSD w/ bookmarks
- enter/exit animations for Music Visualisation info (to stop burn-in)
- Trailer menu options in Games and Movies, switching neatly to a Game Trailer or Movie Trailer window with appropriate backdrops, bookmark links etc.
- Same as above for Music / Music Videos
- 1080p textures, downscaling to all HD resolutions
- 720p folder to replace PAL/PAL16X9 (higher precision overall, fewer misalignments)
- fix (fingers crossed) for OSX issue with media glass texture
- option to reroute Arcade to MyScripts (with appropriate backdrops, title etc) to allow Linux users to start emulators via python shortcuts
- Comics option for main menu (just goes to a different Pictures bookmark, with new title/backdrops, making use of XBMC's cbr/cbz support)
- erm... other stuff

I'm also thinking about stripping out the default backdrops for the time being, dramatically reducing the skin size overall.

IMDB problems - Hi guys I'm running AEON on the latest build for XBMC on linux. When I use the default PM III skin, IMDB info etc is all retrieved well. With AEON all I am able to retrieve are the thumbs (for that also the change/thumb buttons are appearing on a menu and is confusing). Any idea what the issue could be?

With all the backgrounds I am collecting, having the home page menu bar in the middle of the screen is becoming an issue. Right across the middle just happens to obscure some important feature.

I seem to recall fiddling with some setting and the menu bar dropped to the bottom of the screen. I think it was Aeon, but I can't recall how I did it.

So ... is there such an option, or do I need to modify some xml to move the menu bar?

The menu does drop in the event of a video running while the visualisation option's selected; I can't imagine making it a permanent option would do any harm. I'll take a look.

A word of warning, btw. The next release will almost certainly not feature PAL and PAL16X9 folders, and if it does they'll be old ones. All my effort's gone into the 720p folder this time, which I believe refers to 1080i and 1080p as well. Or at least it does in Linux.

As for the emulation stuff, it's a Linux thing. That's actually the Scripts folder dressed up as an Arcade section, with python shortcuts to individual emulated games. So each one triggers a command line, basically, that launches whichever emulator with whichever game. Works a treat but for a current fullscreen bug in Linux XBMC - hopefully just a short-term thing. As for Xbox, I think you're stuck with the usual emulator links there.

All the Movie / Game Trailer stuff is in, btw. Works great, especially with the remember view option on.

I think you are right on the xbox and emulator issue. It would take a recompiling of the emulators to create programs that accept command lines like so many of the pc versions do. Its kind of a shame but soon most will move away from xbox as their htpc. I'm interested in seeing what it would take for a wireless setup for games that are more highend and having that integrated in to the xbmc as a launching point.

Ie. your arcade idea but with modern games.

All of the Xport emulators allow a parameter for the rom path. I've used this along with a perl script to generate shortcut files for all of my roms (entire NES, SNES, Genesis, Atari, and N64 sets plus some C64). The N64 emulators are the only ones that won't work this way.

Since I also have cover art for each rom, I put that info in the shortcut files as well. The result is a completely integrated emulation section of XBMC.

Yeah, if the menu bar is in the middle then the backdrop needs to be arranged just so.

I've seen some backdrops that you have changed to make them compatible with Aeon, and I've tried similar modifications, but some images I'd really love to use (mostly a face filling the frame) just can't be tweaked this way.

BTW I was looking at the backdrop page on aeonismine last night and there were lots of new images. But none were downloadable, and now the images are back to the old ones. I've seen this happen a few times now. Hopefully one day soon these new images will be permanently available?

That sure is pretty... I don't understand the 360 games or how the trailers got in there though although I know the apple trailer does download cover art and such. This will be really exciting if you have that integrated.

Trailers are part of some of the latest XBMC releases using PM3. They are only available if IMDB has been (I think), but an nfo file can point to a local file. If a trailer is available, it shows a button in the top r/h corner of the "movie info" screen.

I don't use one of the latest versions yet (been too busy to mod one to my requirements), but I have tested the feature. Works very well. Thanks to everyone involved for this feature.

djh_: Not sure if you are using it, but id 34 (actor image) in videoinfo is no longer supported in SVN.

Use container(50).listitem.icon instead.

A trailers bookmark for games and movies is AWESOME!!!! and looks fantastic djh. can't wait to try it out

I use the Clips bookmark for Music Videos (MTV), it could use one more view (ie; just like the Music library (Song - Artist - tbn image) - but as a user thanks for making it possible to edit the bookmarks and creating the skin in the first place.

Do you have to download each trailer and a trailer for the cover to have it look like in the screenshot?

Or can it be integrated, so that you can stream the trailers "live"?

I've never understood why trailers should be downloaded, I'd much rather stream them like in the Apple Movie Trailers script. Only problem is that script looks very bad, from a design pow, and doesn't blend in with the rest of AEON.

ok Im kind of new at this and researched some but want to double check this before I do it. I just downloaded the new build and extracted it. Now I have an Aeon folder and all i do is ftp it INTO the pm3 folder? I DON'T create a new folder in the skins folder for this, correct? Simply just ftp it into the pm3 folder and I'm good, right? thanks in advance! Just modded my xbox and found the full potential of this thing and I have to say thanks for this aeon bc it looks awesome and cant wait to try it!

pm3 is a skin, aeon is a skin. You don't put aeon inside pm3.

You upload the "Aeon" folder (assuming that contains the files such as skin.xml) into the Skins/ folder.

Your structure will thus be:

xbmc/skin/Project Mayhem III
xbmc/skin/Aeon

i second the option to have the menu appear on the lower portion of screen, so you can create backdrops to view easier. Kind of hard to make cool backdrops of TV shows and movies that you can only see a top sliver and bottom sliver of.

I'm having trouble with displaying backdrops. I've set the proper directories in the settings, and it finds my .bmp files as downloaded from aeonismine.com. However, back on the main menu, it does not display the backdrop for all of the media types as I scroll through them. It will display a backdrop for Movies but just a black screen for TV Shows. If I go into a menu and then back out again, it might show the backdrop for TV Shows this time but not for Movies. It seems random as to how and when it decides to show a backdrop, but always one or the other and never both. I have disabled all of the main menu options except for Movies and TV Shows.

Jayhawk, I found that by downscaling the default bmp to 720p that there were no hangups and no black screens. I used the windows applet resizer and it not only scaled it down from 1080 but changed it from 6megs to 2megs thus increasing the speed to a seamless pace.

I spent some time last weekend to translate parts of skin to german (because i still have a spare softmodded xbox around here that i wanted to give to my parents. they're not really that good with foreign languages^^)

i used textpad to search through all the .xml files in the PAL folder and replaced "MOVIES", "TV SHOWS", "GAMES" etc. inside the <label> tags with each's german word.

Works like a charme with one exception:
As soon as i replace all instances of "MOVIES" I loose the ability to see a background image, it's just black. I've tried it serveral times and startet from the beginning again to make sure I did nothing wrong but the same issue keeps appearing again.

Any hints?

Hey Nook,

I don't think that you can just overrite everything that has to do with the english tags like movies or pictures. I'm very sure that you won't find the menu in xml files. They must be in the compressed textures.xpr. I searched throw the net and didn't find a posibility to uncompress it to change the main-menu. But thats something that doesn't care me. I have some Issues with the 16x9 format. The time is just to big, so I can't read the time, just the date! The position and the size is false. Although the music part of xbmc with aeon has issues. when you blend in your options with the black key the menu appears but the text of the artist or titles doesn't slide to the right. mhh, i hope the skinner will fix these problems with the next release.

actually, the commonly used strings such as "Movies" and "Pictures" and "Weather" and stuff like that aren't part of the skin's strings.xml file, they're actually found in xbmc's strings.xml file

Hi!
Tnx for this great skin, i relly enjoy it and looking forward to the next release. Although this skin is optimzied for 720 or higher TV's I like too ask for a function that gives me the oppertunity to change skin from Aeon to PM3 if I move my xBox to an older TV or if I bring it to a friend or my parents. Is that possible? Because of the high resolution I recon that it will go just blank on an older TV making it impossible to change skin in XBMC the normal way.

I'm absolutely loving this skin, and resizing the wallpapers down to 720p has stopped the black screens and speeded it all up for me.

Only two things that are annoying me now ...

1. How about the option to view files as big icons? Seems to be missing.

2. I spent a long time getting all the album art together for my mp3 collection, and like to see it when playing music - both the album art and the track listing when in visualisation mode are far too small.

Apart from those minor gripes, this is the best skin for XBMC yet. Well done.

hey djh,

i love you skin and aeon is the most impressive and most beautfil skin ever made for the xbmc. I'm from germany and i want to translate the skin into german. I can change the lanuage of xbmc to german, but first the mutated vowels can't displayed. so i changed the font of the hole skin because the xephyr.ttf can't display them. so far so good, it works, but the main menu won't change to german...

and thats my problem. i can't find the xml where main menu is discribed. can anyone help me with my issue?

I've noticed a few things about the music section that could do with a tinker....

When you first enter, unless you have a pretty plain gray background the text is lost, especially the top choices (view:list etc). That whole section could do with being white text on a transparent dark background.

Also on the first page, the scroll list is on the right hand side for album covers, when there's no albums to be selected yet (just genres/artists/albums etc).

Next problem is the biggest of all - start a playlist up and all I get is a black screen with the current track in white text - all the other tracks must be in black text. It'd be nice to have a custom background on the playlist page.

I hope this doesn't come across as a negative whinge, just trying to help make this skin be the best it could be.

Got carried away when I saw the screenshots of the "Arcade" section and would like to have covers for my NES files too. Been searching the web for sites with high resolution ones but it's hard to find. Any tips? Or is it possible to download them all in a kit like with the backdrops somewhere?

Hi Guys,

Got the Aeon skin in XBMC ubuntu 7.10 works amazin, the problem is when you're in full 1080p mode I can't seem to shut down the xbmc session. All that happens is black screen when I select reboot, restart etc..

Please HELP. :shocked:

A word of warning, btw. The next release will almost certainly not feature PAL and PAL16X9 folders, and if it does they'll be old ones. All my effort's gone into the 720p folder this time, which I believe refers to 1080i and 1080p as well. Or at least it does in Linux.

Just click the back button of your browser and scroll a few lines down. you'll find a thread with the unofficial mods for aeon skin. there is linked the lastest mod ver. 2.1.

The problem is that only the front page links to the correct backdrops page.

Easiest thing is to download the 1920x1080 images, then convert them to 1280x720 images yourself using an image processing application such as irfanview.

I feel bad asking this question. I searched around and could not find the answer. I am using OSXBMC with this skin and it runs fine. The problem is I can't find setting.xml. I looked in the contents of the XBMC package in Applications with no luck.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, in a post I made in the linux users forum concerning a bug between Aeon and the newer linux builds, djh mentioned that he's tied up with a lot of actual work right now. So I'm betting that he's not able to spend a lot of time working on this project. I'm looking forward to a newer build too, but we're at the mercy of his actual life... ;)

First of all, I would like to say thank you for this terrific skin!!! I am deeply impressed and it works nicely!!!

Second, I would like to apologize for my rather basic question. I have heavily searched this forum and also read the manual, but didnt find the answer to it.

I do NOT like to use the "library function". Can I still display thumbnails and IMDB movie information within AEON; when selecting the "view list" function. Particularly, thumbmails would be nice.

You are correct, that view is designed as its name suggests, it's designed to show the file and not any icon... So you would have to change the skin itself... isn't there a list view in the aeon mod that shows the icons though? i think so, you should look into that.

i've had some success with that... what you do is scan in your library so you get thumbnails, as if you were going to use it

then once you can see your library is up and working, go to File mode, and then press one of the menu buttons to get like one of the submenus (can't remember which one it is). Then cancel the submenu, XBMC will refresh itself for that file, and you will have automatic thumbs in File mode! :laugh:

1. So in short, scan your library (you must do this)
2. Then go to File mode, select a movie and bring up a submenu (I'll give more detailed info when I get around to checking it out)
3. Cancel the submenu. XBMC tends to 'refresh' its listing of the file here, and detects the thumbnail stored when you ran the library scan.
4. Voila! Although it is a little harder to bring up IMDB info... i think that can also be done with another submenu... I'll look into that for you too.

Note the 'refreshing' of each movie to get the thumbnail has to be done manually for each movie, but once done, you're set :D

I also like the library features but find the info pane a bit 'big' for my liking, there was another view that had the info pane slide in when you paused on a movie, and had the option to 'pin' it so it stayed available if you wanted to browse through more carefully... alas that is gone, so we'll have to wait until djh puts aeon into svn to see some mods... understandably too many requests from like a million people must piss him off :nod:

Thanks for this advice. Indeed, I found a view in the Thor-mod that has something similar to what I am looking for. Were you refering to the Thor-mod? It works, but it zooms from a large thumb to a small thumb after some seconds to show the content. I might sound a little picky, but it would be prefered not to have it (as I dont use the library). The Thor-mod also appears to have some bugs with regards to the "TV shows"-part.

Bottom-line, the original one is still the best and I should live with it. It is an awesome skin!!!

I've been working on some abstract backdrop images for all of the different categories. I've put a single image inside a folder for each type, e.g. Movies, TV Shows, Pictures and configured the Aeon backdrop settings to use those folders.

The main menu works and looks great. However I have noticed some quirks.

1. When I choose Movies from the menu the image changes and shows the backdrop in the folder for Live TV rather than Movies.
2. When I choose a setting from the Settings menu, e.g. Aeon, it reverts back to showing the XBox background rather than the photo in the backdrops folder for Settings.

Is this the expected behaviour? Perhaps I need to physically set the backdrop image as well as the folder???

Once I'm happy with the abstract images I'll create a blog post so others can use if they want.

I am also using the mod which works well for me,not too keen on the original backgrounds so am really hoping that permission is given to release the backdrops from dteirney.
One issue I have is that when in Livetv screen on my linux box with 1080 monitor the background is quite opaque and the channel info text stands out very well but when running on xbox with 720p TV the background is much less opaque and the channel info text is much harder to read.

Rand. I was using AEON with your mod. I have only stopped because of the frequent buffering during playback. Hopefully elepus will sort that out and make it usable. One problem I had with the skin was that navigating in any of the video menus (movies, tv shows, live tv) changed them all. For example, I want to go to Watch TV>Live Channels when I press Live TV and Watch TV> Recordings when I press TV Shows and to my SMB videos directory when I press Videos. Unfortunately when I change one it changes them all. Is there a way to save the setting/directory for each button?
?? What? I have a custom folder set for each TV Shows, Movies, Clips, Live TV and they all work fine and individually if that is what you are talking about. If you mean a different folder for recordings, guide, watchtv ... it just wasn't set up to work like that but could probably be done so.

I just installed the latest version avail. on the AEON site on my Mac Mini..

Everything looks ok, except the main menu bar that runs across the middle.. the text displayed there is unreadable, just a bunch of different sized boxes - like the font is wrong or something.

I am running it on a 52inch LCD at 1080p.

Would *almost* be willing to bet it is due to some conflicting settings in guisettings.xml. My mod changes quite a few things from the original so you should go through and erase all cached settings in guisettings.xml don't just hit the reset settings button.

The aeonmod seems to be working great with the myth:// protocol and Aeon skin.

I've had some problems with the playback freezing completely when fast forwarding but other than that it's great - I'm hoping the latest XBMC release resolves that.

There is the strange problem with the backdrop for Live TV appearing when I select Movies. Not sure if that is a problem caused by the mod or something in the original Aeon skin.

I've had 4 of the original photo authors give permission to redistribute the images so hopefully the rest will reply soon and then I can send out the backdrop set.

glad it is working for you now. Just so you know if you open guisettings.xml in a text editor and scroll to the very bottom you will see a bunch of lines saying "setting type "bool" etc and it will have the names of different skins in the line. I always go through and erase all those lines every time i do something new with a skin. Might be overkill but it works for me.

The menu transitions seemed a bit slow so I searched this thread to see if anyone else had found the same. There was a post that mentioned changing all instances of <timeperimage> but I found that changing <fadetime> instead worked.

Not entirely sure why, but setting <fadetime> to 750 rather than 2000 seems to move the menus much faster.

Find and replace all instances of <fadetime>2000</fadetime> to <fadetime>750</fadetime> in the Backgrounds.xml file in the PAL folder if you want the menu transitions to be faster.

I've just installed the skin and think it is by far the bes skin i have used. I am having a few issues with the backdrops though. All the 1080 backdrops i downloaded from the aeon site don't seem to work?? I tried shrinking them to 1280x720 and some seemed to work and others didn't am i doing something wrong here?? Also the backdrop for my "TV Shows" is permanantly f__ked its just black, no matter what i set it to. ? When i go to the settings for the backdrop it says theres a picture set, but it just doesn't apper... any suggestions??

Umm, yes. If you go to aeon settings you get to specify what each button links to. Make all the shares you want into sources and put the source name in where it asks what each button should link to. I don't want to clutter up this thread anymore with mod talk. From now on post in the old thread if you have questions.

Hey guys,

Im having trouble playing any video from a network share using the AEON skin, it seems to start and then end straight away, or freeze and have to be restarted. When i switch to PMIII all is fine. I also have the osx version of xbmc with the AEON skin and seems fine there with video playback, do you guys have any suggestions?

Hi,
Same prob. for me. Some vidz are not playable under Aeon skin. The same are ok with PM3 ?! Strange???

Sadly, this project is dead. But at least it showed us what can be done using the great XBMC framework. Thanks to all participants.

because the graphics in AEON are so big your running out of memory after loading them on the xbox

If you'd bothered to check back a few pages you'd have seen this -

The next gap in my work schedule's gonna be in about a fortnight, maybe less. I'm hoping to dedicate that time to getting the skin ready for a release, so apologies for the delay, but you don't have too long to wait...

hmmm i wonder how this problem will be overcome on the xbox, or if it ever will be?

You could try resizing them so they're smaller.

Maybe 960x540?

I assume you are referring to the background images, suppose i could give that go.

So is this an accepted problem with playing video from a network share using aeon on the xbox?? or is it just me experiencing this??

if it is just me, i would be great to know how people have things set up so i can possible overcome this problem.

I'm having the same problem with my xbox freezing because of memory.
Before I had resized all of my backdrop down from 1080p to 720p and my movies icons to 192kb, it was working real good until I stared adding more TV shows and movies to my library. Most of my movies and TV shows are on my PC.
Now when I search through my movies it freezes.
So now I'm going to try Hitcher idea and resize my backdrops to 960x540. With this new release coming out I dont think its going to run with it's full potential on the xbox???
