How about asking someone who's actually in a position to answer?
Sorry I just assumed that since you built the skin, you were the person to ask. Secondly you stated your movies were over SMB as well which is why I can see people thinking you would have the answer.

This week's update sees perhaps the biggest change to the way Aeon works since... well, since forever. The entire left/right slide system for context menus and information screens is being ditched, to be replaced by a more traditional popup layer that'll be consistent across the entire skin, forming the basis of context menus, file browsers and information screens.
The advantages:
- it looks nice whereas the old system did not
- no more menu issues for any view type
- no need for OSX compatibility mode
- a more robust feel to the skin overall
- slimmer code
So this weekend you'll get a fully functioning menu system, including the right-click shutdown menu.

DJH, great idea to put those Aeon specific skin options in the Home shutdown menu. That is, switching home menu position and toggle live tutorials. Can I suggest though, that personally I would get more value out of a "toggle RSS" option rather than toggle tutorials.
I had tutorials turned on for a while, and then once I was profficient enough with the skin I turned them off. Can't see any reason why I would turn them back on again. But I would toggle on the RSS feeds every now and again if I want to occassionally check up on my latest torrent feed.

Are you able to put the "Delete" option at the top above "Queue Item"?
We use "Delete" quite frequently when deleting MythTV recordings after watching them and it's currently way down in the 5th position in the list - that's a lot of pressing Down each night.

But I can't find any information on how to do this (from the readme.txt)
In addition to these default names, you can specify your own in the

So, what I want is to specify a new name "Audio books". What should I add in the sources.xml and how can I specify it in the Home Shortcuts menu?
i can confirm that movie fanart works with the windows build when the files are stored locally but i cant confirm if it works over smb but i am in the process of moving all my movies to my new NAS so i will report when iv finished and rescaned library.
XBOX does not display with me either, may be some kind of memory issue. we need to report this elseware in the appropriate thread so please give your support and let the developer know.

Although it's not an Aeon issue but yeah it would be better posting there. I can get fanart to work for tv shows over smb just not movies on the xbox.
djh, any chance you could put labels on those pop-up menus to make them slightly more user-friendly? For example...

Another option would be to make it work like the Xbox360's new guide, which functions with tabs to make it more intuitive. I'm sure you've seen the whole video, but take a look at the 4:04 mark for what I'm talking about:

edit: Just saw the label in the upper right as I was clicking off the thread. It'd be more intuitive on the actual menu, but leaving it as you have it is fine as well. :)

Amazing job you just keep teasing us and I love it... I have already switch 3 xboxs over to your skin and I have a buddy coming to see it to decide if he wants to move his stuff over also... I must say this is hands down one of the best skins i have seen / used for the xbox

Hi,
I'm running version 11c on Xbox.
I've done everything to reduce the memory usage (including reducing backdrop to 960x540) but still have following problem:
I don't know if this is a coincidence but:
- Movies start without problem
- tv shows with only one season start without problem.
-Tv shows with more than on season doesn't start. The xbox crash when i press play.
I wonder if the cause is due to the fact that for more than one season we go through 3 views (tv show - seasons - episode) while only 2 views with single season.
Does other people have same issue ?
Is there a way to reduce memory consumption going through multiple views ?
I hope this make sense....

Just a hunch...toggle your setting (if on, turn off/ if off, turn on) for "flatten TV Show if only one season" and see if anything changes.

My guess would be that you have somehow turned off stacking and these are all the videos in 2 parts.

djh any chance of creating some alternate font colors like pm3 as i think this skin would look alot classier with blue text rather than the vivid green pictured in your screen shots and blue or red goes better with the leds on the front of my xbox
I'm quite colourblind, so no. That's why Aeon uses mainly neutral colours, I'm afraid. I was hoping someone else would step up and offer some tasteful new colour schemes, tbh. I suppose I'd need to get that PSD pack out first, mind.

And here's the realtime version. In case you're wondering about the conspicuous gaps at the bottom of this and the Showcase info views, they're for the (hopefully) inevitable media flags for things like DTS and 720p.
I've also redone the glass for video views - it was way too transparent on the left hand side before.

DJH, just wondering whether it was possible (and if possible, whether it is something you have ever considered) to change the display of Movie Studio information to Actors, when hovering over a movie in showcase view or on the black info screen?
I was just thinking that when people are scrolling through a movie and are unsure what to watch, viewing information about a movie studio would not be something most people would care about, as opposed to who acted in it.

Completely understandable...there are a lot of skins on SVN which shouldn't seem any different than Aeon from a legal standpoint, but then we're all on our own when it comes to the law: it's everyone's own comfort level that we have to respect, since it's every man's own legal bill if something doesn't work out :-)

The doubles are probably from having 2 movie files in the directory, these could be multi-disk releases or the sample file. If its a multi-disk release (CD1, CD2, etc) then read the faq about "stacking"...otherwise just nuke the sample files out all your directories and you should be peach.

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be spelling mistakes between the 2 files or the format, eg teminator2-1.avi and terminator2-2.avi showed up as two diff films even though they were stacked.

Guess there's other languages with the same problems for their respektive letters, like the german/turkish ü.
I really love this skin - which makes it even more frustrating that I ran into a problem on my xbox, which makes me turn away from it:
every time I go into the Movies or TV Shows folder it takes a long time to actually show up the content (which is located on my computer) - it just sits there, displaying the "Please wait" message. After a while it will show up the content. When using pm3 as a skin, it's instantaneous. Even when not setting the source to my movies-folder, but an empty one, it takes quite some time. To make it even stranger: when accessing Comics I have no problem.

Bottom line is Aeon is a very nice skin that is really at the border of being too much for the xbox to handle in terms of memory and cpu usage.

Well, I never created an advancedsettings.xml, the backdrops were already reduced in resolution to avoid "blackouts" while moving from one home-links to another, and xbox-mode is also turned on. - Guess I'll have to stick to pm3 for the time being... :-(
The memory overhead should drop with the removal of the left/right scrolling panels. It'll be interesting to see if it helps on Xbox, though it won't have any effect on the front page.
It should DJH, i'll give it a check when the next build comes out...

what does TDL stand for? I just use (title) (CD) ... so using your example I would just do 88 minutes CD1.avi and 88 minutes CD2.avi and that has always worked for me.

RisenGryn, he simply trying to make a suggestion not demanding you do anything. The way he is suggestion works for pretty much anyone else without any editing of XML files. Works just fine for me and all 3 of my xbox's.
You can always use Bulk Rename Utility (http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php) to change them in no time.
I'm not sure here but it could be because you're using brackets in the file name instead of the usual seperators ( . _ - ).

do what i do and you'll have NO problems
but remember you NEED a STANDARDISED way of naming your movies... you can't get away with not renaming them, because even scene releases vary in their naming formats
i name my movies like this:
V for Vendetta (2007).avi
88 Minutes (2005).avi
My Fair Lady (1964).avi
and i've never had trouble with IMDB lookups
but you have to name them consistently. end of discussion. if you have more issues with this, ask in the general xbmc forum... this is a thread about a particular skin

my guess is that if you re arange your titles to
88 Minutes (TDL) (CD1)
88 Minutes (TDL) (CD2)
you may have better luck
i use the format

note no brachets and it works fine

I have the same problem. I get strange characters instead of Å, Ä and Ö. Also the main menu is in english (movies, music, ...).

Translated texts works in all skins (that I've tried) except Aeon. It seems to me that it is a Aeon bug.
Complete localisation is not yet supported. Don't expect a fix any time soon.

its font related.
i think info and browse dialogs would look nicer without a picture reflection.
btw .. i really like the old context style since its so much different than in other skins. would it be possible to keep the old one and let the user decide wich context layout to use?

Very nice. Will this also be used for banner/fan art selection per movie/series? It seems like such a simple and clean interface that it'd transfer very well.
For the record, I like the reflections on it. It adds a lot of depth.
Looks amazing DJH, hope we'll have a Filemanager very soon as well... keep up the hard work!

If this has been suggested already I apoligise, but I didn't see it when skimming the thread.
Wouldn't it be prudent to support storing the backgrounds in a pre-compressed texture format (s3tc / dxtc etc) and render those directly? Saves disk space, reduces memory / vram usage, reduces io etc.
Up to 8:1 (or 4:1 for the quality minded) compression for dxtc would definitely make using the background textures more feasible on the xbox.
I'm not sure that xbmc supports reading compressed textures directly, maybe this is something that needs implementing there first?

I don't know for sure but I think this skin is designed for use more on a media center pc rather than the xbox. xbmc's future is high def and the xbox wont do it. xbox support seems to be more of an after thought.

Just wondering but the old control type still appears in the background, will that be removed?
If you remove a view that's currently being displayed it'll empty its contents while leaving it "selected". If you then cycle view types it'll go away completely. No graceful way of handling that, unfortunately.
So if Showcase and Episode are the only two selected the pop up/down control bar will no longer be there meaning the focused item bug/glitch is gone?
Also (sorry for the questions - I know I should just wait until tomorrow) hiw is the new menu selected and can it be disabled?
Oh, I think the focused item glitch is a bit more persistent than that.
The "on-the-fly" options for wallpapers and viewtypes are accessed via the shutdown menu, which I'm using more as a multifunction context menu.
Great skin djh, is there a way to add an option to have the music info for the currently playing song pop up for a while everytime the song changes? I know this happens in the default skin, but not aeon. Just a suggestion.
