No idea why it's not working as of yet, I can get the current YouTube2 script to work with a build from 5/14/2007 but not with the latest build from 5/27/2007 with mplayer build from 5/25/2007.
I'll just stick with 5/14 build for now ;)
yea curl is rather broken in that build. it's fixed in svn thou.
what's the adress to the svn?
Done a new xbmc svn compile today build 9182, and youtube still not playing any videos back ?
hmm.. okey that is odd. will have a look at that link. btw. a debug log would be nice.
the url posed above doesn't exist. so i'd need something else.
Yeh sorry here you go, seems to be a different error from last time, i dont get why it says opening dvd player just before the youtube path ?

because flv files are always played with dvdplayer, as mplayer used to have issues with it (and still has some)
ah ok well thanks for that, does the log highlight anything ?
ok just updated xbmc to revision 9187, and i thought it was cured, the first time i tried to play a youtube video it worked. So i tried another one and it's not playing videos again. The other thing i forgot to mention is when it fails you end up loosing sound, ie my navigation sounds are gone.
So its getting better :)
Also the log looks the same as the previous one
Ta.....

Yeah it was strange. I updated to the 5-27 build, but hadn't used the youtube script recently. When some friends came over I was kind of sad that it didn't work (and I had to swear to them that it did at some point).
In either case I updated to the T3CH 6-4-2007 build, and it still does not completely work. There are certain videos (namely this one from the front page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k66epna2Sss) that always worked no problem, but they are the minority. Usually after clicking a video it will not play, and the navigation sounds will not play. Clicking on another video will lock it up. Clicking the stop button on the remote will have it freeze for a period, before I assume the playback core can stop at which time the navigation sounds return. One time a video played and I tried to stop it, but it wouldn't for a time period and kept playing for a while before finally stopping. The UI was locked during that period too.
Kind of a shame since this was one of the more used scripts, at least on my xbox. It almost is like youtube is changing their site in some way, but those logs seem to say differently ... also youtube is in the process of converting their videos to H.264, specifically for the iTV and other apple products. Eventually making possible for XBMC to grab those files, rather than the flv ? Seems like it would be more beneficial in the end.
Is there any known combination of a xbmc version & youtube version that will make Youtube work ? i have tried about 5 different XBMC versions & 3 different Youtube 2 script versions, when i click to play a video it loads but does not play, & then i lose sound within the menu navigation for about a minute.

I think at this point it can almost be assumed that the script is broken due to something changing on youtube's end. Gonna need some tweaking.

With latest T3CH build from the 17th the video plays but apparently at 2x or 4x speed...Pretty hilarious and completely unrecognizable.
Two steps forward and one step back.

im using techs build 17/6 and youtube 2 script. the videos play in double speed but the videos i saved onto my hard drive from the previous youtube script also play at double speed. If i press white button and select them to play with mplayer, it does it without a problem. Is there any way to make .flv files open with mplayer by default?

Edit the default.py script by replacing
self.player = xbmc.Player(xbmc.PLAYER_CORE_DVDPLAYER)
with
self.player = xbmc.Player(xbmc.PLAYER_CORE_MPLAYER)
and Voila! You're Youtubing again at normal human speed and not freaky DVDplayer speed.
I guess somebody should write a bug for this ;)
~ Enjoy
p.s. If anybody knows how to update the file on xbmcscripts please do so for this simple edit

I believe its an existing feature request. Would be nice to toggle from the system properties...However some scripts (like YouTube2) specifically use playback from the DVDPlayer.
dvdplayer have fixed in svn.

I what snapshot is the DVD player fixed and in what way? will the DVDplayer in YouTube2 script work again, so can I change the script to "original" settings?

It is available now in SVN. Check it out and build!
Or wait for the next build from the 'usual' sources.
Just re-download the YouTube2 script from xbmcscripts site with the script or do it from the site.
(What! You don't make a backup of hacked/modified scripts?)

YouTube playback using unmodified YouTube2 script is working once again with latest build from 2007-06-25.

I'm not sure new which player YouTube Uses, but i tested it with 25-06-2007 release via DVDplayer and it does not buffer with the right way.
I changed the player to MPLAYER and voila. buffering works and streams played just fine.
